In the blink of an eye, half a month had passed. During this time, Asher led the army to reclaim the second and even third foreign tribe territories, but he did not encounter the spirit that had escaped from the Gate to the Otherworld again. Even more surprisingly, there were no fierce battles. Asher easily took back the lands once occupied by the foreign tribes.
There were hardly any guards in these foreign tribal territories; it was as if they had defected, disarmed, and surrendered respectfully.
Ordinary people, however, were unaware of this. Because of the rapid pace at which these territories were recaptured, legends about the King were now circulating all over Britain.
"Although young, he is a prodigy of unparalleled talent, conquering three territories consecutively in less than half a month! The foreign tribes were utterly defeated and fled in disarray!"
This was the legend currently spreading in Britain.
"It's really a bit strange. Where did all the foreign tribe members go?" Asher sat quietly in a chair inside a room, pondering the events of the past few days.
He had expected fierce battles, but he managed to capture three cities consecutively with surprising ease. Although the Knights of the Round Table were all powerful warriors, it should have required some effort.
"It is indeed strange. I initially suspected an ambush, but I didn't expect them to simply hand over the territories to us," said a clear voice beside Asher.
He turned his head to see Artoria sitting quietly next to him, deep in thought.
Having just returned from enemy territory, Artoria was still in her armor. Her helmet had just been removed, her long hair tied up, and beneath her heroic sword-like eyebrows, a pair of sharp eyes gave her a valiant appearance.
No wonder Morgan le Fay liked her younger sister so much... Asher thought. This girl was simply attractive to both genders.
Perhaps because she had secretly eaten some pastries before coming to find Asher, there were still some cake crumbs clinging to the corner of her mouth. This added a touch of cuteness to her otherwise heroic face, creating a charming contrast.
"Recovering lost territory is a good thing," Asher said, looking at Artoria. "But it's necessary to investigate the enemy's purpose. You've already told Sir Lancelot, haven't you?"
"I've already had him investigate the foreign tribes," Artoria nodded. "It's very strange; not only are there few people guarding the enemy territories, but even the enemy leaders are not in their own lands."
They had entered three cities so far, but without exception, no foreign tribal leader was found.
"It is truly strange... as if they've completely given up resistance," Asher paused. "However, with Sir Lancelot's help, we should be able to find some clues soon."
Lancelot was the strongest among the Knights of the Round Table. Having him assist with the investigation was reassuring.
"Before that, let's just wait for news." Asher let out a small yawn, tears welling in his eyes from tiredness.
Because of the foreign tribes' strange reaction, Asher had to temporarily halt the offensive. Attacking rashly without clarifying the enemy's objective could put their side in danger.
Artoria nodded slightly, looking at the sleepy Asher, and suddenly asked, "Speaking of which, have you been too lax lately?"
"Lax? Have I? I don't feel that way at all," Asher replied.
Artoria nodded earnestly. "You've been slacking off quite a bit during training. Although the record of repelling the foreign tribes over the past half-month has been excellent, you still shouldn't be too complacent."
Asher glanced at Artoria.
"Lily is really very strict."
"This is my duty as a court steward," Artoria replied seriously.
Asher nodded in agreement. He placed one hand near Artoria's mouth and used his finger to wipe away the bread crumbs clinging to her lips.
"I think someone with breadcrumbs still on their mouth isn't very convincing when they say that, Lily." Asher smiled gently, holding the crumbs on his thumb.
"Th-this was just because I was a little hungry when I came back..." Artoria's usually cool face showed rare embarrassment. "And I wasn't the only one who ate it; I also gave some to Stallion."
Wow, you gave the bread I made to a horse??
Asher tilted his head in disbelief, staring at Artoria.
Dún Stallion was the name Artoria had given to the white horse they had brought back half a month ago. To be precise, she named it Stallion, but since their march direction was east, Asher suggested calling it Dún Stallion.
Asher's surprise wasn't because Artoria gave bread to a horse; he was surprised that she would share food with others.
I never thought she would like that horse so much?
But then again, Dún Stallion was indeed worth raising like that.
After all, in current Britain, this horse was probably the best.
"I'm sorry, but I saw it seemed to want to eat bread then, so I fed it to try," Artoria said apologetically, thinking Asher was angry.
"That's nothing to worry about. I just didn't expect you to be so generous," Asher shook his head, not bothered.
"I've always been very generous, you should know that," Artoria replied somewhat unhappily.
Asher nodded and replied perfunctorily, "Mm-hmm, I know."
Artoria's cheek drew closer, her clear, bright eyes intently fixed on Asher.
"Are you really sure you know?"
Because her face was too close, Asher tilted his head back slightly to avoid her gaze.
"I said, it's just that you fed the pastries I made to a horse, I don't mind."
So, this girl really doesn't have any awareness of the difference between genders at all?
Doesn't she think their faces are too close right now?
If this were modern times, it would definitely be a casting couch situation!
Knock, knock.
A knock on the door sounded, and then a man entered the room.
"My King, the matter you asked me to investigate has yielded results..."
Lancelot entered and saw the scene before him.
The girl whose cheek was close to Asher, and Asher staring at her.
It looked like they were about to kiss.
"Hmm... I apologize, I'll come back in a bit," Lancelot said and turned to leave.
What exactly did he misunderstand me as?!
A pervert making a move on his own court steward?!
"No need, we were just discussing something." Asher forced himself to sound calm. "Let's talk about important matters first, Sir Lancelot, please take a seat."
Artoria appeared much calmer than Asher, seemingly unaware of the strange atmosphere, or perhaps she noticed but didn't care.
She perked up her ears, ready to listen attentively to Lancelot's report.
"According to the latest reconnaissance, we have received news."
Under Asher and Artoria's gaze, Lancelot continued, "The foreign tribes withdrew most of their troops from eleven cities several days ago. Now all their forces are concentrated in one place. In other words, they abandoned most of their territories and chose to settle in one corner."
Asher was stunned.
They're really just giving it away for free, aren't they?
