Fairy, Don’t Be Afraid, I’m Blind

Chapter 143: I Am the Water God!

Chapter 143: I Am the Water God!

“Mm… Just leave it there for now. I’ll eat it later.”

You Su still hadn’t opened his eyes, clearly exhausted.

Yu Meng nodded with a faint smile and placed the translucent lotus seed porridge by the edge of the pool. She gazed at You Su’s bare upper body, her heart racing like a startled deer.

Over these days, You Su had become less resistant to her and her sister’s service, though he still maintained a deliberate distance between men and women.

Summoning her courage, she said:

“Young Master You must be weary from your efforts. Why not let Yu Meng massage your shoulders to relieve your fatigue?”

She braced herself for another rejection, but to her surprise, You Su simply murmured softly:

“Perhaps next time. It’s late tonight. You and Yu Long should rest early.”

You Su’s voice was no longer as distant as it had been during the first herbal bath. Yu Meng looked at him in astonishment, then lowered her head and murmured an acknowledgment. Her cheeks flushed red as she gracefully retreated.

As she backed away, she couldn’t help but marvel at her young mistress’s unparalleled charm. Even a blind man could be moved by her beauty.

Since entering the pool, You Su had maintained a polite demeanor, but Yu Meng could sense that his politeness was no longer a form of self-protection—it had become natural.

Indeed, true beauty doesn’t captivate the eyes; it captures the soul.

“I wonder when the young mistress plans to make her move… If she waits much longer, it might be too late.”

Yu Meng sighed softly to herself and left the chamber with her sister.

Meanwhile, You Su lay motionless in the herbal bath, eyes closed as he rested and reflected on his thoughts.

Suddenly, he felt an impulse—an urge to open his eyes and see something…

He opened them and indeed saw something unexpected!

Though he was currently in a state of blindness, with only vague outlines of the bath and screen visible, within the small porcelain bowl, he saw the spirit of the White Dragon Carp swimming incessantly!

Its body was nearly transparent, and it seemed hungry, happily flicking its tail while swallowing the nearly ten lotus seeds whole.

You Su’s pupils contracted instantly into pinpoints! So it hadn’t vanished after colliding with his body—it had been hiding nearby all along!

You Su recalled his second question to the Holy Maiden, who had responded that “White Dragon Carps capable of refining souls haven’t been seen in a hundred years.”

If this little white fish wasn’t a spirit, and the Evil Repelling Token hadn’t reacted to it, then what exactly was it? And why could he see it?

The little white fish paid no heed to You Su’s puzzled gaze, indulging in its meal. Its black-and-white eyes darted around, making it appear somewhat adorably clumsy.

There was no trace of danger emanating from it. You Su tentatively reached out, touching its back. It seemed annoyed at being disturbed during its meal and wriggled its body to evade his hand.

You Su was surprised. He had assumed that this little white fish, which could regenerate after being cut in two by his sword, was intangible. Yet, his fingers felt a clear, icy touch, like touching a block of ice.

You Su didn’t dwell on the fact that it had eaten all the food the Holy Maiden had prepared for him. Instead, he focused on figuring out what this fish truly was.

After devouring all the lotus seeds, the little white fish ignored the remaining slices of silver ear fungus and cordyceps in the porridge. Seemingly full, it opened and closed its lips twice before swimming out of the bowl.

Its movement didn’t require water for support. Rather than flying, it treated the entire world as a vast aquatic realm, freely roaming through it.

You Su felt a strange connection, slowly raising his hand. The little white fish seemed to express gratitude for the feeding by circling his fingertips, looking utterly adorable.

You Su had never encountered such a mystical creature and couldn’t help but tease it. The little white fish darted around, evading his playful prodding. Eventually, irritated, it glared at You Su and released a tiny bubble as a warning.

You Su chuckled softly and popped the slowly approaching bubble, as if to demonstrate the vast difference between them and discourage further resistance.

But the moment the bubble burst, the scene before You Su’s eyes changed dramatically. The finger-sized white fish suddenly grew to over ten feet long, almost filling the entire bathroom as it floated in the air.

“Foolish human! How dare you treat this Water God with such disrespect!”

A childlike voice rang out abruptly, its innocence masking any anger.

Who’s speaking?

You Su stared incredulously at the enormous fish head before him. Surely it couldn’t be it?

