Chapter 41: What Do You Mean by Fiore's Number One Guild?!
in bound for Magnolia, Makarov was fuming after learning that Moen had been ambushed by members of the Iron Forest guild.
The old man was notoriously protective of his own. The moment he heard the news, he immediately marked Iron Forest as a target for eradication.
Even though Moen hadn't been hurt—in fact, he'd made a little extra money—Makarov still took it personally.
"They need to understand… people from Fairy Tail aren't just anyone you can mess with!"
Makarov gritted his teeth. He hadn't made a move in the past few years, and it looked like some fools were beginning to forget who they were dealing with.
Back in his younger days, Makarov was known for his fiery temper. While age had mellowed him out, that gentleness was reserved only for the people of Fairy Tail.
When it came to enemies—those who dared to threaten Fairy Tail—Makarov would teach them the true meaning of fear.
"Looks like we're on the same page."
Moen smiled as he waved the file on Iron Forest in his hand.
Taking down Iron Forest wasn't just about completing the mission and defeating the so-called "Death God" Eligor—it was about sending a message. These dark guilds needed to learn to do their homework. Attacking someone from Fairy Tail was a mistake you only made once.
On that, Moen and Makarov were completely aligned. The message was simple:
Touch even a hair on a Fairy Tail wizard's head… and your entire guild will be erased from the map.
In the style of classic xianxia stories, Fairy Tail was essentially the Number One Sect of the Kingdom of Fiore. And when the Number One Sect's disciple got bullied while training outside? Naturally, the big boss would show up.
Except Fairy Tail didn't mess around with junior elders. No, they sent the oldest and strongest first—Makarov, the guild master himself.
And Makarov wasn't just the head of Fairy Tail—he was one of the top ten strongest wizards on the entire continent. Whoever dared provoke them was guaranteed to suffer.
For a newly-risen guild like Iron Forest, this was like stepping out of the tutorial zone and straight into a boss battle.
"Alright then! Once we drop you guys back at the guild, I'm going straight to their doorstep!"
Seeing the Iron Forest dossier in Moen's hands, Makarov leapt from his seat, rolling up his sleeves, clearly itching for a fight.
"Iron Forest? Just some no-name pests? They dare mess with Fairy Tail? Time for some serious punishment!"
"Hold on, we need to wait a bit. The Magic Council hasn't confirmed their exact location yet. But with those four prisoners, I bet we'll have an answer soon."
Moen tried to calm the fired-up guild master, who looked like he was ready to solo Iron Forest that very second.
Sure, Makarov could absolutely do it… but Moen wasn't going to let him. Eligor, the "Death God," was his target—he couldn't let Grandpa Makarov steal the spotlight.
"Let them enjoy their last few moments of peace."
Hearing that their location was still unknown, Makarov settled back into his seat.
Beside him, Wendy blinked her wide eyes, watching the back-and-forth between the elder and the younger wizard.
She could feel it—in their words, in their tone—the care they held for their guild, the deep concern they had for each other's safety.
It made Wendy even more eager. She wanted to join Fairy Tail. She wanted to be a part of that family.
Mystogan felt it too. You could tell what kind of guild Fairy Tail was just by looking at Makarov. It had to be a warm, genuine place.
While Wendy and Mystogan quietly built their expectations, the train finally pulled into Magnolia Station.
As the group stepped off the train, Wendy and Mystogan immediately sensed Fairy Tail's influence over the city.
The station was bustling with people, but locals warmly greeted Makarov, casually joked with Moen, and gave curious glances to Wendy and Mystogan—the two unfamiliar faces.
Everyone in town was already used to Fairy Tail taking in orphans and strays. It was just what they did.
Bathed in this friendly atmosphere, the group soon arrived at the guild hall.
Wendy stared at the grand building with its bold "Fairy Tail" emblem hanging proudly above. Her eyes were full of awe and excitement. At that moment, she even felt a little nervous.
"We're finally home."
Moen breathed a sigh of relief as he looked up at the guild's massive doors. He'd been out for quite a while—sleeping rough in the forest, surviving on whatever food he could scrounge.
He missed the hot meals.
He missed the soft bed.
There really was no place like home.
With a grin, Moen pushed open the guild doors—and the familiar chaotic noise of Fairy Tail immediately rushed out to greet him.
"Wah wah wah—look who's back!"
"Isn't that our young master Moen, out on his first big journey? How'd the job go?"
As soon as Moen pushed open the guild doors, Macao and Wakaba—the two resident uncles—immediately started teasing him, grinning as they spoke.
Everyone was clearly happy to see Moen return safely. Not that they'd been particularly worried about him.
Especially not Macao and Wakaba, who had each been in the guild for over a decade. They knew Makarov's habits well enough.
The moment Moen left on his mission, Makarov had conveniently vanished too. They didn't even have to ask—it was obvious he'd been tailing Moen in secret to keep an eye on him.
"Why are you two always here anyway? Don't you have jobs? How do you make money just drinking at the guild all day?"
Moen rolled his eyes, taking a playful jab at the two uncles. Then he stepped aside from the door and gestured for Mystogan and Wendy to come in.
"Let's welcome two new friends to Fairy Tail!"
Following behind Moen was Grandpa Makarov himself. As soon as he entered, he leapt up onto a table and made the announcement to the entire guild.
Everyone's attention turned to Wendy and Mystogan.
"Whoa! What an adorable little girl!"
The guild exploded.
Members from all sides, male and female alike, began exclaiming in delight, showering Wendy with compliments—"So cute!" "Absolutely adorable!"
As for Mystogan, he had already anticipated the attention. On the way here, he'd bought a mask and a hat, completely covering his face and head.
Everyone just assumed he was the shy, quiet type. No one made a fuss over him.
"This is Wendy! And this is Mystogan!"
Makarov first pointed to Wendy, whose cheeks were flushed bright red, and then to the fully covered Mystogan.
The guild members responded with enthusiastic cheers, chanting the two names over and over.
"Welcome to Fairy Tail!"
