Chapter 13: The Master

Sorry for the intense explanation of the contents of Fallout 1, it is a very thorough game and required a lot of research... Even then I had to switch to Ned's perspective at the end of 'Act 1' for ease and enjoyment... I hope you all enjoy anyway.

--------------------------------------------------

A few weeks had passed since I had taken the FEV and since then my powers had grown dormant in changes. No matter how much I worked on attempting to pull this unlocked part of my powers out it was ineffective. It was as if I was visualising wrong or not considering something that was integral for its function or operation. There was no guides for this and ultimately my powers had strengthened, so I couldn't be too unhappy.

Besides my own condition though, was the state of the game. It had been moved through very quickly. Spidersidekick had completed Junk-town defeating Gizmo and his shady dealings, supporting the mayor of the town and restoring order. After he started working through the Hub, joining in on some caravans for bottle caps and items. He killed Lorenzo and took all his fortune, using it to purchase the sniper rifle from the locations' heavy weapon store. After that he completed some assassination missions for a shady figure named Decker. With money in hand and after visiting every location on the map, he decided to follow the lead about the missing caravans.

Journeying out with the Far-go traders he ran into a pack of mutants which he proceeded to stomp all over with his massive double sided hammer and the fancy new pistol that he got from one of the missions in the Hub. The merchants told him about how these people had been from the town known as the Necropolis, a location that he had learnt from a Librarian inside the hub, that had a vault below it, Vault 12, and the possible location for the much sought after water chip for Vault 13, his character's home.

Navigating the map and talking with his chat he made it to the entry to the Necropolis, a pre-war motel that was run down. Blood was covering the ground everywhere, a lovely detail put in the original game and made more sickening by the newly implemented realism. He spoke his way through and ended up running into ghouls. Killing a group of them and finding out about the sewer grates after much walking around, he found pacifist ghouls and learnt about Set their leader as well as the Super Mutants.

Things moved quickly and he finished off the Vault 12 mission, retrieving the water chip as he traversed the sewer systems and found journals explaining that the ghouls themselves were past denizens of the vault and the city above from when the nuclear explosions hit America. Vault tech had experimented with this vault by making the door not work and allowing radiation and people inside. This decision lead to the current ghouls that called the Necropolis home.

Spider ignored the mission from Set to kill the Super Mutants and simply moved on back to Vault 13, his character's home. From there he gave them the water chip, telling the Overseer about a figure called the Master, the leader of a religion called the Children of the Cathedral and his super mutant army building, as mentioned by Set in the Necropolis. With this information told to him the Overseer became concerned and sent out Spidersidekick again to find, locate and destroy this location that was producing all of the super mutants.

With the mission handed over to him and some heft XP rewards and stat upgrades he was sent out into the wastes once more where he would travel to The Brotherhood, a location found through a dialogue in the Hub. They tasked him with a mission to go to what was known as 'The Glow'. It was a location talked about in infamy as it was a place where one could face phantom death... A death unseen, unknown and unidentified until it was too late... Radiation Exposure.

Another day went by and he had finished 'The Glow' finding out about the FEV; Forced Evolution Virus. This was the source of the mutations in the first place. Luckily he found rad-away on corpses and bodies on the first floor of the Glow and was saved from death...

And, honestly, I got bored from here and tuned back in when he had found out that the Master was the big bad guy of the entire first act and he went to kill him...

"Okay guys! We learnt that the Master is a psychotic asshole who has been running human experiments with his FEV drugs. A lot of people were turned into psychics and lost their sanity, the cost of using the FEV. We also gained an understanding that the master also took this virus stuff!"

"Right! Let's go!"

He walked through flesh-infested metallic halls that were smothered with numerous liquids of varying descriptions, smells and visuals. His power armour whirred heavily amidst the sound of sticky substance being trodden upon, a fresh slimy noise that collected in the ears.

Mutants of varying types wandered the halls only to meet the blunt end of a hammer or the loud blast of a shotgun. Numerous corridors were filled with these monstrous creatures as the sounds of alarms blared in the background. Explosions quivered down through the walls as the alarms began to shut down, the lights going dark red as he approached the elevator down to the Master's Lair.

Wet noises creaked as he walked into said elevator, the servos whirring amidst the screeching of cable on pully. The light was all but gone as the night vision inside his power armour switched on. Floors passed by quickly, the elevator not being closed in, being much like a mining conveyor from before the modern era.

Flesh squelched amidst this rapid movement before the elevator ground to a halt, half of it tilting to one side as an amalgam of sinew stopped a single half. Stepping out Ned was met with a wide open room with various vats. In each vat was a creature that looked nothing like a human. Some looking more akin to snakes whilst other more akin to bird-human horrors. In the middle of the chamber though was a man's head, dangling from several hundred wires. Growths were spurting from his head like a porcupine as the gangrenous eyes regarded him neutrally.

"Enemy... It is, a fortune to speak with you... Please, converse with me."

"I don't talk to pieces of shit like you!"

"Then it seems your choice was already made long ago... Alas, a peaceful world free from Human sin and vice can not be achieved. Alas, the suffering of thy enemies will have to continue..."

Ned pulled his shot gun and immediately aimed for the head. As soon as he did so however, the head was yanked up into the ceiling and vat was lowered into the room. In this vat was a massive death-claw body, mixed with human mutants and synthetic technological parts. Flamethrowers grew from fleshy parts of this things body as laser rifles poked from barely formed hands that were vaguely in the shape of human ones.

Unlike the others though, this one lacked a head and instead had a metal socket where a head could connect to; at the stump. Then, as the head slowly started to lower from the ceiling, covered by some sort of shield or something, the vats on the side of the room exploded open.

*GRRRRAWWWRRRR*

*GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR*

*ARGUAHHHHHHH*

Three creatures that looked akin to demons from hell plopped down onto the ground as they let out bellows of pain and anger. Ned flexed his armour as his companions all pulled out their sniper rifle, laser rifle and minigun.

"You three, deal with those monsters, I'll take on the Master!"

"Understood!"

"Gotch'ya."

"Mhm"

His three companions stepped over towards the creatures and started to fire at their downed opponents. Screams ensued before said abominations began creeping upwards to their feet and slashing out. Dodges were made rapidly, some failing as the creatures directed their gaze towards Ned only to be met by the firepower of a minigun into the side of their bodies.

*GGGRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAWR!!!*

The pained scream echoed cacophonously throughout the chamber as the head was firmly attached to the monstrous beast in front of him.

"All of you will, DIE! DIE, DIE, DIE, DIE... Please, end my suffering..."

"Oh, you'll die!"

Ned pulled back his hammer and ran at the humungous creature, the laser rifles charging up as he got ever closer.
