Chapter 299: Chapter 299:  Baiting The Elite Part 8

While slowly trudging through the tropical woodland of the island, Kara quietly followed Arias. She suddenly turned her attention toward the sky, narrowing her gaze.

Arias stopped walking and looked back at her. "Is something the matter?" he asked.

Kara slowly lowered her head to look at Arias before answering with a bit of attitude, "Nothing, just know that the League is here, so don't try anything funny."

Arias chuckled at the threat. "How hurtful, Kara. And here I was beginning to think you are starting to trust me."

"I'll never trust someone who kills people," she retorted, maintaining a frown as she watched Arias shake his head in disappointment before turning and continuing to walk at his casual pace. Kara glared at him but said nothing and continued to follow behind slowly.

At the same time, Batman arrived at the central building. It had a very lackluster design, being largely rectangular in shape with its metallic outward structure colored green and brown, blending greatly with the surrounding area.

Batman was running toward the building when suddenly, Alfred's voice echoed from the comms. "Sir, I detect the League should be arriving at your position now."

Batman hearing this, came to a stop and looked up in the sky, immediately spotting Superman's figure descending toward his location.

Since the incident involving Green Arrow, the League had truly been on high alert for anything even remotely suspicious, especially surrounding Arias. Given what Batman found between Green Arrow and him, they were now beginning to see suspect some of his roles in certain events.

Superman descended and immediately looked around. Using his x-ray vision, he soon spotted Arias and Kara's figures not too far away. This made him narrow his eyes before flying away in that direction.

Batman tried to stop him, "Superman wait-." however, it was pointless. Superman had already broken into a speedy flight, practically hurtling through the tropical woodland. The shockwaves his action caused were more than enough to alert Kara and Arias, who pretended to not even notice.

Seeing the speed with which Clark was coming, Kara, from an instinct, suddenly flew in front of Arias. In that moment, Superman arrived and came to a speedy halt, causing a huge gust of wind to erupt from him and blow around the surrounding area.

"You're protecting him now?" Superman accused, causing Kara to lower her head slightly as she hovered out of the way, saying, "I'm just keeping an eye on him."

"You say that like if I wanted to leave, you could stop me. Your cousin knows better than that," Arias retorted with a smile, glancing Superman's way and showing a slight smirk, which caused Kara to narrow her eyes.

Superman looked incredibly furious at the moment. He didn't deny Arias's comment, instead asking, "What do you have to do with Green Arrow's death?"

As Superman asked this, Arias maintained his calm, scoffing, "Unlike the Justice League, I don't abandon those that I consider assets."

"Assets?" Superman angrily questioned as he began hovering closer, driven more by emotion than logic in the moment. Arias, however, was completely unfazed and gave a light nod. "Assets, yes. He had his way, I had mine. But with him gone, that's one less asset."

Superman showed a look of disbelief. "You expect me to believe that Green Arrow was working for you and you're just somehow here by chance to avenge his death?"

Arias scoffed. "How can I avenge when I don't even know what killed him? My focus as of late has been toward Markovia and not the remnants of the HS group, which I made sure to thoroughly get rid of."

As Superman used his x-ray vision to see if Arias was lying, he couldn't discern anything from his body language. Before he could say anything else, a drone appeared from above and hovered near Superman. "Superman, head over here. I think you need to see this," it transmitted, then went back up into the air to continue monitoring.

After the drone's message, Superman gave Arias a final glare, making sure he knew he was still a suspect, then flew away. Kara remained hovering beside Arias, who turned to her and asked, "What are you still guarding me for? I already told you if I wanted to leave, you couldn't stop me. Besides, I'm now curious to see what they found."

Kara crossed her arms and continued to hover near Arias, accusing, "Probably the children you kidnapped."

Arias laughed at this accusation and retorted, "Oh no, I keep those in a highly secure facility on an isolated island in the middle of the Arctic."

Kara paused as she was about to ask a rather stupid question before she realized, "You're being sarcastic aren't you?"

"So you Kryptonians can pick up humor. You're so drunk on justice you'd think it's all you think about 24/7," Arias argued.

"I have a life outside being a superhero," Kara replied, showing some irritation.

Arias gave a mocking laugh, nodding slightly. "I'm sure, composed of one real friend who is notoriously introverted and another who is extremely extroverted, while constantly rejecting the proposals of some naively good guy who crushes on you to death. Quite the life to live."

Kara paused and showed an incredibly angry expression. "Have you been spying on me and reading my messages?"

Arias continued to walk and shook his head. "No, your social media presence is simply very telling. I'm sure your crush must sit down at night and reminisce about how you constantly post about only justice and countless charity links."

Arias smirked. "If you weren't kind enough to meet him sometimes, he would've probably assumed you're a Nigerian prince trying to scam him for his money."

Immediately after Arias said this, a tree was flung his way and narrowly missed him, colliding with another tree before toppling it down. T

his prompted Arias to pause and look behind him. Kara was seething with anger and embarrassment. Arias, however, only shrugged his shoulders as if he had done nothing. "Why is it that you women always get so angry when a man is honest?"