“It is I, the Water God, speaking!”

The massive, swimming fish exuded immense pressure, but the childish voice undermined its intimidation.

“Don’t pretend to be divine. There are no gods in this world—only immortals.”

“Hmph! Ignorant fool!”

“If you’re truly a god, show me some proof. Otherwise, how can I believe you?”

You Su remained unruffled. Though the fish appeared enormous, it still posed no real threat to him.

To test his hypothesis, he reached out to touch the gigantic fish. This time, there was no solid sensation—his hand passed right through it.

“How dare you! Show respect!” The little white fish seemed agitated, twisting its body to avoid his hand.

“Do even gods resort to such crude illusions?” You Su found it amusing. “Was that bubble earlier your attempt at creating an illusion?”

It was easy to deduce that the little fish, annoyed by his teasing, had tried to drag him into a frightening illusion by suddenly increasing its size hundreds of times to intimidate him. Unfortunately, its childish voice failed to evoke any real threat.

“Don’t underestimate me! My divine power has merely waned. Once I recover fully, I’ll make Mount Meng crumble under my will—believe it or not!”

The big white fish continued to glare at You Su, threatening fiercely.

Looking at the fish’s adorable appearance, You Su dismissed its bluster as mere posturing.

“Alright, I believe you, noble Water God.”

“You’d better believe it.” The big white fish was pleased by the word “noble,” its tone softening significantly.

“Esteemed Water God, you’ve eaten all my food. How will you compensate me?”

The big white fish glanced at the nearly empty porcelain bowl and replied sheepishly:

“Just a few lotus seeds. Do you really expect compensation for that? In the past, I wouldn’t have even glanced at such things.”

“If you look down on them, return them to me.”

“How stingy can one human be? In the old days, my subjects offered me their finest treasures, begging for a shred of my power. Eating a few of your lotus seeds is an honor!”

“I’m not your subject. Can gods just take others’ food? Fine, answer a few questions, and I’ll let this slide.”

“You’re not worthy of being my subject. Ask quickly.”

You Su thought for a moment and asked, “What exactly are you?”

“I am the Water God!!”

You Su had expected this answer and pressed further: “Why were you hiding inside the White Dragon Carp that day?”

“Some rebels sought to slay a god—I had to flee.”

“Slay a god? Could you really escape?”

You Su doubted that this intelligent little white fish could evade capture if someone truly sought to hunt it.

“Alas, Old Bai was my greatest general. He sacrificed his life to help me escape. We were so close to freedom, but fate intervened when you blocked our path and killed Old Bai. Poor Old Bai! I’ll avenge you!”

Pity this fish couldn’t shed tears, or You Su might have believed it was genuinely grief-stricken.

“So, am I feeding a tiger with my own flesh?” You Su asked coldly.

“Not at all… Just give me a few more lotus seeds, and we’ll call it even…”

You Su was merely scaring it. Furrowing his brows, he asked:

“The White Dragon Carp carried you from Jade Ring Lake to the outside. Was there a hidden passage beneath the lake?”

“A hidden passage? Gods travel openly—who would use hidden paths?”

“The two lakes are isolated. Without hidden paths, how did you cross the mountains?”

“Hmph! Didn’t I tell you not to underestimate me? Of course, it was…”

Pop! Like a bursting bubble, the giant white fish abruptly reverted to its original small size.

It lay in You Su’s palm, its color noticeably faded and its eyes dull, seemingly drained of energy.

This little white fish couldn’t actually speak human words—the voice had been part of the earlier illusion.

You Su frowned. Why had it stopped just as they reached the critical point? It seemed that to prolong their conversation next time, he’d need to prepare more food.

But finding fish food at the level of jade lotus seeds wouldn’t be easy…

The weakened little white fish was docile and harmless. You Su examined it closely and formed his conclusion:

This intelligent white fish was likely an evolved form of the White Dragon Carp. Calling itself a “Water God” was its arrogant way of asserting dominance over its less evolved kin. When discovered by the people of Jade Ring Lake, it had attempted to escape using the strength of its kindred to avoid being captured.

Suddenly, the little white fish shook its head, propped up its body, and shot off as a streak of white light, vanishing without a trace.

Even with his vision restored, You Su couldn’t locate it. Wherever it had gone, it was well-hidden.
