Volume 1 Chapter 45 - Report
I open Harry’s address saved on my smartphone and press the call button.
Then, I switch to speaker mode, and the ringing sound echoes from the smartphone.
“Hello?”
It’s Harry’s voice.
“Hey, Harry. Long time no see.”
I greet him in a lighthearted, foreigner-like manner.
“I thought it was an unknown number, but it’s you. Isn’t it early? Something happened?”
“Big issue. Is Claire there?”
“She’s watching your guild.”
That’s true, her skill is perfect for inconspicuous surveillance.
“What about you?”
“I’m on standby at the hotel. Just like you told me, I’m studying the geography.”
“Well, you’re having a tough time.”
“It’s a good time since Claire isn’t around.”
“What? Something you can’t tell Claire?”
“Not exactly, but the issue is her unique skill.”
“The perception inhibition?”
“Exactly. It’s scary thinking she might peek into the bathroom or toilet.”
Claire is a woman, but still…
“Haha! No way. She doesn’t have such hobbies. It’s just perception inhibition. You’ve already recognized her, so you’ll notice if you pay attention. It’s mostly effective against strangers.”
I see. It’s not like she’s invisible. Then it’s not a problem.
“That’s a relief. I thought she might be right next to me.”
“I’d like that, but you’d disappear instantly. The other day, I thought you went into the alley, but you were gone. What was that?”
I just drank an invisibility potion.
“I’m a ghost.”
“Haha! … Seriously?”
Harry’s tone drops.
“Just kidding. Bye! Work hard!”
I say that and end the call.
“It should be fine.”
I put my phone back in my bag and look at Kaede-chan.
“What’s the likelihood of him lying?”
“That musclehead doesn’t have the brains for it. He answered straightforwardly, didn’t he?”
I was planning to give him a potion or something to get the answer out of him, but he answered normally.
“Well, it seemed that way. So, we’re somewhat relieved for now?”
“I think so. I’m still in danger though, so I won’t go outside much. Ah, I’ll go back to Okita-kun.”
“Ah, Senpai, I’ll go back to the guild and report to the guild master.”
As I stand up, Kaede-chan stops me and stands up too. She’s wearing her guild uniform.
“Eh… Let’s drink together.”
“…It’s overtime.”
Ah…
“Sorry. Do your best…”
“I will. Oh, by the way, let’s go see the room together the day after tomorrow. I got a call from the real estate agent.”
Ooh! Living together!
“Sounds good. Let’s go the day after tomorrow.”
“Yes!”
Kaede-chan nods with a very cute smile and leaves the house.
I feel lonely… I should go back to Okita-kun.
“And that’s why Senpai is safe.”
Akasaka-san, who went to see Okita-san’s house, returns to the guild and reports to the guild master that Elenora-san is safe. I was waiting in the guild master’s room.
“That’s a relief for now. But Okita-kun lacks a sense of crisis…”
The guild master looks relieved but immediately looks annoyed.
“I think he’s confident in his swordsmanship. After all, he’s level 5.”
“It’s unbelievable for a rookie to be level 5… Is he really that amazing?”
“I haven’t adventured with him, and I haven’t seen him in action. But that man used to say things like, ‘I can cut this electric pole’ when he was drunk.”
He’s the worst.
“He’s really a dangerous guy.”
“Well, I think he just wanted to show off. Senpai is like that.”
“Hmm… Well, if you say so, Nanapon. How is he during adventures? You’re the one who goes on adventures with him.”
The guild master asks, and I can’t refuse. It’s all Okita-san’s fault.
“He is impressive. He cuts invisible High Skeletons normally, and at some point, he started beheading them unnecessarily.”
I wish he’d stop that. Even if they’re skeletons, they’re humanoid. It makes me imagine unnecessary things.
“Alright, I got it. He can protect himself… But are they really Claire Walker and Harry Baker?”
The guild master checks again.
“Yes, I think so. He said he saw their status cards and checked their faces on the spot with his smartphone.”
“Then it’s confirmed… They’re top adventurers in America’s A-rank, after all.”
