From Scammer to Divine: The God That Lies Built

Chapter 10: The Suspicious Duo! The Horrifying Human Head Offering!

After completing this task, Liam and Emmy left the engineering room without delay.

The next task assigned to the two was still on the second floor – though in the "Chapel" on the opposite side of the second floor, requiring them to arrange offerings and light candles.

Although there was ample time to complete the next task, neither Liam nor Emmy wanted to waste any extra time.

However, after collaborating on the previous task, the two seemed to have become more familiar with each other.

Particularly Emmy – this delicate, beautiful girl appeared to be experiencing the suspension bridge effect from being in a "Death Game," coupled with Liam's efficiency and reliability during task completion...

Liam sensed she might have developed some form of dependent feelings towards him.

Even though Liam had treated her somewhat coldly and harshly earlier, she didn't seem to mind.

While heading to the next task location, Emmy even proactively initiated a conversation with Liam.

"Liam, speaking of which... have you activated your [Detective] ability yet?"

While speaking, Emmy walked ahead of Liam with her hands behind her back, her steps light and carefree, fully exposing her back to him.

Hearing Emmy's question, Liam grew wary.

However, due to Emmy's completely unprotected posture, Liam hesitated for a moment but still answered her.

"I haven't used it yet."

Liam answered her truthfully.

Emmy turned around and continued walking backward, curiously asking again:

"Huh? Why aren't you using... How do you plan to use it?"

Liam pondered for a moment before saying: "To be honest, the 'Detective'—an information role that can determine the course of the game—will inevitably be the primary target for the werewolves."

"For you, even if I verified a villager on the first day, it would still help reduce your list of suspects regardless..."

"But for me, if we can't find the werewolf and vote them out on the first day... If two werewolves are remaining by the second day and they've had time to 'recognize each other' through the day, my situation would become extremely dangerous - even your position would be at great risk."

Liam analyzed methodically, while Emmy listened with growing confusion.

She tilted her head in thought for a moment before giving up with a dismissive wave.

"Alright... Then how do you plan to use it?"

"For the first day's investigation, I intend to save it for the final 'meeting phase'. I'll conduct meticulous reasoning based on their speeches then, and identify the most suspicious person to confirm their identity."

Liam spoke with earnest seriousness.

Emmy laughed at this, her eyes curved like crescent moons.

"You're amazing. With you here, this game should be much easier."

Emmy declared with sincere conviction.

As they conversed while walking, they had already covered most of the distance, passing by the spiral staircase at the center of the ancient castle.

Footsteps and voices came from the stairs.

"D*mn it, this mission is so f*ck*ng ridiculous, it even made me bump my hand!"

"Exactly, Jack, this mission's got such a d*mn perverse twist…"

"Where's the next mission again? Screw it, let's go find the others first!"

From the voices, it was Jack and Danny!

As their voices and footsteps drew closer, Liam quickly pulled Emmy aside and hid behind a corner of the stairwell.

Startled by Liam's sudden pull, Emmy froze.

She was about to instinctively cry out when Liam clamped his hand over her mouth.

"Be careful—they might be werewolves!"

Liam whispered urgently.

Emmy stared at him, confusion and shock flickering in her eyes.

"This d*mn castle is way too huge!"

"Don't you think... if the owner living here gets up to use the toilet at midnight, they'd end up soiling their pants..."

"I mean, has anyone ever actually lived in this godforsaken place?"

Jack and Danny's voices gradually faded into the distance, apparently heading downstairs to the first floor.

Only then did Liam release his hand from covering Emmy's mouth.

Emmy quickly extricated herself from Liam's embrace, clutching the hem of her clothes in slight disarray.

"Let's hurry!"

She resumed walking with some shyness.

After walking with Liam for a while longer, Emmy finally whispered again: "That... detective, why did you say those two were werewolves?"

"Jack and Danny's first task was to add fuel in the third-floor equipment room. Their second task was in the cleaning supplies room on the opposite side of the third floor, both with estimated completion time exceeding fifteen minutes each."

"It's unlikely they could finish two tasks in the time we took for one. But if they didn't complete both third-floor tasks... what would they need to do on the first floor?"

Liam said calmly.

Emmy recalled the words of Jack and Danny from earlier and instinctively replied, "They mentioned something about looking for someone..."

"Is there a need for humans to look for people?"

Liam interrupted her.

Emmy's expression finally changed slightly.

"So, these two are likely werewolves?"

Liam didn't deny it: "At least in my view, their behavior is suspicious."

However, Liam's current certainty stemmed solely from his persona as a "detective" needing to act this way.

In reality, Liam still had some doubts in his mind.

To have two werewolves assigned to the same group so suddenly—how could such a coincidence exist?

Moreover, the werewolves in this game didn't initially know each other's identities...

So even if grouped, could they confirm each other's identities so quickly?

Assuming I were a werewolf...

Liam tried to put himself in their shoes but couldn't figure out how to quickly determine whether his groupmate was a "teammate" within such a short time.

The doubts and sense of dissonance in his heart grew even stronger.

As Liam was pondering, Emmy's voice sounded again.

"Detective, we're here."

Liam jerked his head up, realizing he had nearly walked past the entrance to the "Prayer Room."

"Sorry, I was a bit distracted just now."

Liam said, then pushed open the Prayer Room's door.

Compared to the dilapidated and dirty rooms in the castle, this Prayer Room was unexpectedly tidy.

The small room had windows completely covered by heavy curtains that blocked out the light, with only wall sconces burning dimly, leaving the room dimly lit.

On the wall directly facing the door stood a shrine about half a person's height, carved with reliefs depicting lunar phases.

Inside the shrine stood a tall, humanoid statue - nude, with musculature that blended raw power and wildness, though its head was missing.

Directly beneath the shrine stood a circular altar filled with offerings and two kneeling cushions.

When Emmy saw the altar, she suddenly cried out in alarm.

"Ah...!"

With a terrified expression, she pointed at an offering at the center of the altar—a somewhat shriveled, irregularly shaped sphere.

Liam had initially thought it was some kind of fruit, but upon hearing Emmy's exclamation, he finally saw the true appearance of the offering and felt his heart skip a beat.

It was a horrifying human head with its facial features carved off!
