Volume 1 Chapter 55 - Dilapidated Potion Room
On Monday, I went adventuring in Frontier with Nanapon. Although we didn’t level up, it seemed like we were about to.
On Tuesday, I cleaned my room. I mainly focused on the water fixtures and stored unnecessary items and out-of-season winter clothes in my item bag.
On Wednesday, as promised, I went to Frontier with Nanapon. However, we ended up talking mostly about the auction and didn’t do much monster hunting.
On Thursday, I finished the remaining cleaning and went shopping. I went to buy a bed for my new room. I initially thought of buying a double bed as Kaede-chan had suggested, but it was too big, so I gave up on that idea.
Then came Friday, the final day of the auction, and the day Kaede-chan was supposed to come in the evening.
I woke up early, continued cleaning, went shopping, and killed time. In the evening, I received a message from Kaede-chan with a heart emoji, saying, “I’ve finished work, so I’ll head over after I go home.”
See? What do you call this if not a girlfriend? Take note, Nanapon.
Knowing that Kaede-chan was coming, I changed from my tracksuit into more suitable outdoor clothes and waited. Shortly after 7 PM, the doorbell rang.
I rushed to the entrance and opened the door. Standing there was Kaede-chan, not in her guild uniform but wearing a white knit top and a light green long skirt.
“You look cute as always after a hard day,” I said, completing my usual daily mission.
“Hehe, thank you. Oh, here you go.”
Kaede-chan passed me a plastic supermarket bag with a joyful smile. As expected, it contained ready-made dishes.
“Thanks. Come on in, you must be cold.”
I invited Kaede-chan into my home.
“Yes, it’s been chilly in the mornings and evenings lately.”
Kaede-chan replied, sitting down in the room.
“True that.”
“Wow, you’ve really cleaned up. It was already a pretty sparse room, but now it’s practically empty.”
Kaede-chan looked around the room. I had tidied up a lot this week, so it looked much cleaner.
“Well, I’ll finish the cleaning tomorrow and probably move the day after that. How about you, Kaede-chan?”
“I have the day off tomorrow and the day after, so I’ll move tomorrow and prepare the room the day after.”
That’s quick.
“Weren’t you busy with work? What about your own packing?”
“I’ve always kept things neat, and with the item bag, it’s quick.”
Right, she did say she liked cleaning.
“So you’ll be living there first?”
“Yes, I’ll be waiting with dinner.”
She’s such a good girl. So cute.
“I’ll probably be there by noon. See you then.”
“Okay!”
Good, good.
“Oh, Kaede-chan, could you stop telling Nanapon all kinds of stuff? She’s been making fun of me.”
“I didn’t tell her anything untrue. I thought I’d give her a warning. She’s only 19 and could do something reckless or brag to others and end up unhappy. Kids that age usually don’t listen to direct advice, so I used you as a cautionary tale.”
…She’s incredible.
“So you made me a clown. Fair enough, I was a good cautionary example.”
“Actually, you were terrible. When I realized that you and Elenoa-san had the same bag and phone, I was utterly astonished.”
I got carried away.
“Getting dazzled by a large sum of money can make you lose focus.”
“That’s why I warned her, especially since she seemed pretty excited about this auction.”
True, Nanapon is estimated to earn around 1.5 billion. Anyone would get excited.
“Are you watching?”
Kaede-chan asked without specifying the subject, but I knew what she meant.
“I am. It’s already exceeded 8 billion.”
There are still 5 hours left until the auction ends, and it’s already exceeded the estimated amount.
“Even if it’s 8 billion, that’s 16 billion for both. Minus fees and Nanapon’s share, your part would be 13 billion.”
“That’s insane…”
It’s an unthinkable amount.
“We could live in leisure for the rest of our lives.”
“If it were just me, sure.”
But there’s also Kaede-chan. For one person it would be more than enough, but for two people wanting to live luxuriously, it might not be.
“Are we still going?”
Kaede-chan is talking about Elenoa-san’s exit.
“Let’s go as far as we can.”
“Timing is crucial, you know?”
Kaede-chan placed her hand on mine.
“I know. But not now. People still see Elenoa-san as a mysterious witch. The dangerous part will be when people find out about my alchemy skills.”
Everyone knows that Elenoa-san is not just farming slimes, but they don’t know how. That’s why they can’t touch Elenoa-san.
“Shall we aim for 100 billion then?”
100 billion. An unimaginable figure.
“Let’s do it. It will be a problem figuring out how to use all that money.”
“Let’s go for it!”
“Alright! Let’s drink.”
“Okay!”
Kaede-chan and I started drinking canned beer while watching the auction and snacking on the dishes she brought.
