Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Capture Operation
Location: Inside the Tower of Paradise
Erza felt it—the surge of immense magical power echoing from the tower's summit, followed by a violent tremor shaking the entire structure. Her heart pounded. Without hesitation, she quickened her pace up the winding stairs.
Suddenly—whoosh!
A razor-sharp slash of sword energy cut through the air just inches from her face. Instinctively, she dodged.
"Who's there? Show yourself!" she demanded, sword ready.
From the shadows emerged a tall woman clad in a flowing kimono, her long katana gleaming ominously. The clacking of wooden clogs filled the stairwell as she stepped forward with quiet grace.
"Fairy Queen, would you be so kind as to accompany this humble one?" The woman's voice was polite, but her eyes were cold steel.
"I'm Mikaruga Ikaruga, charged with escorting you."
Erza's eyes narrowed. "Enough talk. If you want me, come and get me."
Without warning, Ikaruga raised her blade and whispered, "Sakura, scatter!"
A storm of countless cherry blossom petals erupted—each petal a deadly blade, swirling around Erza in a blinding, slicing tempest.
"Adamantine Armor: Adamantine Barrier!"
A radiant shield enveloped Erza just in time.
Petals crashed relentlessly, etching shallow cuts into the barrier… deeper… until a loud crack shattered the defense.
The petals pierced through, lacerating her skin. Erza stumbled, knelt, bleeding but unbroken.
"Fairy Queen, your surrender is requested."
"Silence!"
She summoned her Black Dragon Armor, dark and fierce, igniting a battle aura.
Ikaruga smirked, katana poised. "Such a heavy aura, but it won't save you."
Erza surged forward in a blur, black blade flashing—strike after strike launched with lightning speed.
Yet Ikaruga's calm form blocked every attack, katana singing a song of steel.
"Your strength is great, but your weapon is but a tool. Focus elsewhere."
Frustrated, Erza switched armor—now Sonic Armor, granting breathtaking speed.
"Sonic Claw!"
She spun around Ikaruga, unleashing a flurry of twin blade strikes—too fast to track.
But Ikaruga stood serene, deflecting each blow with fluid precision.
"This is impossible!" Erza gasped.
Ikaruga's eyes gleamed with quiet confidence.
"My swordsmanship is 'Sword Heart Clarity'—I see with my heart, beyond eyes. Now, learn true swordsmanship."
She assumed an Iaijutsu stance.
"Moonless Style: Iai Flash!"
A lightning-fast draw and slash.
Erza's armor exploded into fragments.
"Your magic pales before my skill."
Erza's pride burned brighter.
"Re-Equip: Heaven's Wheel Armor!"
Twin swords drawn, hundreds of flying blades whirled like a storm.
"Moonless Style: Caress Slash!"
Ikaruga countered, blade dismantling sword after sword.
"Clumsy. Wasteful. You fight with noise, not grace."
Armor shredded, flying swords shattered, Erza's attacks met only fluid parries.
Ikaruga's form multiplied into thousands—Moonless Style: Sky Full of Raining Blades!
A deadly rain of slashes rained down, battering Erza relentlessly.
Wounds. Fatigue. Despair.
"Your heart falters, Fairy Queen. This battle is over."
Erza closed her eyes, breathing steady.
Memories flooded back—Escanor's words echoing true.
"The weapon grants power, but you wield the strength. True power comes from within."
With newfound clarity, Erza rose, blade slicing upward in a single, pure strike.
Ikaruga was blasted away, landing hard.
A flicker of respect passed between them.
"Re-Equip: Purity Armor."
Erza's stance changed—barefoot, bandaged, fierce.
"Ikaruga, round two."
Their swords danced—swift, seamless, like a storm and breeze entwined.
No magic—only pure, honed technique.
Suddenly—
A chilling voice broke through.
"Ikaruga~ Why haven't you finished this yet~?"
The duel paused as a pale man in cyberpunk garb stepped forward.
Blood-like marks traced his face; menace radiated from him.
"Why interrupt? Didn't I say no distractions?"
"Hehehe… Don't spoil Jellal's plan. Just use this."
He revealed a pulsating, heart-shaped object.
Erza's sword was ready.
"I refuse! I'll beat you with my own blade."
The man laughed, swallowing the heart.
His form convulsed—bone spurs erupted, hair writhed like living flames.
A dark, demonic aura engulfed him.
Ikaruga charged—
But the demonic surge overwhelmed her, forcing her to block desperately.
With a cruel smile, he seized her midair, crushing her with invisible force.
"Stop!"
Erza's blade flashed—cutting through the man's magic threads, freeing Ikaruga.
"Are you alright?" Erza asked.
"I'm fine. But he's deadly—escape if you can."
"We're not done yet."
Ikaruga laughed through her pain.
"As expected of the Fairy Queen! Let's deal with this impudent fool before resuming."
Together, they attacked.
"Moonless Style: Light Cloud Emerging from Moon!""Demonic Blade: Red Phoenix!"
But the demon absorbed their attacks with a twisted grin.
"What?!" they cried in unison.
With a flick, he unleashed their own powers back at them.
Caught off-guard, both women were struck by their own assaults.
Two thin strands of hair slipped unseen into their necks.
Darkness claimed them.
The demon seized Erza, preparing to vanish.
From the shadows, a familiar voice rang out—
"Soul Extinguisher!"
Dark shockwaves annihilated the creeping hair.
Mira appeared, eyes blazing.
"Quick! Take Erza to the top!"
The demon hissed, "Seems my employer can't wait."
He fled, strands of hair flying in retreat.
Mira's fists clenched tight.
"Not if I can help it…"
