Chapter 95: rezero : Davialo
Diavolo Death # ? ? ? ?
It's morning, and the world stands, almost silent, disturbed by the passing birds and life. It's a normal day—too normal, right? There was a calming meadow, and the winds were breezing by to pick up the grass surrounding a figure.
There stood a man, unphased by the world around him. The ever-closing winds, the intense, blinding sunlight, and the loud, annoying chirping ,there stood Diavolo.
His eyes were lifeless; his thoughts were empty. He had seen it all, hadn't he?
He had been forced to see it all; he had been cast into a hell of his rival's creation.
But he wasn't thinking about any of that, was he? He wasn't thinking about anything now. Because… What's the point?
He can't do anything; he's already tried it all.
All attempts end in failure.
All attempts lead to death.
The noticeably pink-haired, tall, lifeless figure, who moments ago stood in a peaceful environment, was suddenly surrounded by a dark, uncanny atmosphere. The sun was gone, the winds violent, and the birds sent away, as the entire world went black and red. When it felt like the entire earth was shaking and the grassy plains turned into sandy dunes, Diavolo was yet again strangled to death. What killed him, he couldn't possibly know. He knew the pain was unbearable, the logic was flawed, and nothing mattered anymore.
His body reformed, and he decided to open his eyes yet again.
The light was intense this time, as he struggled to keep his eyes straight. There was so much noise. It was like a thousand things happening at once. He heard voices. The sounds of carriages and the footsteps of people
When he finally re-adjusted his eyes, he saw a city brewing with life and civilization. There were families sharing laughter; brick, stone, and wooden buildings along with large wooden carriages transporting goods; and... lizard people.
All he could think, if anything at all;
'It's just a matter of time'
Because it always was; Wasn't it?
He sighed and was still standing in the middle of what seemed like a street. Confused, he looked around, deciding to humor the game of Golden Experience Requiem once again. It had been awhile after all.
After what felt like years since he had bothered to move his body an inch; he struggled to even blink again as he rubbed his eyes with his hands.
To his left, a younger man, perhaps nearing his 20s, stood looking as hopelessly lost as he did.
His clothing and appearance were unlike those of the other residents, and he was holding some kind of bag; it was almost modern in a sense.
As a matter of fact, everything he had observed thus far was far from his definition of 'modern'. It was almost as if he was put into some sort of medieval kingdom; there were people who had swords and daggers and wore large metal armor and chainmail protection. Just what kind of game is this? He thought he would probably just die in some carriage or something stupid like that-
He was thinking again; odd but welcome.
Diavolo, while gathering his thoughts, was suddenly interrupted by the boy who stood next to him and they randomly yelled out,
"I've been summoned into another world!"
The fishnet-wearing man was now even more confused, but he decided that whatever was going on was different than the usual death loop. It was uncharacteristic of Golden Experience Requiem to make him question freedom. Or… maybe this is just another trick.
He walked up to the boy, who seemed to be the only outlier and stood in front of him. He towered over him like he was an ant, it made Diavolo feel superior.
The boy, who had stars in his eyes, let out more insane ramblings
"M-My first boss encounter so early?!"
This made Diavolo chuckle a bit, it had been… so long. So long since he was called boss of anything. His face quickly snapped into a more serious one before he said,
"W-... w….a-" Diavolo let out strange noises, as if he was doing some kind of animalistic impression.
… What?
"What?" The stars in the boy's eyes faded as he looked at Diavolo, now tremendously underwhelmed. Was he expecting something else?
The truth was, it had been an outrageous amount of time since Diavolo last spoke words; he could hardly formulate any with his mouth, which he also forgot how to use.
"...where are…." He somewhat formulated, beginning to get a better grasp again.
The boy tilted his head.
"Are you lost, old man?" He sounded genuinely concerned.
This, very quickly, made Diavolo pissed off, which was another thing he never thought he would be again.
His aura exploded as his face quickly began to twitch into an angry expression.
The boy took a step back, getting into a surprisingly adept fighting stance. He looked incredibly confident.
