Gigas Core

Chapter 17: Adventurer Registration and Meet the guild master

After showering and eating, Rai took Erin to the adventurer's guild. He gave her some leather armor to wear, which was a bit too big for her, and it came with a helmet.

"Are you sure about this, big brother?" Erin asked, looking at the clothes as they walked.

"Hmm, we'll get you a smaller one later. For now, just wear this, it's convincing," Rai replied.

"Ugh... okay," Erin grumbled, still pouting, but she kept walking and holding Rai's hand.

They finally reached the adventurer's guild. Rai opened the door, and they went inside. The place was buzzing again. Adventurers and treasure hunters were still talking about the giant monster, Gigas, that had shown up two days ago, so nobody really noticed Rai and Erin come in. Rai walked straight to the reception counter where Trisha was. When she saw Rai and Erin approaching,

"Hey Rai, looking for another quest?" Trisha asked warmly.

"No, I'm here to register my little sister as an adventurer," Rai replied.

Trisha glanced at Erin, whose face was half-covered by the helmet. Then she leaned down, reached out, opened Erin's helmet, and took it off.

"See? This is much better, right?" Trisha said, holding Erin's helmet and smiling.

"Why did you even make me wear that helmet, big brother?" Erin protested.

"Sorry," Rai replied, rubbing the back of his head.

"How old are you, little sis?" Trisha asked.

"13," Erin said simply.

"Okay, you can register then. The minimum age for adventurers is 12. Please put your hand on this portable stone tablet," Trisha said, pushing a 7-inch tablet-shaped stone onto her desk.

Erin put her hand on it, and a red light appeared, making everyone in the room quiet as they turned to look at the receptionist. But when the light faded, the tablet read "no job." Trisha's face immediately changed, and she glanced at Rai standing next to Erin.

"You trying to get your sister killed, huh?" Trisha asked angrily.

"It's fine, I'm 'no job' too, you know," Rai said casually.

"Yeah, big sister, it's okay. Just register me, I'm strong!" Erin insisted, trying to convince Trisha.

"Hahahahaha!" The whole room burst out laughing at Erin's words. Adventurers shouted things like, "Don't register kiddo, you'll just die for nothing!" or "There are other jobs, like being my slave, hahahaha!" or "Little kid, don't act tough, you'll die quick!" Erin turned around, her face angry. Rai quickly put a hand on her shoulder and shook his head. Finally, Erin turned back to Trisha.

"Just register me, fast!" Erin yelled.

"Yeah, Trisha, just register her."

Rai, Erin, and Trisha turned to see who had just shouted. The room instantly went silent because it was Saber, walking down the stairs. He seemed to have come down because he heard the commotion. Saber walked behind the counter and stood next to Trisha.

"You're Rai, right?" Saber asked Rai.

"That's right. Are you the guild master?" Rai asked.

"Yes, my name's Sabertooth, but can call me Saber. As you can see, I'm a tiger beastman," Saber replied with a smile.

"You know me, Mr. Saber?" Rai asked.

"Yes, I just got to know you two days ago," Saber said firmly, looking at Rai.

The atmosphere became tense and heavy. Saber kept staring at Rai, who stared back just as intently. Suddenly, Trisha broke the silence.

"Um... so, should I just register Rai's sister, Guild Master?" Trisha asked.

"Ah, yes, just register her. I'm sure she'll be fine, just like her brother, even though they're 'no job'," Saber replied with a smile, but his gaze remained on Rai.

"Thank you, Mr. Saber," Rai said, still looking at Saber.

Trisha immediately took out her card and filled out the form. Then she placed the card on the form, and all the information from the form, along with the paper, was absorbed into the card. After that, Trisha handed the card to Erin, who took it with both hands. As soon as she got her card, Erin immediately looked at it, and her face instantly lit up. She turned to Rai.

"Big brother Rai, look! This is my adventurer card!" Erin said, proudly showing off her F-rank card.

"Nice! So, I guess we're all set here, right? (He turned to Saber) Excuse us, Guild Master," Rai said, putting his arm around Erin and turning to leave.

"Wait."

Saber put a hand on Rai's shoulder. Rai turned to look at Saber with his red eyes, and Saber immediately let go of his hand.

"Alright, we're leaving," Rai said.

"Hey, I want to talk to you. Come to my office," Saber said, not giving up.

Rai turned back, then he looked at Erin, who was still holding her card and looked at Rai, shrugging her shoulders.

"What do you want to talk about with an F-rank adventurer like me?" Rai asked.

"You want to get into the tower, don't you?" Saber asked.

Rai flinched, his face softening. Then he took a step forward to the counter and placed his hand on the desk.

"You're letting me into the tower?" Rai asked, suddenly enthusiastic.

"Before that, let me talk to you first," Saber replied.

"Alright. (He turned to Erin) Erin, wait here for a bit, okay?" Rai said.

"No, she can come along too," Saber blurted out.

"Is that okay?" Rai asked.

"It's fine. Let's go up, both of you," Saber replied.

Saber turned, then walked out from behind the counter and headed upstairs. Rai and Erin followed him. The adventurers and treasure hunters in the room watched Saber taking Rai and Erin upstairs with confused looks, as if asking, "What in the world is going on?" Once inside the guild master's office and seated on the sofa, Saber poured drinks for Rai and Erin. After that, he leaned back on his sofa, looking at Rai and Erin across from him.

"Alright, let's get straight to the point. I've heard about you, Rai. In a year, you've changed party three times, and all three party you were with, they all missing. Only Rafina came back, right?" Saber asked.

"So you want to talk to me about that?" Rai asked, immediately on guard.

"Relax, I don't want to know what happened to your party, but I want to know why someone 'no job' like you can always come back unharmed while your groups don't," Saber replied.

"I'm a coward and I always run first," Rai answered.

"Pfffft!" Erin, who was drinking her beverage, suddenly spit it out and looked at Rai with a confused face.

"Really, big brother? But you're strong!" Erin said innocently.

"Slap!" Rai slapped his forehead, glancing at Erin sitting next to him. "Hahahahaha!" Saber immediately burst out laughing.

"Okay, so why did you bring us here, sir?" Rai asked impatiently.

"Hahaha... sorry, it's fine. I believe your sister is right. I can tell strong people from weak ones just by touching them and in my opinion, your strength is incredible, maybe on par with the Gigas that appeared two days ago," Saber said, cutting straight to the chase.

"Huh... what do you mean, sir?" Rai asked, surprised.

Erin immediately went silent and continued drinking. She looked down and scooted closer to Rai next to her. Saber observed the change in Rai and Erin's facial expressions but then he smiled so that the two of them wouldn't be suspicious.

"Ah, no, I was just making a comparison. It doesn't mean anything. Can I ask why you want to enter the tower?" Saber asked, changing the subject.

Rai fell silent. He glanced at Erin, who didn't seem wanted to speak anymore. Then he sighed to calm himself before answering.

"I want to find someone," Rai said simply.

"Oh, who? Are the one you looking for is a treasure hunter?" Saber asked.

"I can't tell you," Rai replied.

"Hmm, okay, I don't need the details. But right now, the tower hasn't reopened yet. We're still waiting for news from the three regions surrounding this city. Please wait until the tower reopens," Saber said.

"So, you mean, you're allowing me and Erin into the tower?" Rai asked.

"Yes, but first, come to the guild arena tomorrow and prove to me that you're worthy of entering the tower by passing the test," Saber replied

Rai and Erin immediately looked at each other, then back at Saber in front of them.

"Alright, I'll be back tomorrow," Rai said.

"Good, I'll be waiting," Saber replied.
