Chapter 16: Chapter 15 - Ares
I flew up into the sky and saw Serie approaching me.
"What happened?!" she shouted, clearly frightened.
"It's that bastard Ares. I need to find that son of a bitch. I have to kill him," I yelled. I was starting to lose control for some reason. I wasn't usually like this.
"Calm down! Please, get a hold of yourself. If you go there now, you'll be killed! Do you understand?" Serie grabbed my shoulders and shouted. "If you show up in Rakia, their entire army will come after you. Can you handle all of them in your current state? Don't do anything stupid!"
"But… But…"
"Besides Rakia's army, there's the god Ares himself. Can you face him? I don't know what happened, but you need to get a grip." I kept grinding my teeth and tried to take a deep breath.
Then I descended back to the ground, with Serie following close behind.
As soon as I landed, I walked toward the tree's trunk.
'They didn't do anything here, did they?'
"My queen, tell me—what happened? What did Ares do?"
"Do you remember that man who came from Rakia? More of them showed up. I asked one of them directly. They were acting under Ares' orders."
"His orders?"
"That's right. That bastard wants my body. Just thinking about it gives me chills. What does he want with my body? Was it him who caused all this? Was he after my body and cursed me?"
"Maybe it was him, but you need to control yourself."
"I don't know if I can, Serie. For some reason, I just can't control myseft. Something inside me is boiling."
"Try that. Sit down and start your training. You always seem so calm when you're training."
Hearing Serie's words, I approached the trunk of the tree and touched it.

Without a word, I climbed the stairs and sat in the usual spot.
I closed my eyes and took several deep breaths.
Then, I began the conversion.
As soon as it started, I began to calm down. The rage I felt slowly subsided, and whatever had been "boiling" inside me vanished completely.
My magic circle began spinning wildly in front of me.
In this dark space, only my magic circle and I remained.
A peaceful, soothing space.
But it didn't last long. It felt like just a few seconds had passed, but I was certain hours had gone by. I have completed the conversion.
Serie was sitting at the bottom of the stairs with her eyes closed.
She's copying my posture.
I slowly descended the stairs, and Serie heard my footsteps. "It really is relaxing to do this," she said. "How are you feeling? Did you manage to calm down?"
"Yes, I'm calmer now. Thank you for not letting me do something stupid."
"I already took care of the bodies, so you don't need to worry."
"Thanks, Serie. I'm going to your house now. I want to take a bath and rest."
"What are you planning to do tomorrow? You're not thinking about going to Rakia, are you? I won't let you do something so foolish."
"I want to... but if I do, Is basically be handing myself over to him. With my current strength, it would be stupid."
"That's good to hear. You need to plan carefully, and I'll help you with that."
"Don't even think about it. When I go there, I'll go alone. I don't want you getting involved in this fight."
"I've been part of this fight for centuries, Frieren." It was the first time Serie had called me by name. "So don't treat me like some helpless woman who can't defend herself. I've protected this place for years and survived. When the time comes, I'll be right there by your side—and we'll do this together, understand?"
"..." I didn't say a word.
I ignored her and walked away.
Serie remained where she was and didn't follow me.
As soon as I entered her house, I smelled something delicious being cooked and went to the kitchen. When I got there, I found some meat roasting in the oven. 'It smells great, but it doesn't look very good.'
I went to the bathroom and took a bath. Then I put on a white robe for sleeping.
It wasn't that late yet, but I felt like going to sleep. I didn't want to think about anything else today.
And that's what I did.
I ignored the food that was being prepared and ended up falling asleep.

POV: Third Person
"They disappeared?"
"Yes, they vanished as soon as they entered the forest near the tree, just like the first man. They were probably attacked by some unknown monster."
"Hmm..."
As soon as Ares heard the report from one of his generals, he already knew exactly what had happened. 'A strange monster, huh? Not a chance.' he thought.
Ares dismissed the general and began to reflect on the past.
The Queen of the Elves.
A being on par with the gods—someone who came into the world even before them.
"That woman... I want so badly to have her body with me. I want her body so I can understand where all that power comes from."
Ares remembered seeing Frieren on the battlefield once.
He had never seen anything like it.
A devastating power. A force capable of destroying an entire nation.
He wanted that power for himself.
But he was never able to lay hands on her body because of the elves' protection—and the protection of the tree itself. A tree that defied even the authority of the gods.
"Should I go retrieve her body myself? I think it might be possible this time if I go there in person."
Ares had sent several men in recent days to gather information about Frieren's body location and to find out whether the body was still well protected. But none of them had returned. 'They're definitely dead,' Ares thought.
"If someone's protecting her body, it can only be that woman... I'm sure she's not dead."
Ares let out a sigh—and then smiled.
