Volume 1 Chapter 62 - Room Sharing
I started living with Kaede-chan. Officially, it’s called room-sharing, but to me, it’s cohabitation.
We had just moved in, eaten our moving-in soba, and were now relaxing on the sofa in front of the TV.
“Sofas are really something, aren’t they?”
Neither my previous home nor my parents’ house had a sofa.
“Right? By the way, is Nanaka-chan okay?”
Kaede-chan asked, referring to the recent kidnapping of Nanapon, which I had briefly explained earlier.
“She’s fine. No injuries. Claire protected her, and the kidnappers were just small fry. I made quick work of them with my sword.”
In reality, Harry had killed them.
“I had no idea he’d use a healing potion for the finishing blow. All my effort went to waste.”
“Hmm, you’re casually saying something extreme. But if Nanaka-chan is safe, that’s good. Will there be more assassins?”
“Who knows? If they come, they’ll probably be from another country. It depends on how much Harry and Claire do. But we’re safe as long as we’re in Frontier.”
Harry and Claire are somewhat unreliable, but they are A-rank former soldiers. They’ll handle it when the time comes.
“Please be careful.”
“I get it. I wanted to show you my sword skills.”
“I don’t want to see them. Nanaka-chan complained about you being too eager to decapitate people.”
“Come on, I wouldn’t actually decapitate anyone… This is bad. I might get labeled as a beheader or a killer. I don’t need that kind of reputation.”
“Maybe I should switch to a spear.”
“Can you use one?”
“I haven’t tried, but if I practice…”
“Please stick to your sword. You have Level 5 in swordsmanship. Changing now would be dangerous.”
“But look at this.”
I took Eleanor’s status card from her bag and showed it to Kaede-chan.
“Her swordsmanship is Level 6. It’ll probably reach 7 soon… What!?”
“Amazing, right? Eleanor has Level 6 in swordsmanship!”
“That’s unheard of… Aren’t you hiding it?”
“A-ranks usually have it. Harry’s is 3 and Claire’s is 2.”
“I don’t think it’s that easy to level up.”
“More like it’s coming back to me. I’ve killed a lot of High Skeletons recently.”
“Wow, you’re amazing. I had no swordsmanship skills.”
“What was your adventurer job?”
“I was a Rogue. I scouted and guided.”
“Seems low-level.”
“You’ll need someone like me in mid-level areas. But Nanaka-chan will probably handle it.”
“True, but as long as Nanapon hates me, I’ll have to go with Eleanor. No parties for me. Just the two of us.”
“I feel like she hates Okita-kun more now than she did before. As she gets closer to Eleanor, she seems to dislike Okita-kun more.”
“God, why is this happening?”
“Please take care of her. She’s only 19.”
“When I was 19, I was up all night playing Mahjong.”
“I was having fun too. But Nanaka-chan is probably having more fun than us. She’s cheating on her tests with her X-ray vision.”
“That would be useful.”
“What would you use it for?”
“Tests are a thing of the past… Hmm.”
“Oh, never mind. I figured it out when you looked at me.”
“Typical guy. So, what would you use it for?”
“Probably for lottery tickets.”
“Money, huh? Makes sense.”
“Anyway, it’s good that someone like Nanapon has it. She won’t misuse it.”
“She’s cheating on her tests, which is pretty bad. But she’s talented and will use it to protect you, so I’ll overlook it.”
“I’ll train her since she’s my disciple.”
“You really took her as your disciple?”
“She vomited that she’s Eleanor’s disciple when she got caught. So it was decided that she’s my disciple too.”
“Usually, people would deny any involvement. Why did she admit it so readily? That’s probably why she didn’t get hurt.”
“Please get along. Trust is important in adventures.”
“I know.”
“I wish I could’ve adventured with you, Kaede-chan.”
“What will you do next? Auctions or adventures?”
“I’ll pause the auctions and prioritize my contract with Claire.”
“Is it for Level 2 healing potions?”
“Yes, and selling a 1000-kilo item bag for 10 billion privately.”
“10 billion? Why?”
“It’s a reward for rescuing Nanapon. I gave her a discount from 12 billion. It would have been 9.6 billion after fees. 10 billion is a good deal.”
“Maybe you’ll get more private requests.”
“I’ll think about it then. I heard Mie-san wants to buy an item bag. There might be more requests from A-ranks.”
“Okay. What about adventures?”
“I’ll continue in Diana Mines with Nanaka-chan. But I’m also considering solo adventures as Okita-kun.”
“You haven’t gone on any solo adventures. You should.”
“Exactly. And I can’t be lower-leveled than my disciple.”
“You really are like that, aren’t you?”
“You told me to become A-rank. At least let me be D-rank.”
“To be D-rank, defeat 100 skeletons.”
“That sounds like a game mission.”
“It is. And you haven’t cleared today’s daily mission.”
“You’re cute today, Kaede-chan.”
“Daily mission cleared. Your reward is a beer from the fridge.”
“Your daily mission?”
“I’m wearing a shorter skirt than usual.”
“True. It’s above the knee.”
“I thought you’d like it.”
“Daily mission cleared. Your reward is beer.”
“Let’s drink.”
We decided to drink in the afternoon for completing our silly daily missions.
When night came, we ate dinner prepared by Kaede-chan, took baths, and returned to our rooms to unpack.
The clock ticked past 11.
“Alright, time for the real daily mission!”
I grabbed a pillow and stood in front of Kaede-chan’s room. I reached for the doorknob and pulled.
It was locked.
“So she locked it, huh… So this is what room-sharing is like.”
