GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2171: Disrespectful Peasant.

He had just lost a brother, so Sir Bushwick was more angry about this loss than the fact that the rank 3 traveler managed to escape.

But he didn't make a fuss about either one. He just sighed and said, "Let's pack up the loot and leave this ugly place."

Black Knife appeared beside the knight's ashes. His goal was the remnant of the mutant beside what used to be Sir Charles.

The remnant of the mutant was also a pile of ashes. But within this ash was a divine flesh, not three like Charles has. There was also a bloody heart that was still beating.

The single divine flesh is worth four normal divine flesh. It is a rank 4 divine flesh, so it is an epic divine flesh created by the fusion of every divine flesh from rank 1 to 3.

So this rank 4 divine flesh is already on its way to becoming a divine artifact. It is already half a divine artifact to the right person. But Black Knife didn't care for this half of a divine artifact. His goal was the bloody beating heart.

He explained to the others, "I only want this. That is apart from the payment for my information and other services."

Bushwick narrowed his eyes at the assassin. But he didn't do anything hostile. He only smiled and said, "Of course."

He would have kicked up a fuss if he knew what the bloody heart was. He suspected that it was a divine artifact, as that was the only thing other than divine flesh that could survive such an explosion. But he didn't know its function or value enough to fight the assassin for it.

Actually, it didn't matter that he didn't know the value of the bloody heart. If he were strong enough, he would have surely attacked the assassin and snatched the bloody heart or even killed him.

The reason why he hasn't done that is because he is nearly out of spiritual energy, while the assassin is powerful enough to match a rank 4 godclad. It is because he wasn't strong enough and was ignorant of the value of the divine artifact that he didn't become hostile with the assassin.

According to his initial plan, this would be the time he turns against the assassin. He would have done so without a divine artifact to compel him because he hated commoners and because this particular commoner is too dangerous to be left alone.

He also wants to know how Black Knife was able to acquire accurate information about the lamp bearers. Unfortunately, he can't use force to get to the bottom of that mystery.

He could only ask Black Knife with courtesy.

He started by saying, "Your information was critical to the success of our operation, and you fought bravely, so you must be rewarded handsomely. But there is something that I can't figure out. I hope you can enlighten me."

Black Knife said, "I'll try."

Bushwick's eye twitched, but he continued with his mission.

He asked nonchalantly, as if the matter wasn't a big deal, "I have tried many ways to acquire information about the lamp bearers, but I failed. But you succeeded. I wonder how you managed it."

Black Knife replied solemnly, "A magician never reveals his secrets."

That wasn't what Bushwick wanted to hear. So he stopped pretending to be cordial and said, "If you reveal this secret, I will reward you more. If you don't, then you might regret it someday."

Black Knife also wanted to reveal his source, but he didn't dare to risk it. So he said, "Let me see how much reward I will get for what I have done for you. If I see your sincerity, I might decide to reveal the secret."

Bushwick didn't like what Black Knife said at all. In fact, he felt disrespected, which made him angry.

His eyes glared at Black Knife as if he wanted to kill him. He would have jumped at Black Knife if the rank 3 warrior hadn't intervened.

The warrior reaches out to grab Bushwick with one hand. Then he shook his head.

His actions were silent and smooth. Yet, they managed to dissolve Bushwick's anger.

Then Black Knife spoke to ignite the anger by saying, "So when will I get paid for my work, and how much is it?"

Bushwick became angry again. He said, "I gave you my word. Did you think I was going to go back on my word? I am not some uncouth peasant like you. I was raised better."

He spoke with so much righteousness that it would seem that he had never considered and planned to double-cross Black Knife after using him.

Black Knife didn't care that Bushwick was indignant for being questioned. He insisted calmly, "You still haven't answered my question. All that you just said is not what I asked for. In fact, it sounds like something that someone who doesn't want to pay will say in order to delay paying."

Before Bushwick could delay by saying some more righteous words in anger, Black Knife threatened him by saying, "But I won't bicker with you because I know what I am doing, and I know what you're doing."

"I just want you to know that I didn't join you in fighting the lamp bearers without a plan to protect myself. I sincerely hope that you won't force me to use those plans, and I hope that you won't have me start killing every member of the Ivory family because you failed to pay me what you owe."

He said what he said because Legion instructed him to do so. It is not something he has the confidence to do on his own, even though he had always wanted to threaten a noble.

If he were working on his own, he wouldn't dare anger a nobleman for fear of retribution. But he has a boss, and his boss says that he shouldn't give a damn about the nobleman's honor. Then the least he can do is to take pleasure while doing it.