"Where…are we?" Diavolo managed to let out these words, resisting the urge to strangle the boy with his hands. His voice was raspy and cold, but the words still pierced. It was clear to the boy that he was trying to hold himself back.
The boy hesitantly dropped his fighting stance and had a more inquisitive expression.
"So... you are from another world too?" He caught on, putting a thumb to his chin and raising a brow.
"E…Earth… Italy…" Diavolo spat out.
"You're from Earth! So, we're in the same boat then?" The boy put on a cheeky grin and snorted, "Heh, I guess we'll have to find a way to share EXP points between our party, huh? Well, look, I consider myself an expert at these types of RPG games, so just follow my lead, old man, and- "
The boy was cut off by Diavolo's arm being clamped onto his shoulder. He blinked before looking up and meeting his cold, unimpressed eyes.
"You… Are…. Annoying…. Shut the fuck up!" The man yelled in the middle of the street while tightening his grip on the boy's shoulder. Now those were some words he could put to use.
A few people in the crowd looked over at the commotion as the two stood in silence for a moment.
The silence was cut off by Diavolo who was regaining his speech yet again.
"Let's talk somewhere else, before I kill you in the middle of the street." He remarked, not stuttering once with that sentence.
"... R-Right! Sure thing, party leader! Haha!" The boy put on a fake smile and began to shadow Diavolo.
Diavolo had always been… malicious. He was a ruthless, cold hearted crime syndicate; hellbent on keeping his precious identity secured. He even would go as far as to murder his own daughter; well, had it not been for Giorno and Buccirati's intervention. All of those bastards were no better than dirt eating traitors from the start, he should have known better.
As they walked among the streets, hearing the sounds of carriages passing by and chatter among the other kingdom inhabitants, the boy, who was feeling incredibly uncomfortable, tried to speak up again.
"So…" The boy started, "What's your name? My name is Natsuki Subaru, in case you were-"
He stopped as the footsteps of the giant man in front of him began to almost make the earth shake around them.
"wondering…" He sighed, beginning to feel a small rush of hopelessness.
After some walking, they stumbled across a building that appeared to resemble some kind of bar. Diavolo couldn't read any of the inscriptions or writings on any of the buildings; they seemed to be in some kind of non-existent language. He stepped in as the anxious boy stumbled in with him, almost tripping into his back.
It was a room full of freaks, at least, that's what it seemed like to Diavolo, as his entry was met with stares from the entire building before one of the 'freaks' yelled out.
"HEY! DEMI-HUMANS ONLY PAL!"
Diavolo scoffed, as a 'demi-human' almost twice his size had pushed him and the boy out of the bar near the railings of the canal outside. Did these animals consider themselves better than him? What a foolish proposition; they were lucky he was powerless.
What was he thinking, even? None of this was real.
The boy, who was blinded somehow after being nudged, began to stumble and tripped into the canal, as Diavolo sighed before catching his shirt and stopping his fall.
When he regained his balance, he looked back up at the man, who didn't make any sound.
"T-thanks, I almost fell." He laughed, putting an arm behind his head.
The laughter quickly faded when the man didn't even bother to respond, simply looking the other way and continuing to walk.
'Subaru' had sighed yet again, preparing himself for his boring isekai adventure.
"Of all the party members I could have gotten..." he muttered to himself.
They walked and walked, randomly attempting to enter buildings and being kicked out promptly for misunderstandings.
Notably; they even stumbled upon an 'appa' stand. 'Appa's' were basically the Apples of this world, which Diavolo found completely intolerable, much like everything else he had seen thus far.
It didn't help that the owner was a tool.
They eventually found an alleyway; and upon stepping in, the pink-haired menace leaned against the wall as his green eyes locked onto the carefree Subaru who was moments ago behind him.
"This will work." He ominously said, almost freezing the area around him.
Subaru stood across from Diavolo and tried to get an answer to his own dying question.
"Alright, party leader." He said annoyingly to the ex-boss, "I think it's about time you tell me a little bit about yourself. So who are you?" Subaru asked with conviction.
