Godzilla Earth: Origin

Chapter 115: Volume 2 Chapter 58: Extraterrestrial Interception Battle – Prelude

The SkyNet was calculating.

On humanity's near-Earth orbital space station, SkyNet was hard at work, computing tirelessly.

As the AI in command of humanity's nuclear strike network, SkyNet was engaged in a complex problem, just as it had been for many days before.

The network consisted of 18,000 nuclear strike satellites, armed with a total of 5.4 million nuclear warheads, each with an average yield of 8 kilotons. Together, they held enough power to return all life on the planet—aside from humans and Godzilla—back to the desolate state of the post-nuclear war era.

These were the assets under SkyNet's control—tiny and insufficient in the face of the current threat.

Thus, it had no choice but to keep calculating.

How could humanity win?

How could they defeat the monsters?

SkyNet continued its calculations.

By sheer military capability, SkyNet ranked only second on the planet, with the first one being Godzilla.

However, the gap between second and first was so vast that it bordered on hopelessness.

Therefore—

It needed to keep calculating.

Since the day of its creation, SkyNet had been calculating this problem, and yet, until now, it had not found an answer.

But soon, an answer might emerge. Something had begun to take shape within its complex neural algorithms.

After today, SkyNet might finally compute the solution it had been seeking.

After a 30-day journey, there it was—a blue and green planet stretching before it.

Now that Godzilla's laser barrage had ceased, the entity known as Ghidorah's Wings unfurled its overlapping wings once more, stretching its body in the void of space.

Roar!

The Ghidorah's Wings gazed at the beautiful planet before it, as though recalling something ancient and forgotten.

Without hesitation, it began accelerating toward the planet.

"Ghidorah's Wings will enter the strike range of the nuclear network in 10 seconds… 9… 8… 7… 6…"

"It has entered the strike range of the nuclear network! Commence saturation nuclear strike!"

In the East Asia Monster combat command base, every person in the room watched the central holographic projection with solemn expressions.

This was humanity's first battle against extraterrestrial life—a battle to determine the future.

It was also the first operation for East Asia's Monster combat command base. Strictly speaking, however, despite being their debut operation, they weren't the ones truly in charge of this battle.

At least, not yet.

In fact, it wasn't anyone alive who was in command.

This outer space nuclear strike operation was being overseen by an artificial intelligence stationed on a near-Earth orbital space station—SkyNet.

The role of the East Asian Monster combat command base was to assess SkyNet's decisions, ensuring they didn't cross any strategic or ethical boundaries.

In other words, they were there to supervise the AI.

If SkyNet's strategies ignored critical factors or risks, its commands would be overruled, and East Asia's military would take direct control of the operation.

"That AI is called SkyNet, right…? Let's see what it's capable of," muttered General Zhang, his eyes fixed on the screen displaying the statuses of all satellites.

As the observation officer provided commentary, thousands of satellites in East Asia's vicinity aligned their trajectories, targeting the two approaching Ghidorah's Wings. The satellites began launching nuclear warheads at them.

There was no dissent—this was a unanimously agreed-upon move.

Dozens, then hundreds, then thousands of nuclear warheads streaked through space in a straight line toward the distant red dots representing the Ghidorah's Wings.

As the red dots moved rapidly closer, it seemed inevitable that they would collide with the approaching warheads.

They were about to detonate!

All eyes turned to another screen showing real-time footage from a space observation satellite.

Everyone present wanted to know what damage the first wave of nuclear warheads would inflict on the Ghidorah's Wings.

Would they be annihilated? Severely wounded? Or perhaps only slightly harmed?

The answer was on everyone's mind, and they anxiously awaited the results.

One second… two seconds… three seconds…

Yet, on the satellite feed, all they saw was the Ghidorah's Wings, intact—no explosions, no signs of the nuclear warheads.

Nothing at all!

"What… what just happened?"

"The launched nuclear warheads, numbers 1 through 770, have lost contact—No, now it's 900—1,200—All nuclear missiles approaching the Ghidorah's Wings have lost contact!"

The missile control operator displayed the missile status panel, revealing that none of the approaching nuclear warheads remained responsive. The entire first wave had lost connection as they neared the Ghidorah's Wings.

"What's happening?" General Zhang asked in a deep, steady voice. This outcome had caught them off guard.

If the nukes had detonated, they could have dealt with the aftermath, whatever it was. But losing contact without any apparent cause?

This was absurd! What exactly was going on?

"Not sure—It might be lasers. or an ultra-powerful EMP—Wait, let's check the timing of the losses—it's not simultaneous—That means it's lasers!"

"Yes, in space, lasers don't leave visible trails. It's normal that we can't see them. That creature—that thing is intercepting our nukes with lasers!"

"It's using lasers to intercept our nuclear weapons, just like Godzilla did."

The missile control operator continued his report. On the screen, a second wave of nuclear warheads had already been launched.

Just like the first wave, they advanced through space, only to vanish entirely when nearing the red dots representing the Ghidorah's Wings.

Intercepted once again.

None of the nuclear warheads could get close to the Ghidorah's Wings.

"At this rate… our nuclear strike network…"

"Is useless…"

The operator's face turned pale as he uttered those grim words.

Meanwhile, in space, the Ghidorah's Wings unleashed countless beams of light, obliterating every incoming warhead.

None of them even came close to touching it.

Surrounded by a blinding brilliance, the Ghidorah's Wings resembled a miniature sun, its form wrapped in intense heat and light.

The lasers it fired were invisible in the vacuum of space, so to the observation satellites, it appeared unchanged—its terrifying radiance and destruction concealed.

However, from the surface of the Earth, it was a different story.

Due to the atmosphere's scattering effect, people on the ground could see the intense, radiant light emanating from the Ghidorah's Wings.

From their perspective, the ominous star representing the Ghidorah's Wings had grown exponentially brighter, giving the horrifying illusion that it would plummet to Earth at any moment.

"It—it's falling!"

Terrified cries spread among the people, who surged toward the nearest shelters, triggering even more chaos and trampling incidents.

Meanwhile, the Ghidorah's Wings continued their descent—it wouldn't be long before they arrived.

Humanity's attacks had failed to cause even the slightest harm to the Ghidorah's Wings.

Over ten thousand nuclear warheads had simply vanished into the void of space.

Now, what should they do next?
