Chapter 261 Desperate Gamble
Another week had passed, and Derek still had no luck with Sophia.
A few days ago, he confronted her in the library, asking if she had received his text.
Sophia casually replied that she'd been too busy to notice it.
Frustrated but undeterred, he tried texting her again—no reply.
Changing tactics, he reached out to Jasmine but received the same cold treatment.
"Should I go for a different girl? Althea Quinn, perhaps?" Derek mused.
He knew the famous actress was currently in Parkland City, and, like Sophia, she was linked to the same man who had stolen Sophia's heart.
The two had been spotted together numerous times by paparazzi, but getting close to them was impossible.
With hundreds of bodyguards guarding their every move, even a mosquito would have trouble getting near.
In the end, Derek persevered. He refused to let his string of failures discourage him. By the weekend, however, he decided to try a new approach.
"Let's see if she doesn't reply when she sees my little brother," he muttered to himself, half-joking and half-nervous.
He tried to convince himself this was a bold, confident move, but deep down, he knew it was a desperate gamble.
From experience, he knew this tactic only worked when he was already friendly with his target—someone who was open to flirting or had already shown interest.
Unfortunately, his relationship with Sophia was far from that. They barely knew each other.
Sure, they exchanged pleasantries and short chats in the library, but that hardly counted as a connection.
He didn't know her likes, dislikes, or even her favorite color. They were acquaintances at best.
And yet, here he was, hoping that a single picture would do what weeks of effort hadn't—get her attention and, if he played his cards right, steal her away from her boyfriend.
"Here goes nothing," Derek muttered, taking a deep breath.
With trembling fingers, he touched himself, angling his phone to capture the perfect shot of his massive erection.
After scrutinizing the picture for a moment, he nodded in satisfaction and hit "Send."

Ding!
Sophia's phone vibrated on the dining table, catching Ross's attention.
It was dinnertime, and the table was filled with a variety of dishes, as usual.
Ross wasn't overly curious—Sophia's phone going off wasn't exactly unusual—but her reaction was.
When she unlocked her phone and saw the message, her eyes widened.
A sudden urge to laugh bubbled up inside her, so strong and unexpected that she almost choked on her food.
"What's so funny, bestie?" Jasmine asked, her curiosity piqued.
She and Sophia were practically joined at the hip, always sitting next to each other and sharing everything.
Jasmine leaned in closer, noticing the way Sophia's lips twitched as she fought to suppress her laughter.
"It's nothing," Sophia said, still smiling as she grabbed a napkin to wipe her mouth.
She tried to sound casual, but her reaction only made Jasmine more suspicious.
"Don't 'nothing' me," Jasmine said, narrowing her eyes.
"You're clearly holding back. Let me see!" She extended her hand, her tone leaving no room for argument.
After a moment's hesitation, Sophia sighed and handed over her phone.
Jasmine's eyes scanned the screen, and her jaw dropped.
"What the…?" She quickly covered her mouth, her face a mix of shock and disbelief.
Her reaction, of course, drew the attention of everyone else at the table.
"What's going on?" one of Ross's girlfriends asked, leaning over.
"Come on, share!" another chimed in.
"Fine, but don't say I didn't warn you," Jasmine said, reluctantly passing the phone around.
One by one, the women at the table saw Derek's unsolicited picture, each reacting in their own way.
Some gasped, others cringed, and a few couldn't help but burst out laughing.
"This guy seriously thought this would work?" one of them said, shaking her head in disbelief.
"Does he not know how to pursue a girl the right way?" another added, rolling her eyes.
Meanwhile, Ross sat silently, his sharp gaze flicking between the women as they passed Sophia's phone around like it was the day's hottest gossip.
Though he didn't speak, the slight twitch of his jaw and the glint in his eyes made it clear he wasn't amused.
Sophia, on the other hand, was torn between amusement and embarrassment.
"Okay, okay, that's enough," she said, reclaiming her phone. She quickly deleted the message, hoping to put the whole thing behind her.
But Jasmine wasn't done.
"You have to admit, though, this is hilarious. Like, what was his endgame here?"
"I have no idea. He should probably think that I'd spread my legs for him now that I saw his dick," Sophia admitted, shaking her head with a bemused smile.
The table erupted into laughter again, but Ross remained silent, his expression darkening.
Somewhere, Derek was probably waiting anxiously for a reply, completely unaware of the storm he had just unleashed.
An hour later, Derek's phone beeped, breaking the silence in his room.
He had been sitting on the edge of his bed, nervously glancing at his phone every few minutes, hoping for a miracle.
When he saw the notification light up, his heart skipped a beat. His eyes widened as he read the sender's name: Sophia Ashcroft.
"No way!" he whispered, his excitement building. He quickly snatched up his phone, his fingers fumbling as he unlocked it.
The realization hit him all at once—Sophia had actually responded.
The sheer fact that she hadn't ignored him sent a rush of adrenaline coursing through his veins.
"Yes!" Derek shouted, pumping his fist in the air. His voice echoed in the small room as he leapt to his feet, grinning like an idiot.
He was so elated that he almost dropped the phone, but he caught it just in time.
"I knew it would work!" he said to himself, already imagining how the conversation would unfold.
With shaking hands, he tapped on the message, his mind racing with possibilities.
Would it be a playful tease? A compliment? Maybe even a bold invitation to meet up?
But as the message opened, all the excitement drained from his face in an instant.