Diavolo, still peering into the boy, simply closed his eyes, responding,
"What a pointless question. You already know who I am. Since this is all some sick game you're playing, isn't it Giorno?" A severe hint of anger was present in this statement.
Subaru could only blink, wondering what he was talking about and, moreover, who he was talking about.
"Um, pardon me?" He quacked
Diavolo focused his eyes fiercely on Subaru; his pupils almost emitting green fire,
"You can't fool me anymore. This is by far one of your most elaborate illusions, Giorno Giovanna; But unfortunately for you, I've already witnessed it all!" Diavolo announced.
'This guy has lost it.' Subaru thought to himself, shaking his head.
"Um, look, man, I don't know who this is... 'Giorno' guy is, but I assure you I am not him. My name is Natsuki Subaru, as I stated before. And uh, I don't think we've ever met before seeing each other in that street." Subaru nervously tried to explain.
"LIAR!" Diavolo yelled, punching the wall next to him, causing his hand to begin to bleed and the bricks to break.
Subaru flinched; this guy was twice his size and clearly crazy, and now he was defenselessly in an alleyway with him.
Diavolo grabbed onto the front of Subaru's track jacket and held him up with one arm as the boy hopelessly struggled.
"YOU ARE JUST ANOTHER ILLUSION! JUST ANOTHER LOOP WAITING TO HAPPEN; I'VE SEEN IT, SO KILL ME ALREADY, YOU BASTARD! DO NOT TEMPT ME WITH A POSSIBLE ESCAPE!" Diavolo clenched his hand, holding Subaru's jacket, as the boy began to choke.
"S-Stop… P-please stop!" The boy gasped for air as the grip tightened on his neck.
Diavolo could only get angrier as this 'illusion' pretended to struggle in his grasp. It was obviously a setup to lull him into a false hope.
Suddenly, three goonish-looking men began walking in behind the two. One of them was a rather small-looking midget; the other was a chain-wearing rockstar type; and the third was just some brute.
Diavolo, hearing them step in, released his grip on Subaru as the boy fell to the floor, clasping onto his chest and breathing heavily and coughing.
He stared at the three, his gaze making them shiver surprisingly.
"What are' you two up to in here?" The midget mocked his bravado still in tact even after undergoing such a fearsome gaze.
"Rather than you stealing from this punk, how about you both give us everything instead?" The blue-haired, skinnier one smirked, stepping closer to Diavolo, who remained silent staring at them.
His confidence quickly faded as he sized up the man. It was hard to explain his aura and presence; it was terrifying to even stand in front of him and be in his view. There was just something about his eyes… it was like he stared into pure darkness.
But, utterly suddenly suddenly, a loud feminine voice is heard behind them as a girl runs behind them all.
"MOVE OUT THE WAY, YOU GUYS!" She yelled, continuing her sprint.
While the four of them were distracted, Subaru could only think of one thing in this situation:
"Is that the cute girl who summoned me?" He yelled out in glee.
She stopped her sprint, and a moment of silence was shared between the group of 5.
"Um summoned? I have no idea what you're talkin' about, but I've got no time!" She quickly made a weird gesture.
"Sorry! Live Strong!" She remarked before giggling and jumping across the rooftops between the alleyways.
"WHAT?!" Subaru was shocked, still completely ignoring his situation.
After the girl was gone, the silence began to grow more and more intense, and Diavolo, surprisingly enough, broke it.
"Is this some kind of... new level of hell? Maybe…Ma-Maybe Golden Experience Requiem is finally starting to lose some power... O-Or maybe I've just completely lost my mind... Is it even possible to lose your mind twice?" The man began to spout nonsense as the three looked at him, confused.
"Right, it's pretty clear to us you've lost it, dummy. If there's still some brain power, can you do us the favor of handing over your belongings so we won't have to kill you?" The blue-haired fiend chuckled, feeling his confidence surge back as his image of the man faded.
"Belongings? Heh, hahaha! HAHAHAHAHAH; YOU WON'T KILL ME?! WHAT A HILARIOUS PROSPECT!" Diavolo began to laugh uncontrollably and uncharacteristically, making the entire group unnerved and annoyed.
