Chapter 289: 289. The Arrival of the King
"I have enough goods here that will definitely satisfy your appetite. You won't be leaving empty-handed!"
With his assurance, the businessmen awkwardly quieted down, rolled up their sleeves, adjusted their luxurious silk garments, and gradually regained their composed, almost dog-like restraint.
Looking at these people—who had just behaved like rabid dogs fighting over food but were now back to being civil—Jason Liu couldn't help rolling his eyes.
Sure enough, profit was still the ultimate motivator.
He had them line up and report the goods they needed one by one, while he was responsible for recording the orders.
Soon, all the orders were tallied.
These major merchants from the continent of Essos were no less extravagant than the ones from King's Landing last time.
200,000 gel pens: 2,000 gold dragons
1.2 million refills: 6,000 gold dragons
1 million sheets of A4 paper: 500 gold dragons
100,000 sheets of art paper: 500 gold dragons
300,000 pieces of soap: 3,000 gold dragons
1 million more pieces of soap: 5,000 gold dragons
50,000 toothbrushes: 500 gold dragons
50,000 tubes of toothpaste: 500 gold dragons
Next, Jason Liu showcased a luxury four-wheeled carriage and solar lighting equipment, which immediately astonished the merchants from across the Narrow Sea.
They bought out his entire inventory on the spot—79 large four-wheeled carriages and 74 small ones.
Then came the solar lighting equipment. These wealthy and powerful merchants from the free trade city-states ordered another 200 sets at 100 gold dragons each—totaling 20,000 gold dragons.
With just this one transaction, Jason Liu earned 168,000 gold dragons in a single stroke.
That was more than he had ever held in his hands!
Watching these rich merchants haul in box after box of gold coins, Jason Liu couldn't help the envy that flashed in his eyes.
Not all of the coins were gold dragons—some bore unique patterns and were minted by various free cities—but the gold content was nearly identical to Westeros's standard.
Jason instructed the store staff to verify the goods against the recorded orders and load them into the carts for each customer. Meanwhile, he had his guards carry several large boxes of gold into the warehouse and lock them securely in a heavy iron chest.
After a full day of work, everything was finally settled.
A few workers skilled in installing solar energy equipment were called back from the lumberyard to train the servants left behind by the merchants.
The merchants, having secured their goods, immediately rushed their carriages toward White Harbor, eager to transport their cargo across the Narrow Sea and start selling.
The servants who stayed behind to learn the installation process would ride out later and catch up with their respective caravans.
Seeing that the warehouse was running low on inventory, Jason Liu returned to modernworld, called OIiver, and instructed him to urgently restock pens, paper, and soap.
"Start with five million units of each!"
Oliver was stunned but quickly urged his buyers to contact the manufacturers immediately to ensure prompt delivery.
Five million bars of soap. Five million bars of soap!
The former owner of the soap factory, had no choice but to directly acquire several small soap factories of similar scale to expand production capacity...

A group of cavalrymen in gleaming armor, bearing banners with the crowned stag of House Baratheon, slowly advanced down the main road, clearing the way.
The hawkers in the Winterfell market town were so startled that they hurriedly packed up their wares and stepped aside in awe, giving space to the imposing soldiers clad in golden armor and helmets.
The lead column consisted of fifty golden-robed cavalrymen from the Red Keep, their helmets hiding everything but their eyes. They sat tall on powerful warhorses, their backs straight and proud, marching with practiced precision through the street.
Ahead of them, two Stark riders had already galloped back to Winterfell to announce the king's arrival.
At the center of the procession rumbled two enormous, luxuriously built carriages—though they looked more like gilded palaces on wheels than wagons.
Behind them marched nearly three hundred golden-armored guards, followed by nobles from King's Landing and their squires. Heads held arrogantly high, they passed through the northern town with looks of veiled contempt for the locals lining the roads.
At the rear came a much longer caravan of wagons hauling clothes, utensils, royal tents, and provisions for the entire retinue.
"—That's His Majesty's banner!"
"Golden cloaks from King's Landing!"
"Look, the man in golden armor!"
"It's Ser Jaime Lannister!"
"The royal caravan is here!"
From every house and shop, people poured out into the streets. With hushed awe and wide eyes, they stared at the king's grand entourage, whispering among themselves.
Soon, the news that His Majesty King Robert had arrived at Winterfell spread like wildfire across the entire town.
Jason Liu, upon hearing it, wasn't surprised in the least.
Knowing full well that the entire Winterfell stronghold must be in a frenzy trying to accommodate the massive royal procession, Jason refrained from bothering the Stark household for the time being.
Later that afternoon, many of the golden-robed soldiers accompanying the royal party—as well as the guards of the visiting lords—emerged from Winterfell Castle and settled into the hotels and inns around the market town.
Though Winterfell was large, it simply couldn't house such a multitude of guests. Thus, many were forced to find lodging outside the castle walls.
Jason Liu dispatched his trusted bodyguard, Kent, to Winterfell to find the Director, expressing his desire to meet the King and Queen.
Thanks to the friendly ties Jason had established with the Stark family, Kent managed—after quite some effort—to locate the harried Director amid the chaos of preparations. He respectfully relayed Jason's message.
However, Director, unable to decide on his own, explained that he would immediately send someone to consult Lady Catelyn for further instructions.
Kent had no choice but to wait patiently by the director's side.
