Chapter 152: Chapter 152: Yae Miko's Investigation

Ritou, Kanjou Commission...

A woman named Yurika was buried in her work when she suddenly let out a tired groan and muttered to herself, "Why are there so many foreigners entering the country these past few days? Well, at least we can profit more from this..."

"Oh? Profit more from what? Care to share with me, little one~"

Just as Yurika was muttering to herself, a teasing voice reached her ears, sending a chill down her spine.

Yurika trembled as she looked up to see a pink-haired woman standing before her. The woman wore a bewitching smile, her fox ears twitching slightly, giving her the appearance of a stunning fox spirit. At this moment, she was looking at Yurika with great interest, her lips curled into a smirk.

Behind the fox spirit was Yurika's superior, the director of the Kanjou Commission. This middle-aged man, who usually carried himself with an air of arrogance, now followed behind the fox spirit with a look of fear and respect, completely devoid of his usual demeanor.

"L-Lady Yae..." Seeing that her subordinate had leaked information, the director's face turned pale. He wanted to say something to salvage the situation, but his fear left him stammering, unable to form a complete sentence.

"Enough," Yae Miko waved her hand dismissively. "The Kanjou Commission is under the jurisdiction of the Tenryou Commission, not the Grand Narukami Shrine. So, I won't meddle in your affairs. But you should be careful. If this ever reaches the Shogun's ears, well..."

Yae Miko didn't finish her sentence, but the implication was clear: I won't interfere, but that doesn't mean others won't. You're on your own.

"Yes! Lady Yae is absolutely right!" The director bowed repeatedly, nodding like a chicken pecking at grain.

"Good. Now leave. I need to have a little chat with this young lady."

At Yae Miko's gesture, the reluctant director had no choice but to retreat, leaving Yurika alone with the fox spirit.

"Lady Yae!" Seeing Yae Miko's gaze fall on her, Yurika sat up straight, her face tense as she greeted the shrine maiden.

"Hehe, no need to be nervous, little one. I heard you're in charge of processing all Liyue immigrants, correct?" Yae Miko sat down across from Yurika, a smile on her face as she asked.

"Yes, Lady Yae. How may I assist you?" Yurika's heart was pounding. Had she made a mistake and let in someone she shouldn't have?

"Don't worry. I just need you to check if a Liyue man named Yun Fan has registered here recently."

"Yun Fan?" Yurika was momentarily stunned. The image of the young man who had left a deep impression on her flashed through her mind. She quickly nodded. "Yes, Lady Yae. About three or four days ago, a Liyue merchant named Yun Fan did register here for temporary residency."

"Oh?" Yae Miko's eyes lit up. She hadn't expected to find a lead so quickly. "What does he look like? Tell me in detail."

"Yes, Lady Yae," Yurika nodded. "He's about six feet tall, with sharp eyebrows and bright eyes. He carries an indescribable air of nobility. He has silver hair and golden eyes, as deep as the night sky."

"Give me his records," Yae Miko said. Based on Yurika's description, she was almost certain this Liyue merchant was the Divine Sovereign—the "figure" she had seen in the Sacred Sakura's vision.

"Understood." Yurika stood up and headed to the archives. Yae Miko leaned back in her chair, crossing her legs. Her white cotton pants peeked out from under her robe, drawing attention.

After a while, Yurika returned with Yun Fan's records and placed them in front of Yae Miko. The shrine maiden glanced at the photo and, after confirming it matched her expectations, made a copy before leaving the Kanjou Commission.

"Phew, that's over. I need to be more careful in the future. I never expected the person Thoma brought in would catch Lady Yae's attention," Yurika sighed, preparing to return Yun Fan's original records to the archives. However, just then...

"Where is the director of the Kanjou Commission? Bring me all the records of Liyue immigrants with 'Yun' in their names!"

Hearing this, Yurika looked up to see several Tenryou Commission soldiers striding in. The leader was speaking to her superior, and upon closer inspection, he held an order from the Kanjou Commission's director.

"Yurika, I'll need you to make another trip," the director said apologetically. She had just helped him deal with Lady Yae, and now he was asking for her assistance again.

"Yes, Director," Yurika replied respectfully, though inwardly she was groaning. Ah, the life of a lowly employee.

"Wait." Just as Yurika was about to head to the archives, the lead soldier stopped her. Under her puzzled gaze, he walked over to her desk and picked up the file she hadn't yet put away.

"Hah!" The soldier's face twisted in anger as he recognized the person in the photo. It was the scoundrel who had kidnapped General Kujou Sara the previous night.

"As the Liyue saying goes, 'After searching far and wide, the answer was right under my nose!'" The adjutant clenched Yun Fan's file in his hand and led his men out of the Kanjou Commission.

Meanwhile, Yurika's mind was reeling. Why were the Tenryou Commission looking for him too? Just who had Thoma brought into the country?

Thinking this, Yurika cautiously asked her superior, "Director, why are the Tenryou Commission looking for this Yun Fan?"

"Well, I suppose it's fine to tell you. The warrant will be issued soon anyway. This Liyue merchant kidnapped General Kujou Sara of the Tenryou Commission."