Meanwhile, Subaru simply sat down calmly, assessing the situation.
'Just calm down, Natsuki Subaru; it's been displayed countless times that anyone summoned into another world will have powers!'
Subaru stood, as the other party member had just laughed like he was insane, keeping all three of the goons distracted.
He yelled out,
"YOU'RE JUST ALL LUMPS OF EXP!"
He sent a clean fist at the brute, knocking him back and making him fall. He then swirled his foot over to the midget, kicking him square in the face and launching him back as well.
"MY ADRENALINE IS SURGING! I GOT THIS!" He joyfully remarked, charging at the blue-haired goon, before he pulled out some blades.
He immediately groveled onto the floor, apologizing to them, before he quickly received a kick to the nose, causing him to cry out in incredible pain.
Diavolo, whose laughter slowly faded, just stared at this; lifting a tear from his eye.
The other 2 got back up before aiding in kicking the Subaru, as all 3 of them were unleashing volleys on him.
While this happened for almost a minute, Diavolo was thinking about a lot of things.
For one; he acknowledged how utterly pathetic and useless this boy was to him. He was shown throughout their little tour of this kingdom-like world to be barely worth keeping around. But more importantly, he began to wonder; Was he still in the death loop? He couldn't recall in any of the millions of deaths that they could last more than 5 minutes. Could they potentially last for years? Maybe they have and he doesn't remember, or maybe...
Maybe he is somehow free?
"H-Help me, party leader!" Subaru called out, being ignored by Diavolo as he was kicked again. The goons had just decided to leave him alone, considering he wasn't actually showcasing any threat whatsoever.
He had been in this world for almost 3 hours now, just exploring the strange workings of it with this 'Subaru' fool, but was any of it actually real? It was ridiculous, sure, but was it actually impossible? Was there actually a chance that he was summoned out of the death loop by something stronger than the golden experience requiem? If so, who, what, and why?
He contemplated this all at once, whilst his 'party member' was getting beat up by the goons, until yet another feminine voice was heard across the alley.
"That's enough."
It was a dignified voice, one that was strong and potent. The carrier was a young woman, one who was ridiculously beautiful when compared to most women Diavolo had ever seen. Her eyes were a fierce purple, and she wore a white dress to accompany her rather average build. Strangely, though, she had white hair and long, pointy ears, almost like she was some kind of Elvish descendant.
"Who the hell are you?" One of the goons yelled out.
"Stop now, and I'll let this slide, and give me back what you stole." She stated.
The goons stood hopelessly confused, while Diavolo and Subaru stared at her for their own differing reasons.
"We didn't steal anything from you; as a matter of fact, we thought you were trying to help this boy." The brute responded.
"He has some very strange clothes, same with that man across from him, but I don't know either of them." She added.
"So, you've got no business with us then! If anyone stole from you, it was that weird girl who jumped past us."The brute tried to avert the situation, being backed up by the others.
"They don't seem to be lying." She thought for a moment before running past them to try and catch them, but quickly stopped.
"However, I still can't overlook what's going on here!" She said this before raising her palm and casting some sort of ice sphere at the three of them.
'M-Magic?' Subaru questioned.
'A stand?' Diavolo looked amazed; Stand power, was it capable in this facade of a world?!
"Just because you can use magic doesn't mean you can still win two against one!" Two of the goons stood, preparing to fight again.
"True, so why don't we even the odds?" She said this before a cat-like creature manifested in her hand.
"A S-Spirit arts user?" one of the questioned shocked.
'That must be her stand, it's rather small; but the power she has showcased with it is not to be underestimated.' The gang-boss analyzed.
"Yep, now go away, and I'll leave you alone." She smirked.
Some more banter was exchanged before the three ran out of the alley into the streets ahead.
"You saved me. Thanks." Subaru exchanged, staring directly into her eyes. He was clearly already head over heels for this 'woman'. To Diavolo, she was just as much a monster as the demi-humans and giant reptiles which moved the carriages.
