Genshin Impact: The God Incarnate

Chapter 13: Chapter 013: Settling Refugees

"We pledge to follow the God of Geo!"

The humans kneeling on the ground loudly proclaimed their devotion to the God of Geo, Morax, gazing skyward as they did so.

Morax quickly counted the numbers—there were about two thousand people.

Bringing them back to Liyue during winter presented issues. Resources and housing seemed insufficient.

Yet, he couldn't just abandon them here.

If it came to it, he could turn to Vorthis for help in materializing some necessities to help them survive this harsh winter.

The humans from the God of Sandstorm's camp gathered their belongings, packed their food, and assembled together.

They followed Morax, the God of Geo, heading toward Liyue.

To ensure their safe arrival, Morax needed to personally escort them.

Otherwise, should they encounter wild beasts, these defenseless humans would merely serve as a feast.

In the blink of an eye, a day had passed.

In the Liyue territory, Vorthis still hadn't seen Morax return.

However, Vorthis wasn't at all worried about Morax being in danger.

After all, Morax represented the pinnacle of strength in all of Liyue. Unless several Gods united against him, it would be nearly impossible to deal with him.

But this wasn't a time of Archon War, and Morax's existence hadn't yet posed a significant threat to other Gods.

Without a shared sense of danger or goal, the Gods naturally wouldn't form alliances.

Vorthis speculated that Morax had most likely defeated the God of Sandstorm and was now escorting the humans from that territory to Liyue.

Humans traveled on two legs and needed to rest at night. Vorthis estimated it would take about a week for Morax to return to Liyue.

One week later.

Under Morax's leadership, over two thousand humans from the God of Sandstorm's territory arrived in Liyue.

But Liyue couldn't accommodate so many people.

Who would preemptively build such a surplus of houses for no reason?

No one, of course.

Faced with the challenge of settling these two thousand people, Morax initially planned to use his Geo elemental power to construct stone houses.

But such an approach would undoubtedly seem unfair to Liyue's original inhabitants.

Why should these newcomers receive stone houses personally built by their God while the original inhabitants lived in thatched huts?

This disparity would obviously spark discontent among the locals.

However, housing was essential to shield against the cold. Delaying any longer could lead to widespread illness among the newcomers.

In this era of undeveloped medicine, even a minor cold could be fatal.

"Morax? Why aren't you settling those humans and instead coming to me?" Vorthis asked as he eyed Morax.

Morax hesitated for three seconds before speaking.

"Settling two thousand humans is indeed a challenge. We don't even have enough houses for them to stay in."

"If they don't find shelter soon, most of them might succumb to the extreme cold this winter."

Vorthis quickly grasped Morax's intent.

"So, you want me to step in and help solve their housing issue?" Vorthis asked, looking at Morax.

Morax replied, "Well… if you're unwilling, I won't force you."

He understood that he was the one asking for Vorthis's help.

"Since they've joined Liyue, they are now Liyue's people. And aren't Liyue's people also my people? Am I the kind of God who would let my people sleep in the wilderness during winter?" Vorthis said with a grin.

Having chosen to be part of Liyue, Vorthis naturally assumed the responsibilities of a God.

That said, he mostly opted to slack off. He feared that if he worked too much, he'd end up like Morax—an overly serious and dull figure. To avoid such a fate, he adopted an early "slack-off" strategy.

This way, he could steer clear of becoming someone as mundane as Morax.

Makes sense, right?

After agreeing to Morax's request, Vorthis approached the two thousand humans.

At first, they thought Vorthis was just a handsome young man with no aura of a God.

It wasn't until white light began to emanate from Vorthis's fingertips—the mark of his materializing authority—that they realized the truth.

"Greetings, God!"

The crowd promptly knelt and worshipped Vorthis.

Vorthis had long grown accustomed to such displays.

He maintained an impassive expression, nodding faintly.

Next, he got to work. First, he envisioned in his mind a small thatched hut, enough to accommodate a family, with some insulation properties.

The first hut appeared before the crowd.

From there, the task became straightforward. Vorthis embarked on a journey of "copy-pasting" until there were enough huts to house all two thousand people.

The humans stared in awe as Vorthis conjured the huts seemingly out of thin air.

"This… this is the work of a God?!"

"Thank you, God, for your grace!"

"We will never forget the God's kindness!"

Some even shed tears. For the first time under the rule of the God of Sandstorm, they felt the care of a deity.

It turned out Gods didn't just bring sandstorms; they could also provide shelter.

This divine favor would be forever etched in their hearts.

…Wait, they realized something—they didn't even know this God's name!

By the time they noticed, Vorthis had already returned to Morax, maintaining his strict "no overtime" policy.

"Task completed flawlessly!"

Vorthis clapped his hands as he turned to Morax.

"So, Morax, don't you think you owe me something?" Vorthis asked, blinking expectantly at Morax.

Morax froze.

He wasn't sure what to offer.

Gratitude?

"How about sparring with me in swordsmanship?" Vorthis suggested.

He found wielding swords incredibly cool.

Whether practical or not, it was worth learning.

If he ever encountered a formidable foe, he could always resort to fireballs. If that didn't work, he'd just drop a nuke.

Nukes were so convenient. They weren't even elemental powers—just a collection of "ordinary" materials packed together to create massive destruction.

Although some of those materials didn't exist in Teyvat, Vorthis, being from Earth and wielding manifastation authority, could bring them to life.

Seems reasonable, doesn't it?
