Chapter 470 – Spooky Tunnel

Max looked ahead of him and found stairs. The arrow pointed there as he frowned.

"Stairs? I guess this is it."

Lily clung to his arm as they walked upstairs. Max supported her as he hummed. When they reached the middle part of the stairs, their vision turned dark and they arrived at another large room. It looked like a parking lot.

"Ah!" A voice came from Max's left. He shone his flashlight there and found Princess Peach hiding behind a pillar with MadLad and Amelia. "We're alive again!"

Flexy also stood near them, pointing at Max.

"Okay, dude. What the heck? You left your friend just like that?!" He complained with a loud voice.

Max laughed dryly.

"Sorry~" He apologized before walking towards the others. "But that was your fault, damn it! You raised the flag! Besides, we've advanced to the next stage, right?"

Flexy grumbled before sighing. "Yeah, it was my fault. I am truly sorry. I promise to buy you a drink later!" He said. Stay tuned for updates on empire

"Great." He nodded at his friend. "How about you guys? Everything good?"

"Nah, what do you mean good?" MadLad cut in as Amelia giggled. Princess Peach looked terrified as she shook her head.

"Nothing good happened. I hate ghosts! I swear to God, I will never play this kind of game again! That thing opened its mouth and chomped me whole!" The Princess' persona broke down as she raised her voice hysterically.

Max laughed when he heard it.

"T-That's scary." Lily added.

It was kind of strange. She was rarely scared. Even in front of scary monsters or cockroaches, she didn't hesitate to fight them upfront. But just a single ghost managed to terrify her to this point.

Max sighed as he looked around while everyone tried to recover from encountering the first ghost. The place they teleported to was a long tunnel with flickering lights in the distance. The walls were made of concrete with pipes attached to it.

There was also a strange sound of water dripping somewhere.

Max checked his flashlight. It was now at 62%. He turned it off because the room was bright. He looked at the others and found out something bad.

"Where is your flashlight?"

The others just realized it as they gasped. Without their flashlight, they couldn't go to the dark. Fortunately, that apparently wasn't a problem.

"Look here." Amelia pointed at the wall beside her.

There, a table with eight flashlights and some bottled liquid could be seen. Everyone approached it and each took a flashlight with them. They also took the liquid, which said 'Energy Drink' on it.

While holding the items, he noticed a window appeared in front of him. It was separated into four sections, with words 'Inventory' written above.

Curious, he tried to put his full flashlight inside and it disappeared. One of the box was filled with a flashlight image. It was truly an inventory.

"It seems we can store items inside our inventory." Max informed as everyone nodded.

Lily wasn't as scared as before and stood alone. She put her flashlight and the energy drink into her inventory. The rest of the flashlight and energy drink was given to Flexy and MadLad. They both brought two energy drinks and a flashlight inside their inventory.

After everyone finished organizing their inventory, and held a flashlight, they proceeded to finish this stage. Just like before, there was a drawing that gave them clue about the danger in this place.

Max read the clue below it.

"They only moves when you shine a light?" He squinted his eyes. "Well, it seems we have to proceed in the dark."

The monster image was also drawn with ink. It looked like a person with a neck stretched out with a round face. Max frowned when he saw it.

This game sure loved to torture the player's heart. As the light in the distance turned on at once, the creature drawn on the wall could be seen clearly. Everyone jumped and screamed.

It looked terrifying with its neck elongated and its round face with two vertical slits as eyes. The white clothing it wore was torn apart while blood dripped from its mouth. Its neck was bent as well, giving it a horrifying appearance.

— GOD! What is that

— Holy shiet! I jumped from my chair

— That's scary! Run run run!

— Damn! That thing is walking toward them.

A second later, the light was off and the creature disappeared.

"Run!"

No one knew who shouted, but their bodies moved at once. Max, being the fastest, ran first through the tunnel. He was closely followed by Lily and MadLad. Amelia and Princess Peach were the slowest among them, but Flexy made sure to stick with them.

No one dared to turn their flashlight on. The only guide they had was the red light at the end of the tunnel.

Just as they passed by the place where the creature appeared earlier, the light flickered on. The creature appeared behind them once again as it roared.

Max felt chill running through his body as he ran faster. Everyone screamed in fear as they dashed forward.

The light flickered off again, but they didn't stop moving. They ran and ran as fast as they could until...

"Go back?"

Max widened his eyes when he read the signboard there.

'Go back.'

They were standing at a fork now. Two tunnels, one to the right and one to the left. Both of them were dark, but there was a small light at the end of the left tunnel. Everyone stopped for a few seconds.

"What the heck? Why are there two ways?" Flexy asked, confused.

"It says go back, but go where? Fuck! Did we pass the exit?" MadLad cursed.

Gripped by fear of an unknown creature that might kill them, Amelia spoke up.

"I-I don't think we missed the exit! Otherwise, that sign won't be here, right? Maybe we need to go back to the room we first spawned into."

"No, that will mean we will come back. Our goal is to escape this place." Flexy countered. "Let's go this way then."

"No! We need to go back!" Princess Peach opposed.

Max listened to everyone's opinion before turning to Lily.

"What do you think?"

"We should split again." She answered, "The most dangerous one is the one who goes back. L-Let's take that path."

"Hey, we have no time to speak! That creature is near us already!" MadLad pointed behind them.

While they were talking, the light was still flickering, allowing the creature to move while they stopped. It had been a few seconds, and now the monster almost caught up to them.

With a low growl that could be heard everytime the light was turned on, the creature was getting closer to them. Its elongated neck stretched forward, revealing its sharp teeth.

Max gulped as he looked at the tunnel. Splitting into three teams was their best choice right now.

"Okay! Let's split! Peach, Lily, and Flexy, you go to the right tunnel. Amelia and MadLad to the left. Fuck this, I will take care of the monster. Take all my items now." He handed his spare flashlight to Lily and took out his energy drink.

Based on the description, drinking it would allow him to run faster for a few seconds. Now was the perfect time to use it.

"Breeze-" Lily wanted to refuse, but Max interrupted her.

"I will catch up to you guys soon. Don't worry. Just find the exit!"

With that, he broke into a run when the light disappeared.

— Wohoo, a real man! He sacrificed himself for the others!

— Run! Run! Run Breeze!

— I feel like watching a horror movie lolol

— We will miss you Breeze :(

Max ignored the chat as he focused on running. He drank the energy drink he took out earlier and felt his legs become lighter. At that moment, the light was turned on.

It was probably just a coincidence. But the monster was right next to him when it happened. Its face was really close to his, making all the details clear.

"Ssshhhh!"

"Aaah!"

It growled as Max screamed. Not even he had the protection against horror or a jumpscare. Especially one that he had never expected before and appeared right in front of him.

He quickly dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the monster's attack.

Max ran with everything he got. His energy drink effect still lasted, allowing him to move faster than ever. He felt like flying through the air as he ran past the tunnel.

However, he felt something strange and turned around. The light was turned off for a few seconds. And then, it turned back on immediately.

It was at that moment that he realized it. The creature didn't chase after him.

"Why?!" He stopped and turned around.

For some reason, the creature went to the right, where 3 people went to as if it chased the group with most people.

Max widened his eyes.

"Lily!"
