Chapter 18: What Brotherhood?

Once the bounty mission is completed, other players will be notified with a delay. Even if I steal his head, he won't know I'm a player.

And they definitely wouldn't dare to kill a Lannister easily, especially a Lannister who was doing a task for a big shot.

What's more, as a Lannister, after receiving a bounty of three thousand gold dragons, why should I worry about being unable to instigate these mercenaries?

"Brotherhood!" The moment Ian conceived an excuse in his mind, he was filled with malevolence and daring. He plunged the dagger through Harui's throat and then thrust it into the prisoner's chest.

Harui's eyes widened in sudden shock as he stared at Ian. The mercenaries around him were also in a state of confusion, unsure of Ian's intentions.

The sound of "mission complete" echoing in his mind brought Ian back from the madness of that moment. He couldn't believe he had actually done it.

At the same time, he found that the tight string in his heart finally relaxed.

It turns out that I'm not afraid of killing, but simply afraid of death.

Ian raised his slightly trembling arm and wiped the blood splattered on his face. The hot temperature and rich, metallic smell made his stomach churn.

It was the smell of rust, the smell of blood.

But he had to suppress the urge to gag, because he knew his performance wasn't over yet.

Ian knew in his heart that only the victor could return alive. The game's mechanics dictated that he wasn't qualified to feign nobility, and the relentless pace of the mission didn't leave him enough time for introspection or transformation.

From the moment he traveled to this world, he was no longer Xia Ze, but Ian, and he could only be Ian.

Ian pulled his sword from the corpse leaning against him. He looked around at the people with scarlet eyes, then pushed the corpse forward and suddenly slashed at its neck with his sword. Unfortunately, the sword only sank a few centimeters into its shoulder blade; he was unable to cut off its head as he wished.

"Ser, what are you doing?" Harui asked, barely suppressing the anger in his heart.

"Members of the Brotherhood Without Banners!" Ian said, his voice laced with endless hatred. "If it weren't for these bastards, I wouldn't be an illegitimate child now!"

Ian turned to the mercenaries beside Harui and growled: "My father's original wife is dead! If they hadn't attacked my father and seriously injured him, my father would have married my mother long ago, and I would have been an upright Lannister! Not the despicable Hisham!"

The mercenaries retreated, startled by Ian's outburst. Who would unnecessarily provoke a mad Lannister?

And now there was clearly no need for them to do so. After all, their employer, Harui, had hired them simply to kill this enemy who threatened him. Now, someone else, who also bore a grudge against this person, had killed him first. This had no impact on their agreement at all, right?

Their employer himself had been reluctant to take action anyway, hadn't he?

"Brotherhood Without Banners?!" Harui's expression instantly turned ferocious, and he roared loudly, "Kill him! Kill him!"

"Catch him, and I will double the commission for your team!" Harui roared, wildly waving the dagger in his hand. It was clear that if his average attribute points weren't only five, at this moment, he wished he could rush up and kill Ian himself.

Ian was shocked. How could it be possible? How could he be so decisive? I'm a damn Lannister! He didn't hesitate to kill me?

This absurd order confused the surrounding mercenaries, and they all looked at the same person.

Looking at the scene in front of him, Ian suddenly realized he had forgotten that the Traveling Merchant profession started with a hundred gold dragons! Unlike me, who can only look for mercenaries individually, the traveling merchant has enough funds to directly ask his servants to hire an entire mercenary team!

According to the characteristics of players appearing in this world out of thin air, he only needs to confirm with the mercenary captain that no new members have joined their team recently to eliminate the risk of players in the mercenary team!

"Madman! Do you want to offend the Lannister family?" Ian looked at the mercenaries around him, forcing himself to calm down. "Kill me, and the Lannister family will hunt you to the ends of the earth. No matter where you're hiding, you will all be found out and crushed into ashes! A Lannister always pays his debts, whether it's kindness or hatred. The Reynes of Castamere are the best proof!"

(PS: House Reyne was once the second richest and most powerful family in the West. They were exterminated by Tywin Lannister because they rebelled against House Lannister and their home castle, Castamere, was destroyed. The song "The Rains of Castamere" tells the story of House Lannister's ruthless suppression of the rebellion.)

"Damn you, Lannister! You're really good at making things up! Good acting, boy. If I hadn't known that the Brotherhood Without Banners was an organization established by Lord Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr, sent by Eddard Stark to hunt down the Mountain after he plundered the Riverlands, I might have been deceived by you!" Harui glared at Ian and sneered. He simply wanted to torture and flay the guy who had fooled him.

"This guy isn't an illegitimate son of the Lannister family at all; he's a liar! Kill him! Carmel, I order you, kill him!" Harui commanded the mercenary captain again.

Worri! How could I forget this? This was definitely planned by Gou! Who told it to start with Robert going north and have a Brotherhood Hunter as the starting profession! Otherwise, I would never remember it wrong!

Ian's heart suddenly sank to rock bottom. At this moment, there were fifteen mercenaries around Harui, one-third of whom were cavalry. There was no possibility of him escaping unscathed.

To say too much is bound to make mistakes. I thought I had studied A Song of Ice and Fire for so many years, but I didn't expect that I stumbled upon a small mistake in the timeline. Wait... Timeline?!

"Absurd!" Ian suddenly laughed loudly, hoping to cover up his nervousness with laughter. "What are you talking about? The Mountain plundered the Riverlands? When did that happen? Ser Gregor has a bad reputation, but when I left Casterly Rock, he was still staying with the Lord! So please don't accuse my vassals blindly!"

The mercenaries burst into laughter.

"And our Lord Stark is still in his barren Winterfell! When did things in the Riverlands come under his control again? Are you hallucinating something?" Ian continued to mock.

"I'm not, I mean..." Harui didn't know how to explain for a moment. He hadn't expected that this fake illegitimate child would actually seize his own flaw in the same way.

Misremembering the timeline was a fatal mistake for players, but it couldn't be a reason to convince these mercenaries, because to the mercenaries, the 'future things' that players talked about were tantamount to crazy talk.

How could Harui explain to the mercenaries? Was it possible to tell them that you are just a group of indigenous people and we are the chosen ones who know the future?
