Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Rise of the Frozen Flame
Scene: A quiet, moonlit forest drenched in mist. Silence reigns… until it shatters.
Kaoru's body collapses to the ground with a dull thud, lifeless — like a marionette whose strings were cut.
Sayuri, still cloaked in her eerie elegance, steps slowly toward Hana. Her crimson eyes glint under the pale moonlight.
Sayuri (calmly, almost playfully):
"He's not dead. But if you wish, I can end his little game right here."
Hana (furious, trembling):
"Stay away from him!"
In a blink, Hana slams her hand into the ground — a roaring moon dragon erupts from the earth beside her, howling with fury. Its glowing scales reflect her desperation and rage.
But Sayuri merely smirks — and raises her hand. From her own blood, a twisted reflection is born — a Blood Serpent Beast with glowing red fangs, equal in size and menace.
The two beasts collide with an explosive clash — tearing through the forest like titans of destruction. Trees split, the earth shakes, and thunder echoes through the jungle as both dragons engage in brutal combat.
Meanwhile…
Hana charges forward, sword flashing with lunar energy. Sayuri doesn't dodge — instead, she creates a blood-forged blade midair and parries effortlessly.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
Their swords clash again and again, sparks flying between them. Hana strikes faster, angrier — but Sayuri's movements are fluid, inhuman, as if she dances through blood itself.
Sayuri smirks mid-combat.
Sayuri (mocking):
"You're strong. But strength born of desperation... burns out quickly."
With a sudden push, Sayuri kicks Hana back. The impact sends her flying, crashing against a thick tree. Before she can react, bloody webbing explodes from Sayuri's palm, pinning Hana against the bark, immobilized.
Hana (panting, exhausted):
"Not yet... I won't lose... not here..."
Her dragon flickers, fading — its essence weakening as her strength ebbs away.
Sayuri walks toward her, slowly — like a predator savoring the final moment.
She gently traces her clawed fingers along Hana's neck, her face almost regretful… almost.
Sayuri (softly):
"Look at you now. Your attack… it had weight. But not against me."
Hana's breathing grows shallow. Her eyes search the clearing.
Hana (weakly):
"Kaoru... please... get up..."
Sayuri leans in closer, her voice a whisper of doom.
Sayuri:
"No one's coming. No one ever does."
She raises her blade, ready to end it — but then—
SLASH!
A sudden arc of icy light tears through the darkness. Sayuri gasps — her wrist is sliced clean, her blade falling to the ground. She stumbles back in shock, her blood hissing against the cold grass.
Sayuri (stunned):
"...What?"
She turns slowly.
Standing behind her... is Kaoru.
But this is no longer the man she knew.
His eyes blaze an unnatural blue, icy veins crawling up his skin. A glacial aura surrounds him, and his sword radiates with freezing power, glowing in the moonlight.
Sayuri's beast halts. It growls lowly, sensing something ancient and terrifying now awakened.
Kaoru's gaze is fixed — not on Sayuri, but Hana.
Kaoru (softly, voice echoing like frost over still water):
"You… won't touch her again."
Hana, barely conscious, smiles weakly.
Hana (whispering):
"You're awake…"
And then, her eyes close — trusting him fully.
