Fairy Tail: The Faint Smile in Earthland

Chapter 157: Chapter 157 - The Island and the Echo

📍 Tenrou Island → Magnolia Guild Hall

đź“… Early June, X791

The sea churned gently around Tenrou Island as sunlight spilled across the mossy cliffs. The protective barrier that had shielded it for seven years flickered once, then vanished with a breath-like sigh, releasing its ancient magic back into the world.

From the center of the island, the first to stir was Natsu. He burst from the earth like someone clawing out of a long dream.

"Man… longest nap ever!" he coughed, dragging a sleepy Happy up with him.

Happy blinked, wings fluttering. "Aye, sir! I thought we were stuck in dreamland forever!"

Lucy sat up slowly, her eyes already wet. "We're… alive? All this time?"

Gray stood beside her, looking down at his own hands. "Seven years…? It felt like no time at all."

Erza rose last. Her armor caught the morning light as her gaze swept across the landscape. "Fairy Sphere protected us. It froze time."

Just beyond the trees, the rescue team broke into the clearing.

Jet and Droy spotted Levy first. They sprinted.

"Levy!!"

Jet collapsed mid-run, overwhelmed. Droy reached her and pulled her into a hug, sobbing.

"You're here! We found you!"

Levy laughed through her tears, her voice shaking. "You idiots... You came."

Bisca and Alzack ran toward Lucy and Erza, weapons forgotten, tears already falling. Bisca grabbed Lucy and held her tight.

"We missed you so much…"

Alzack gripped Erza's gauntlet, voice barely steady. "We made it. We held on."

Max and Warren stood behind them, stunned. Warren pressed two fingers to his temple, scanning the island over and over, as if afraid it might disappear.

"They're real," he whispered. "All of them."

Tenrou Island was filled with sound—laughter, cries, relief that cracked like thunder after a long drought.

📍 Magnolia — Fairy Tail Guild Hall

Hours later, the guild was buzzing like a live wire. The tension was electric, thick with hope.

Outside, the rescued stood at the threshold.

Natsu looked at the door like it might vanish if he touched it. Lucy clutched her chest. Gray shifted from foot to foot, jaw tight. Erza took a breath… and nodded.

Then Natsu kicked the doors open.

"We're baaaaack!!!" he shouted, grinning wide enough to split the sky.

For a second, no one moved.

Then the room exploded.

Macao dropped his mug. Wakaba's pipe hit the floor. Nab shouted, but his voice was swallowed by the roar. Kinana covered her mouth, tears spilling.

Romeo froze where he stood—unable to breathe, unable to believe.

Then Natsu scooped him up in a hug so fierce it nearly cracked ribs.

"ROMEO! You're big! You even smell stronger!"

Romeo gasped and held on tight, tears blurring his vision. "You came back… I can't believe it. Welcome home…"

Gray nudged Natsu aside and ruffled Romeo's hair, eyes suspiciously red. "So… you became a swordsman now?"

Lucy hugged him next, tightly. "You kept the guild going. You kept believing when we couldn't."

Romeo's voice cracked. "Not just me. Teresa kept us alive. I just… carried her echo."

Erza came last. Her voice was soft. "Teresa… the one who walks the rooftops. You learned from her?"

Romeo nodded. "She taught me to stand. To strike when needed. But more than that… she taught me to guard the fire, even when no one sees it."

From behind the crowd, Makarov stepped forward, old hands trembling as they found Macao's. Their fingers locked silently.

"I tried," Macao whispered. "But it wasn't me who saved us. She... she never stopped fighting."

Makarov's voice was quiet, full of something deeper than thanks. "Then she deserves our gratitude. Not just as a guild master—but as a father."

Outside, unseen

A pale shape leaned against a distant rooftop.

Teresa.

She didn't move. Didn't speak. Her eyes reflected the light pouring from the open doors. She watched.

One hand touched the hilt of her blade—just once. A ghost of a touch. A wish left unsaid.

Inside, the guild exploded into sound and light.

Tears became laughter. Grief became celebration. Scars became stories. Every name called was answered.

Above them, Teresa turned and walked into the dusk.

She left nothing behind.

Nothing but an echo.

Romeo, still standing in the doorway, saw her go.

And deep in his chest, a truth burned steadily:

Even a blade forged in silence…

Can still guard a family it dares not join.