Whilst several exchanges took place between the 2; Diavolo took a moment to question his entire reality. Just what the hell is this?! Some sort of sick joke? He had several theories of just how he would die, but none of them were coming into fruition. Of course, he was not opposed to that notion, but.. was he?! He was somewhat conflicted. If it was really possible that what he was seeing was actually happening; that just maybe he was really free… Then why did it have to happen now?
Why couldn't it have been decades ago, when he was still able to feel anything, able to feel fear when he died.
He was just a husk of his former self now; he was an emotionless bag of flesh, and he felt that even with this second chance… it was no different than being confined to his hellish torment.
He sighed, rubbing his temple with his hands as his eyes were closed, angered.
Subaru had passed out on the floor while talking to the elf woman before she turned to Diavolo, who had a fire of rage within his green, scary eyes once he opened them to look at her.
"You can take care of him, right? I don't want to leave him here like this." She pouted, while her stand simply held a smug grin.
"I don't know this boy, nor do I care about him. But I have no choice but to protect him." He sighed, a hint of anger leaving his voice.
While yes, he did detest this boy he recently met; He still had to keep in mind this boy was the only ties to Earth he had, to his original world. Furthermore, he was summoned here with him, so he clearly had some value to the summoner, whoever that may be.
She blinked before looking down at the boy, who was covered in bruises, probably had broken some bones, and was clearly in no condition to walk before proceeding to heal his injuries instinctively.
"Well, I guess I can make a little time to do this before I chase her down. But; you are a little… mean." The girl spoke aloud.
Mean? He supposed he was.
Diavolo, who stared at her while she healed his wounds, wondered how her stand entirely functioned, as it seemed to have incredible offensive and defensive capabilities.
"You hold a formidable stand; I assume you are healing him with its ability." Diavolo was questioned out of the blue.
The girl simply looked up at him and tilted her head.
"S-Stand? What do you mean?" She was dumbfounded.
Diavolo stared at her like it was obvious before elaborating.
"Your 'stand', which is the source of your power? Is this not obvious?" He elaborated a hint of annoyance.
"..." She simply stared at him, while the cat creature also titled its head.
"I am going to assume the feline creature is its manifestation. Whether you know it yourself or not."
"Aw, stop! You're making me blush!" The cat creature jokingly said this, making Diavolo simply shrug his shoulders. It wasn't uncommon for stands to have some level of sentiance.
"What is this guy talking about, Puck?" The girl whispered
"This is pretty strange, Lia; I sense... darkness within this one. And I can tell he is also telling us the truth about all this 'stand' talk. It's likely he is insane; you should be careful around him." The spirit whispered into the elf woman's ears.
A few more moments had passed before the boy awoke yet again, this time in the lap of the cat spirit, who was the size of a person now.
Foolishly, the boy had imagined it was the lap of the woman who saved him earlier, and a wholesome moment was shared between the three.
Diavolo simply leaned against the wall with his arms crossed, thinking to himself. The unnamed elf keeps her eyes locked on him, showcasing her incredible distrust. Diavolo, of course, didn't bother paying attention to her, as she was just background noise to him, much like everything else in this world. Wait a second. Did that boy notice her stand? Perhaps he is a user…
Ignoring this development, he began to reminisce about several things: Passione, his original world... … Giorno Giovanna….
He clenched his teeth, letting more anger escape him as his eyebrows twitched at the thought of his arch enemy. It was his fault he went through all of this, after all, wasn't it? Diavolo dreamed of the thought of killing him in some of the ways he had died himself; the possibilities were quite literally endless. But there were just 3 things that prevented him from getting any of this: he was lost in another world, he didn't have the power of requiem, and he didn't even know how he lost originally.
Diavolo's thoughts were cut off by the sounds of footsteps, as the girl cautiously stepped past him, being followed by the annoying Subaru.
He sighed, deciding to follow his only lead for the time being, as he really had no other connections to the real world besides him. He could only watch annoyed as they bickered like a couple and followed them across the city in search of some ridiculous 'insignia'.
After what felt like hours of searching for nothing, the three had sat at a high point within the town, observing many buildings and landscapes from the clearing.
"This town might be too big to find what you're looking for." Subaru commented while they relaxed for the moment.