“Yes… It’s scary that Senpai threatens such people so easily.”
I’m also scared. In many ways.
“Kaede, you control him here. Nanapon, you control him in the frontier.”
“Understood.”
Akasaka-san confidently nods.
“I wonder if I can control him…”
I have no confidence.
“It’s okay, Nanapon. If he tries to do something reckless, say you’re not confident. He’s an adult, 26 years old; he’ll consider you.”
Right, he’s 26… I didn’t realize because he’s so mentally young.
“Why is he so childlike?”
“Adventurers are like that. Normal adults take normal jobs.”
When I tried to blame Okita-san, I got damaged too.
“Yeah, that’s true…”
I decided to become an adventurer because I thought it was an easy way to make money. Yeah, I’m a child. But the other day, I got an enormous allowance from Elenora-san. She’s a good person and cool.
“Well, it’s profitable and fun.”
The former A-rank adventurer nods.
“Yes, I’ll do my best with Elenora-san!”
I don’t like Okita-san, but Elenora-san is fine!
“Alright… Now I have to move too.”
The guild master says and stands up.
“Ooh! Guild Master! Finally, you’re going to work!”
Seeing Akasaka-san so happy, it seems like he usually doesn’t work.
“Well, if it involves America’s A-rank adventurers, I have to report to the director.”
“Huh?”
“Is that all?”
I inadvertently ask.
“The subordinates will move. I report to the top and instruct the bottom. That’s what a responsible person does.”
I’m still a college student, and I don’t understand, but it seems quite easy.
“Good luck!”
From Akasaka-san’s happy reaction, it seems like he usually does less than this. In other words, he really doesn’t do anything.
“I wish you the best.”
The guild master leaves the room.
“Please take care of Senpai, Nanaka-chan.”
When we’re alone, Akasaka-san asks me.
“Ah, well, yes. I’ll do my best.”
I haven’t really done much. I’ve mostly just been watching.
“And sorry for getting you involved.”
This person is good. A very good person. She doesn’t call me Nanapon.
“No, I also have a share… By the way, what’s your share, Akasaka-san?”
The guild master probably takes a lot of fees. But what about her?
“I don’t have one. I’m just a receptionist.”
Well, that might be true.
“But you’re crossing dangerous bridges, aren’t you?”
“It’s okay. Senpai’s money is my money.”
…I take it back. She’s a bad person.
“Um, what do you think of him?”
“Hm? He’s my college senior.”
“Eh… You’re going to live together, right?”
“It’s room sharing.”
…Isn’t that the same? I don’t understand love or room sharing, having no experience in either.
“Aren’t you scared?”
“Why would I be?”
“Well, you’re living with a man… You know, you might get taken advantage of.”
“It’s fine either way…”
Eh…
“You’re promiscuous…”
Such a cute face, yet so promiscuous. She’s a real adult.
“Don’t say I’m promiscuous. It’s not with just anyone. If it’s Senpai, it’s fine.”
Oh?
“Do you like him?”
She said he was just a college senior earlier. Well, she didn’t comment on liking or disliking him…
“Normally, yeah.”
“Um, can I ask what you like about him?”
From what I’ve heard, there’s nothing good about him. Oh, maybe it’s the money!
“Well, he’s a fun person, and… ”
…She’s gone silent.
Is that all?
“So, it’s the money?”
“No, that’s not important. If worst comes to worst, I was thinking of feeding him. He even said he’d become my freeloader if he lost his job.”
That man is the worst. I hate him.
“Is that so… You’re not dating, right?”
“We haven’t had that conversation.”
“I don’t get it.”
“If he proposes, maybe. But there’s no sign of that. He said he’d make me a housewife and wants kids.”
My head hurts trying to understand.
Let’s not get involved!
“Okay… Best wishes!”
It’s a world I don’t understand.
“Thanks. I’ll live a fun life; I have the money.”
Do as you please. Oh, but I can also earn money to live a fun life. Let’s do our best with Elenora-san!
“That’s nice.”
“But Nanaka-chan… Stop stalking.”
What’s she talking about? I don’t understand what she’s saying at all.
