Chapter 5: chapter 5 Rites of Descension
Nicholas looks from one of the restaurants from the Yujing Terrace, thousands of Liyuean gathered in the Yiyan Temple to witness the RItes of Descension, their faces eager to witness the Geo Lord himself.
The Tianquan, Ningguang steps forward and makes sure the rite starts up in time and Liyue's deity shows up as promised. But as the clouds disperse, the crowds watch in horror as the lifeless body of their lord drops onto the offering table.
After inspecting the scene for a brief moment, Ningguang utters the unfathomable words: "Rex Lapis has been killed! Seal the exits!
However, just like the game, Lumine panics and tries to run away from the Milielith, Nicholas just sighs, If she just stayed there, she wouldn't have been suspected at all.
However he is dumbfounded when he sees Childe rush off to save her even when he told him not to. He wanted to get Lumine arrested then use his authority to get her out of the prison and make her even more debted to the Fatui.
He begins shaking his head at the plan failing however he knew this was going to happen.
After returning to the Northland bank he finds Lumine , Paimon and Childe there.
"Wow, miss Lumine and miss Paimon, back so soon. You guys missed me that much, huh" Nicholas says in a mocking tone.
Paimon just huffs and kicks her legs in the air mumbling about Nicholas being ugly while Lumine just sighs.
"Well, You guys sure got in a good mess, take this" Childe gives them one of the fake sigils.
"What's this ?" Lumine asks, holding the Sigil of Permission.
"A sigil of Permission, it should guarantee you safety to Adepti's abode, from there you can get their blessing and proof that you didn't kill Rex Lapis" Nicholas speaks up.
"But I didn't kill him though" Lumine says tinged with desperation.
"Well, the Qixing doesn't seem to think so. And the way you two panicked it made you two even more suspicious."
Lumine's lips twitched into a faint smile, though she still kept a sliver of distance in her gaze. "Thanks, I guess. But believing me doesn't make me any less wanted."
Nicholas gives a soft smile, " And if you don't want to go you can always join the fatui and get diplomatic immunity" She seems shocked,"Even for killing their Archon, what are they gonna do storm in?" He gives a genuine laugh
Lumine's mood lightens up a bit. Maybe he isn't that bad after all, She thinks

The soft sound of water hitting the rocks was the only noise by the quiet lake. Zanni was sitting next to Zhongli, holding a fishing rod and looking very different from his real self. His blond hair surrounded his face, and he wore plain clothes from Snezhnaya in an attempt to blend with people in Liyue.
"You wear your disguise well," Zhongli said, his voice low and calm. He cast his line into the lake with practiced ease. "But a disguise, no matter how skillful, cannot hide one's essence."
Zanni smiled a little. "And yet you let me sit here with you, fishing like I was just another tourist in Liyue."
"Maybe," Zhongli said, looking at the moving water. "Or maybe I like the company of an honest liar more than the fake truth told by others."
They were silent together then, and the wind blew gently through the trees. Zanni pulled in his line a little, feeling some struggle from a fish nibbling at the bait. Zhongli felt heavy with unspoken sorrow, a silent wish that Zanni, though experienced, could not wholly appreciate.
"You've lived a long time," Zanni said after a while, breaking the quiet. "I suppose you've earned the right to speak in riddles."
"Ten thousand years is not a number that can be measured in words. It is a weight, an ocean of memories that no mortal could bear. Even a god grows tired of eternity."
Zanni cast his line again."So, retirement," he said, a wry edge to his tone. "You think Liyue will be fine without you?"
Zhongli turned his gaze to Zanni, his expression inscrutable . "Do you?"
Zanni exhaled, considering his response carefully. "Liyue has grown strong under your guidance," he began. "Its people are resourceful, its traditions deeply rooted. They'll survive, I'm sure of that. But thriving? That might be harder without the steadying hand of the Geo Archon."
"And yet," Zhongli said softly, "they cannot grow if I don't step away. Relying too much leads to being stuck."
"True," Zanni agreed. "But letting go doesn't mean vanishing. It's wise to step back, but it's also wise to watch things from a distance. Think of it as a gentle landing. If Liyue struggles, a little push could save them from trouble."
Don't worry I will help cause more of it
"That's an interesting way to see things. Maybe you're not as much of a dishonest person as I believed."
Zanni smiles softly. "And you care more than you show. For a retired god, you seem very worried."
"Maybe," Zhongli replied, a slight smile appearing on his lips. "Even a tired heart can't completely let go of what it cares about."
The two of them went back to their silent fishing, the river keeping their unspoken truths at its bottom.
However, the next phase of his plan is just beginning. I wonder how will they handle it