She looked over at him with a puzzled look on her face.
"It's the capital of Lagunica; you didn't even know that." She paused for a moment, not knowing his name.
"Shall we introduce ourselves?" The cat creature asked the group
"I'll go first then!" Subaru stood up, doing some stupid pose, while Diavolo held back the urge to jump from the rooftop, and the woman just looked at him unimpressed.
"My name is Natsuki Subaru; nice to meet you!" He spouted
"I'm Puck!" The cat spirit flew around before flying onto Subaru's hand. Somehow not passing through him like a typical stand would, even stranger was the woman's casual response.
"It's very unusual to see someone who can touch a spirit so casually."
'What? Touch a spirit, so-'
Diavolo had to process this now. It seemed the people of this world could see stands regardless of being users. What a horrifying thought—the idea of a world in which every man, woman, and demi-human beast could possibly be in touch with their fighting spirit. It just spells out chaos and anarchy; it is a miracle this world can be held together with such a quality.
"You don't know where you are, can't read, have no money, and only have this mistrustful man to help you; you may be in more of a precarious position than me!" She gasped, holding a hand to her mouth.
"Surprisingly enough, though, I can tell you are rather muscular." 'Puck' commented
"I work out every day. But it's understandable for a shut-in like me." Subaru slyly added
'That makes a lot more sense,' Diavolo acknowledged silently.
"But we haven't heard your name!" Subaru quickly changed the topic.
"My name?" The girl pondered for a moment, making Diavolo raise an eyebrow.
"Satella." She coldly said Causing the cat spirit to look at her approvingly.
As Diavolo had expected, though, the boy simply stared at her with his love-struck eyes.
"I see, Satella... That's a nice name!" He said smiling.
'No, it isn't.' Diavolo thought to himself, shaking his head but saying nothing.
"What about you?" The girl looked over to Diavolo, who was still sulking to himself.
What about him? He was just your run-of-the mill former Italian gang boss with a perfectly concealed identity. Well, he was before Gionro ruined his plan. Now he is just... Diavolo, right?
Does it even matter if he hides his identity here? He's practically more hidden than he could have ever been in Italy—no records, no past... So?
It won't hurt to just be
"Doppio." He lied, speaking again after not talking since he tried to strangle Subaru in the alleyway. Old habits die hard, he guessed.
"My name is just Doppio; no family name." He lied again; of course, it was completely impossible to tell he was lying. Well, it would have been if Puck wasn't there.
"Doppio huh?" Subaru put a finger on his chin.
Subaru never forgot what Diavolo did earlier; it was actually present in his mind the entire time they were together while looking for Satella's stolen belongings. He kept faith that she would keep him safe if he tried anything else, and besides, it wouldn't hurt to keep another party member close by regardless of how much they wanted to strangle you.
Puck simply stared at Diavolo suspiciously, knowing damn well he was trying to keep his identity a secret.
"Welp, I guess we can continue our search." Subaru rekindled the mood with his happy-go-lucky attitude as the group began to search Lagunica's grounds yet again.
As they yet again walked throughout the grounds of Lagunica, the elf stopped to observe a lost child and looked over to Subaru for advice.
Diavolo scoffed. This was just a distraction from the main goal, wasn't it? He just watched as they consoled the girl and followed them throughout the streets as they searched for the parents.
After eventually reuniting the girl with her mother, the three wandered over to a bridge to relax again. Diavolo was, of course, sick of relaxing at this point; he had too many questions and such little information at this point that he just contemplated killing them both and going his own way. But he resisted, getting more dangerous looks from Puck in the meantime. It was almost as if his thoughts could be read by the stand; that's a risk he can't take.
After more banter was exchanged between Subaru and Satella, Diavolo could only discern from the conversation that half-elf hybrids seemed to be some sort of oppressed or disliked race. It was good to know, but in the grand scheme, it was useless for him.
