Chapter 28: Foreign Knight

There was nothing in the big room except straw mats, so after Ian asked Roll to pile most of the straw mats into the corner, he went outside and brought in a table and three stools.

The environment here was a bit unpleasant, and the smell inside even made Ian wonder if the straw mats here had never been replaced.

But even if they hadn't been changed, it was normal. This room was originally provided to farmers who traveled to and from nearby villages and castles. It only cost one copper cent a night, and the charge was less than one-eighth of a normal single room. It was basically equivalent to free lodging, and people who received free lodging usually had a high level of tolerance.

After all, if you had money, you'd live in a single room.

Of course, Ian didn't choose such a large room to save money; he simply felt that it would be safer to live in the same room with two knights.

What he didn't want to admit was that the shadow of the previous battles and massacres in the salt mines had not dissipated.

After they arranged everything, Martha, the proprietress, also came to the door of Ian's room.

"Sir, your food is ready." Her voice sounded quite sleepy, and Ian guessed that she was quite annoyed at being pulled up to cook in the middle of the night.

"Come in," Ian responded. He didn't care whether Martha had any complaints. He only cared about Martha's cooking skills, which were praised by Catelyn Tully in the original book, and the ale praised by Tyrion Lannister in the tavern.

After all, the day's journey had already made him exhausted and hungry.

After getting Ian's permission, Martha and the two maids opened the door of this large room.

Soon, a meal consisting of whole wheat bread, potato bacon, onion beef soup, roast lamb, roast quail, and ale was delivered to Ian's table.

Ian did not devour the food in a hurry, but looked at the landlady Martha, who remained in the room without exiting.

"Several lords..."

"We don't need any other services. Thank you. You can go and have a rest," Ian probably knew what she wanted to ask, so he dismissed her first.

But Martha shook her head quickly: "I didn't want to ask about this. I'm sorry, sir."

"Relax and speak slowly." Ian put down the fork in his hand and looked at Martha.

"Thank you, my lord," Martha nodded quickly and adjusted her mood. "You are knights of the Lannister family, right?"

"Yes," Ian admitted directly. Anyway, he had already dealt with everyone in the Kammer Mercenary Team, so he did not intend to give up this disguise for the time being. Therefore, he did not hide his heraldic sword.

The proprietress probably asked this question after seeing the lion head on Ian's sword.

When Martha received Ian's affirmative answer, she suddenly beamed, showing her teeth stained red from chewing tobacco for many years: "So you are coming from King's Landing?"

"How did you come to that conclusion?" Ian asked as he tore a leg off the roasted quail and ate it.

"Hehe, I have opened a shop here for so many years, and I have basically seen all the knights from the Seven Kingdoms." Martha pointed at Roll, "The black armor on this knight has complicated patterns. This is the style only found in King's Landing or Highgarden, and you are a knight of the Lannister family, and King's Landing is half Lannister, so I guess you are from King's Landing."

"Yes, you guessed it right. I am Ser Lucien Lannister, and they are my subordinates," Ian raised his eyebrows, continued to stuff food into his mouth, and took another big mouthful of soup. "So, do you have any business with us?"

"Oh, that's right, if you're not in a hurry..."

"It's a coincidence that we are relatively free during this time," Ian nodded directly, his intuition telling him that Martha's words would trigger a task.

It just so happened that he wanted to conduct some tests on the triggering mechanism of optional tasks.

After all, according to the organizers, they would not interfere in any way after the game was launched. This meant that the so-called triggering tasks were most likely to be automatically generated by the system according to a certain preset mechanism when the aborigines asked the players for help.

In this real world, if the mechanism of task triggering was fixed, then Ian, as a former game planner, could responsibly say that as long as it was done properly, bugs would definitely be encountered.

Of course, that could only be considered after he tested the complete trigger mechanism.

What he wanted to test now was just the simplest question—whether the task would be triggered as long as the player was asked for help by the indigenous people.

"So," Ian continued, "How can I help you?"

"That's right, Ser Lucien, a group of bandits have appeared nearby recently. They robbed houses and committed all kinds of crimes. Since their lair is near the former White Wall City, we call them the 'Ghosts of White Wall City,'" After getting Ian's approval, Martha said.

"The Ghost of White Wall City." Ian repeated Martha's words and searched for relevant information in his memory, but unfortunately, he could not find any information about such a band of thieves, or even heard of such a name.

In other words, there was no mention of such a thing in the original work of Ice and Fire and its derivative works.

"Have you heard of it?"

"No, unheard of," Ian shook his head. "But since they are bandits, I think you want us to help destroy them, right?"

Wandering bandits, Ian chuckled inwardly. Which medieval game with mission function could omit such a mission to suppress bandits? This was simply the most traditional hydrology routine (crossed out).

"No," unexpectedly Martha denied this. "It's not me, in fact, it's Ser Wilder and the others."

"Them?"

"They are an alliance formed by the wealthy knights around here. They need help."

"You mean, in order to deal with the bandits you call, the wealthy knights nearby formed an alliance?" Ian was a little confused.

"No, this alliance has always existed, but they did gather this time to deal with the Ghosts of White Wall City."

"How many of them are there?"

"There are a total of seven wealthy knights including Ser Wilder, Ser Willi, and Ser Kahn, and of course, their attendants and guards."

This was completely beyond Ian's expectation. In his mind, since the original book didn't mention even a single word about the so-called "Ghosts of White Wall City," then this should be a group of little thieves with little strength.

He originally thought that Martha would directly give him a trigger mission, and then he could directly recruit a team of mercenaries on the spot to wipe out the opponent. However, he did not expect that in order to deal with this group of people, the local wealthy knights had actually formed an alliance.

"Since there are so many knights ready to deal with them, why are you looking for us?" Ian couldn't help but be speechless.

"It's like this. Ser Wilder is very worried that they don't have enough manpower, so he asked me to help him pay attention to the reliable foreign knights passing by here in the past few days. He hopes to get your help."

"A foreign knight?" Ian's eyes narrowed involuntarily.
