Greek Myth: Zeus Wants Me to Be His/Her (XXXX)?????

Chapter 65: Chapter 65: I Shall Crown Myself

Deep within the fractured pit of the earth, Poseidon's condition was far from good.

Having her bones crushed by Typhon's unexpected assault was the least of her worries. The chaotic, untamed force rampaging inside her had left her unable to move for the foreseeable future.

She heard hurried footsteps approaching. With great effort, Poseidon lifted her head.

That face... it seemed familiar. Wasn't this one of the sea goddesses she'd seen on Naxos Island?

Ah, yes, her. Poseidon had actually taken quite a liking to her.

"Sea King Poseidon, am I right?"

Amphitrite stood at the edge of the pit, looking down at the battered Poseidon, her breath slowly steadying.

"The situation is dire, so let me apologize in advance."

"And now, I'm going to take half of your divine authority."

What?

Poseidon froze, bewildered, watching as Amphitrite's hand reached toward her.

"Wait, what are you doing?!"

Divine authority wasn't something that could just be taken at will.

And from a decorative goddess like her? Impossible.

A soft tearing sound echoed.

Amphitrite's hand passed through Poseidon's form, and the authority of the Sea split apart under her touch.

No, that wasn't right. It wasn't that Amphitrite took it by force. The divine authority of the Sea had willingly accepted her, disregarding Poseidon's own will entirely.

"I knew this would happen," Amphitrite murmured.

Before Poseidon's shocked, uncomprehending gaze, Amphitrite's presence swelled as her power surged higher and higher.

She was, after all, the destined Queen of the Sea. Once she chose to embrace that divine role, the Sea would never reject her.

It had been said before: a god's strength came from their divine nature, divine role, and divine power.

Divine nature was their innate talent, like a character's base stats and growth potential in a game.

Divine role determined the powers they commanded. Together, these shaped their divine strength.

Amphitrite, chosen by Oceanus as the future Queen of the Sea, had a divine nature beyond question.

Yet she'd had no divine role, no authority over even the smallest wave or stream.

Perhaps because, in Oceanus's eyes, she was always meant to inherit the vast, composite authority of the Sea.

Of course, things hadn't quite gone as planned.

Amphitrite hadn't become Queen of the Sea through marriage to Poseidon, as expected.

Instead, she skipped straight to seizing the crown, knocking Poseidon down and claiming the throne herself.

That still counted as Queen of the Sea, didn't it?

Poseidon quickly realized what had happened.

So this was her true destiny as Sea Queen, a role that had been waiting for her all along.

If not for Eros's meddling, Poseidon might have gone after her at Naxos Island already.

Had Eros broken fate? Or not?

The Sea Queen had risen, yet Poseidon herself seemed irrelevant to that process. Even the dominion over the sea might be slipping from her grasp.

Not that she could do anything about it now. All she could do was lie there, powerless.

"No matter. I'll take that authority back later."

With that, Poseidon shut her eyes.

Though by then, Amphitrite probably wasn't even listening anymore.

The surging divine power threatened to tear her apart. She could only focus all her strength on adapting to and controlling it.

A column of azure power shot skyward, drawing even Typhon's attention.

"Hey! Dumbass!"

As Typhon began to turn, curious about the disturbance, a crisp, taunting voice rang in its ears.

Hard not to hear, given it had a hundred heads and a hundred pairs of ears.

Eros, full of vigor, raised a middle finger at it. Behind him stood Hera, looking like she wanted no part of whatever he was doing.

"Hey Typhon! What's your mom's maiden name?"

No concern at all for whether this would offend a certain Earth Mother, Eros went all in.

The words were nonsense to Typhon, but the insult came through loud and clear.

Fury burned through the monster. Typhon forgot all about the other distraction.

Since its birth, no opponent had ever dared taunt it. No one had ever treated it this way.

And what did Poseidon matter? She'd already been swatted aside.

Typhon spun toward Eros, its throats spewing fire laced with sulfur and molten rock, aiming to turn the area into a blazing hell.

"Hold that shield steady. Leave the dodging to me," Eros told Hera.

"We can't take a single hit from this thing."

"I know that, but do we really have to do this?"

Hera braced Aegis's shield, her expression dark.

Their backs pressed together, Eros's magnetic force kept them tightly joined as if he were carrying her.

"I had no choice. You have to wield the shield. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to keep up."

Honestly, Eros had wanted to carry her outright, but she'd refused. This was the most contact she would allow.

Aegis was powerful, but it couldn't block Typhon forever.

Every attack they could dodge meant one less the shield had to endure.

And beyond that, all they could do was trust in Amphitrite.

The will to survive, the passion of trust, the tension of danger, it all made Eros feel more alive than ever, despite his broken body.

As he drew Typhon's full attention, the swell of divine energy began to ebb.

Amphitrite had finally mastered her new self.

Every tide, every creature of the sea, they were part of her now.

The sea's currents were her breath, its vastness an extension of her being.

But when she reached out, something cut her off. Darkness smothered everything, sealing them in.

No longer lost in the rush of power, she focused on breaking through that barrier.

If she could tear it apart, she could call out to Zeus or to Oceanus.

Sea power gathered in her hands, winds and waves roaring to life.

She squeezed every ounce of her fresh strength, pushing herself to the limit.

Blue purple scales shimmered on her skin as rippling divine energy took the shape of a spear.

"O river encircling the world, flowing cosmos, my great mother and father, lend me your aid."

A titan's shadow loomed behind her, gripping the spear of divine power.

With primal force, the titan hurled the spear.

The crushing clouds, thick as mountains, blocking out all light, were pierced.

The pure power of the Sea exploded across the sky, sweeping the gloom away, revealing clear blue in its place.

"We did it!"

Amphitrite's triumphant cry rang out as exhaustion overtook her, sending her collapsing backward.

The titan's phantom arms caught her gently and sank into the sea's embrace.
