Chapter 12: Investigation Result: Werewolf! The Puzzled Liam!
Liam's previous strategy had indeed been as Emmy described - directly using his ability on whoever seemed most suspicious.
But now, after two daytime encounters and hearing the discussions during the meeting...
Liam now suspects everyone!
Danny and Jack sneakily formed a group and seemed to be searching for people everywhere!
Rolly's sudden change in attitude toward him—who knows what exactly Maive said to him.
And then there's this lone "soldier" Drake.
Since the grouping earlier today, when he proposed "pairing up in twos" and urgently pushed for it, this guy has seemed especially suspicious.
Particularly when the last group could've easily acted as three, yet he insisted on going solo…
What on earth is he trying to do?!
Liam doesn't even trust Emmy, who worked with him all day!
Later, when they went to the first floor to handle tasks, Liam estimated…
The storage room was way too close—no matter the delays, it shouldn't have taken that long!
Besides, even if they truly "couldn't find anything"—would searching through clutter exhaust Emmy that much?
Every single person is suspicious!
Liam felt his thoughts were a tangled mess.
"Oh well, can't just let this ability go to waste."
With this in mind, Liam decided to randomly select someone to use his ability on first.
"Let's go with Jack!"
Liam pondered, then activated his ability—having gained the detective's power, he instinctively knew how to use it.
Liam silently recited Jack's name in his mind while visualizing his appearance.
Soon, a mysterious sensation arose—as if the soul of "Jack" was laid bare before him.
With just a thought, he could peer into the secrets hidden by the other party... Whether related to this game or Jack's other secrets, he could uncover them effortlessly.
"I want to know Jack's role in this game."
With a single thought, a memory scene materialized before his eyes!
The scene was from Jack's first-person perspective.
He furtively covered his ID card with letter paper, cautiously examining it.
The text written on the ID card read...
"Your identity is: Werewolf."
Then, the scene dissipated.
Liam was momentarily stunned.
Jack was a werewolf... If that's true, he and Danny might both be werewolves.
"Hey, detective! Who did you investigate? Hurry up and share the results!"
Jack's urging voice now rang out.
Liam raised his head, looked around at the group, and opened his mouth.
The best strategy now was undoubtedly to directly inform everyone that "Jack is the werewolf" and vote him out together.
But...
Was that truly the case?
Liam exhaled and steeled his resolve.
"I used my ability to verify someone's identity, but... I'm sorry, everyone. I can't disclose the results right now."
As these words left Liam's lips, subtle shifts appeared in the expressions of everyone present.
Rolly, the most guileless homebody nerd, immediately became agitated: "Not cool bro, if you investigated just spill it! What's with the secrecy? Playing riddler now, huh?"
Liam didn't respond, merely glancing calmly at Rolly.
After Rolly spoke, Drake also chimed in unhappily: "Detective, what's your game here? Whether you found a wolf or human, revealing it would be the best course of action, no?"
Jack spoke up with a dark expression, though he didn't side with Rolly or Drake.
"F*ck*ng detective beating around the bush with your findings – seems shady as hell. And you, you f*ck*ng homebody nerd, f*ck your bloodline! You started this middleman bollshit, stammering about your ability earlier. Now the detective's got an excuse to keep holding in their farts too."
"And you soldier boy, swaggering back after soloing all day – I f*ck*ng hate posers like you! F*ck!"
Jack's indiscriminate verbal assault roasted all three men at once.
After Jack finished cursing, Liam finally calmly began to speak.
"Do you think it's beneficial for me to publicly disclose everything I find out?"
"Think carefully, idiots—what if I discover that person's identity is human?"
Relying on his arrogant detective persona, Liam counterattacked, indiscriminately targeting everyone present.
Hearing this, Emmy paused in surprise, then recalled Liam's daytime remark about "werewolves not knowing each other's identities."
Emmy exclaimed in realization: "Exactly! If the investigated person is human... announcing it might not bring significant benefit!"
Rolly looked perplexed: "How's that possible? This is like issuing a 'good identity'—giving us, the good side, vision to eliminate a 'wrong option.' How could that be useless?"
Emmy patiently explained on Liam's behalf: "But there's a crucial difference from regular Werewolf games you might've missed—the werewolves don't know their teammates' identities."
Rolly was stunned for a moment: "So what?"
Liam leaned back slightly, speaking in a lazy tone: "On the first day, the werewolf didn't kill anyone. Could there be a reason—perhaps fearing they might target their teammate?"
At Liam's words, Rolly finally caught on.
"So that's it! This game not only limits the vision of the good guys… but the werewolves too!"
"So, Detective, you kept silent to avoid giving the werewolves a safe 'kill' target and narrowing their search range for teammates, right?"
Liam chuckled softly: "At least you're not hopelessly stupid."
"Then what do we do today?"
Maive frowned and asked.
"I propose to nominate no one," Liam naturally took charge again, guiding the group. "A peaceful day and a peaceful night—we'll decide after tomorrow's investigation results. How's that?"
As Liam spoke, the conference room fell silent once again.
Drake said coldly: "What if the person you investigate tomorrow is still human?"
"If I find a human, I'll still announce it. Having two werewolves among the remaining five humans should be manageable—especially if you trust my investigation results, which would imply you consider me innocent," Liam said casually. "Besides, maybe I'll find a werewolf tomorrow when I investigate."
He spoke with a smile, sounding somewhat optimistic.
Maive poured cold water on his optimism: "A two-fifths probability, while not low, still means it's more likely you'll find a human."
Liam shrugged noncommittally.
The probability of finding a werewolf today was theoretically only one-third, yet didn't I immediately expose Jack?
But thinking this, Liam suddenly gained clarity.
"Wait, was this really due to... luck?"
This vague concept was precisely what Liam disbelieved most!