By now the sun was almost down and the search continued. Hell, it turned out that one of the people they had been chastised by for not having money earlier was the father of the girl they rescued. This inevitably led the group to a more rundown part of Lagunica after he gave them knowledge about some 'felt' girl. It was filled with homeless, starved, and brittle people, all trash to the Passione leader. The only thing he could wonder was how they would try and steal from him; it was either that or begging for money like the gutter rats they all were to him. They walked through the trashy suburbs and ignored all the hate-filled gazes of the people there, but they eventually stopped when Puck chimed in.
"We should hurry; it takes a lot of mana to stay in my physical form, and as a spirit, I only have so much time before I must prepare for the next day."
'Nonsense' Diavolo scoffed; it was impossible for this 'Puck' to be a stand at this point. There were too many inconsistencies with other stands Diavolo had encountered. He had concluded that Puck was an actual spirit, almost like some kind of supernatural being. Stands themselves weren't so far out of the realm of this, but it came as a bit of a shock to Diavolo that this Satella woman may have actually been using some kind of magic earlier in the Alleyway, and past that, spirits existed at all.
"But I feel like I should make something known to you, Doppio." Puck suddenly gazed into Diavolo, his cutesy demeanor contrasting with his sharp stare.
Subaru turned over to face Diavolo along with Satella. Diavolo simply raised a brow, wondering what he would possibly say.
"I won't hesitate to kill you if you try anything on her. I may not seem intimidating to you, but I am a lot stronger than the average spirit." He didn't move an inch while saying this, but to Puck's surprise, Diavolo didn't either, simply shrugging his shoulders. Did he not even feel any of the murderous intent that was sent his way?
Subaru and Satella shivered at the unexpected line from Puck, while Diavolo just ignored it. He wasn't scared of anything anymore; after all, he'd lived through several eternities.
Puck sighed,
"Well, with that out of the way, I'm at my limit." Puck yawned before exploding into several colorful wisp-like orbs and being collected onto the crest on Satella's chest.
Diavolo watched calmly, while Subaru thought it was the coolest thing he had ever seen.
As they kept up their walk, crossing an old wooden bridge, Satella suddenly stopped looking off into the river while holding her crest.
"Satella? What are you doing? We should continue looking for felt."Subaru questioned, while Diavolo finally agreed with something he said, nodding in agreement.
"I'm going to ask the lesser spirits what to do." She answered
"Lesser spirits?" Subaru asked yet again.
Satella then explained the concept of spirits to the two, and from what Diavolo understood, lesser spirits were a form of spirit, similar to Puck, that haven't become completely aware of their surroundings yet and have trouble conjuring up a physical form.
He watched along with Subaru as the elf began to emit blue light, summoning several spirits out of seemingly nowhere and reciting some kind of chant. This went on for the next couple minutes, but Diavolo could only be distracted as Subaru simply stared at her like some kind of spell was cast onto him.
Eventually the group made their way to a dirt path; at this point, the lights of other parts of Lagunica could be seen from a distance, illuminating the darkness that now covered the world. It was almost dead silent if not for the chirping of crickets and the in-between talks of Subaru and Satella every once and awhile.
They passed by a scruffy-looking guy; he seemed to be nearing his 30s, and he was minding his own business. Subaru decided to inquire about this felt girl, to which he promptly responded.
"Felt, huh? Well, if you keep headin' that way, I guarantee you will find Old Man Rom's loot house. Hehe, she stole something from you guys, huh? Well, I guess you'll have to try and negotiate to get it back. Live Strong." He put up his hand, similar to the way that the felt girl did, before heading his own way.
Now they were outside an ominous-looking building, which seemed to be even more rundown than any of the previous places they had seen before in the slums.
As Satella and Subaru yet again conversed, Diavolo stood to the side, waiting for this 'quest' to be over already.
He disliked the idea of Subaru forcing this woman to join their journeys, he already hated being around the fool, but this woman would just make it even more annoying.
He watched as the boy took a step in after saying something stupid, as he usually did.
It only took less than a minute before that girl followed soon after, they were both such a perfect match for each other; the perfect pair of morons to Diavolo.
As Diavolo just waited outside, beginning to drift off for the first time in centuries, he then heard a scream from within the loot-house…
To be continued...
