God-Level Reset: System of the Forgotten King

Chapter 59: The Mirror Protocol

The throne room shuddered as the Spire recalibrated, folding in space around Kade and his doppelgänger like a breathing organism. The walls pulsed in unison with Kade's heartbeat—an eerie echo of synchronization.

He faced the mirror version of himself, who sat lazily upon the throne, legs crossed, eyes glowing with strands of violet code.

"You thought you were the only one chosen," the clone said with a grin. "But the System doesn't bet on a single horse. It builds contingencies. I'm what happens when you lose control."

Marei stood by the threshold, scanning the room with her lensfield visor. "That's not just a copy," she whispered. "It's an Ascendant Core—backed by Spire logic. It's a stabilized fork of your neural imprint."

Kade stepped forward. "Then I erase him. And the throne."

Mirror-Kade laughed. "You don't erase me. I am the part of you that won."

CATALYST WARNING: ASCENDANT PARADOX DETECTED.

Reality loop stability: 11% and dropping.

Kade's system flickered. Voices whispered from all the timelines he'd crossed. Forgotten versions of himself screamed warnings, cried, begged… and bled. It was all converging here.

"You still don't get it, do you?" the clone said, rising. "You've been pulling power from broken timelines, but every time you do, you unthread the seams of causality. Soon, there won't be anything left to save."

"I never asked for any of this."

"You didn't need to. You were designed to. The Catalyst chose you because you're willing to burn the world to change it. That's not heroism. That's entropy in a human shell."

Kade clenched his fists. The system inside him pulsed, resisting the loop.

Override Prompt Detected: MANUAL SYSTEM RESET?

Warning: Activation may destroy both entities.

Marei's voice came through the haze. "Kade. Listen to me. If you trigger a manual reset here, the Catalyst won't just choose between you two. It will choose… the outcome. And it may not be one either of you wants."

Silence hung like a blade.

The clone drew a sword of pure white light. "Only one of us leaves this throne room. That's the Protocol."

Kade breathed out. "Then let's break it."

The clash was blinding.

Steel and memory collided. Every strike shattered echoes of other timelines—ghostly images of Kade falling in battles never fought, bleeding in cities never built. Marei tried to intervene, but the energy field around the throne room wouldn't let her in.

And finally, when Kade's sword met its twin in the final arc, both shattered.

They stood, gasping, wounded, broken.

But it was Kade who reached out—not with rage, but understanding.

"I'm not trying to destroy you," he said, chest heaving. "I'm trying to accept that I can't fight myself forever."

The throne pulsed. A crack spread through its surface. The room began collapsing inward as the Spire registered an impossible choice:

Dual Ascendant Acceptance… confirmed.

New Pathway Created: Sovereign Divergence.

The clone smiled as his form began dissolving. "Good. That's the first decision worthy of a king."

The Spire shattered above them.

Kade grabbed Marei as the collapse consumed the upper floors, the two of them diving into a transline elevator shaft as alarms screamed across every system.

And far below, something else awoke—buried deep in the foundations of the Spire.

It wasn't a weapon.

It was a name.

A forbidden one.

And Kade had just unlocked the path to it.
