Chapter 13: CHAPTER :13
(the truth)
As they pulled up to Dee's home, Rayyan gently helped her out of the car, his hand lingering on hers as she stepped onto the driveway. Dee leaned into him, still feeling a bit fragile from her hospital stay. Rayyan wrapped his arm around her waist, holding her close as they walked towards the house.
Once inside, Rayyan guided Dee to her bedroom, his eyes never leaving hers as he helped her lie down on the bed. "Rest now," he whispered, his voice low and soothing. Dee nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her as Rayyan's fingers brushed against her forehead, gently sweeping her hair aside.
In the kitchen, Rayyan busied himself cutting up fresh fruit, his movements quiet and efficient. When he returned to the bedroom, he sat down beside Dee, a plate of sliced apples and grapes in his hand. "Eat something," he coaxed, holding out a slice of apple to her lips.
Dee shook her head, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't want to eat right now." Rayyan's expression was gentle but firm. "Please, Dee. You need to take your medicine. That's all I can do for you now. I want you to get better."
Dee's eyes met Rayyan's, and she saw the concern and care shining in his gaze. She took a small bite of the apple, the sweetness and crunch a welcome comfort. As she ate, Rayyan's eyes never left hers, his face soft with affection.
When she finished, Rayyan handed her a glass of water and her medicine. "Take this," he said, his voice low and gentle. Dee obeyed, feeling a sense of gratitude towards him. As she lay back down, Rayyan settled beside her, his arm wrapped around her waist.
"Sleep now," he whispered, his breath warm against her ear. Dee closed her eyes, feeling safe and protected in his presence. She knew she was in good hands with Rayyan, and that thought filled her with a sense of peace.
Dee walked downstairs, her eyes scanning the room for Rayyan. She spotted him sitting on the couch, his voice low and urgent as he spoke on the phone. "You have to take the things from the lab. I want the experiments to stop. I know how much it hurt. I don't want anyone to suffer more."
Dee approached him, her curiosity piqued. "Which lab?" she asked, but Rayyan quickly ended the call, his expression unreadable. "Nothing," he said, his tone dismissive.
Dee's eyes narrowed. "Don't tell a lie, Rayyan. I know about your powers. You tell me about it yourself. I wanna know everything."
Rayyan's gaze met hers, and he seemed to hesitate for a moment before speaking. "The truth will hurt you," he said softly.
Dee's expression was resolute. "The truth always hurts, but I still want to know it. It's better than beautiful lies."
Rayyan took a deep breath before beginning to speak. "King created a lab where he conducted experiments on children. He gave them serums to enhance their abilities, training them to become something more. But it was all just a twisted game. He would pair them up, have them mate, and then take their children away. The parents were... eliminated. And the children were modified, their abilities amplified."
Dee's eyes widened in horror as she listened to Rayyan's words. She couldn't believe that King, the man she thought of as a father figure, was capable of such atrocities. She felt like she'd been punched in the gut, her breath knocked out of her.
"How could he?" she whispered, her voice trembling with shock and devastation.
Rayyan's arms wrapped around her, holding her close as she began to collapse. "I'm sorry, Dee. I know this is a lot to take in."
Dee's body shook with sobs as she processed the truth. She felt like her whole world had been turned upside down, and she didn't know how to process it all. Rayyan's arms were the only thing holding her together.
As Dee gathered herself, her mind reeled with questions. "Wait, you have powers too. So, that means your parents...?" she started to ask, her voice trembling slightly.
Rayyan cut her off, his expression somber. "No, they're alive and normal. They know about the lab, and they claim some experiments were performed on them, but they used a secret method to reverse the effects. I still inherited the... skills, though."
Dee's eyes narrowed, her skepticism evident. "So, your parents know about this. Rayyan, I'm thinking that what if it's all a lie? I would never believe King would do something like that. Wait, why would you believe me? You know me because of King, right?"
Rayyan's gaze was intense. "Well, yes, I know you because of King. But I did a background check on you, and I had people... keep an eye on you. I know your every move."
Dee's face fell, her eyes widening in shock. "What? You stalked me?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Rayyan's expression was apologetic, but Dee could see the calculation in his eyes. "Sorry, I had to," he said simply.
Dee felt a pang of hurt and betrayal, but she pushed it aside, focusing on the bigger picture. "Rayyan, do you really trust me?" she asked, her voice sincere.
Rayyan's gaze met hers, and for a moment, Dee thought she saw a glimmer of uncertainty. "I do," he said finally, but his tone was unconvincing.
Dee's eyes locked onto his, searching for the truth. "The truth," she pressed, her voice firm.
Rayyan's expression softened slightly. "I'm not sure. But I believe that if you were involved in this, you'd know about it, and you might have powers too."
Dee's heart skipped a beat as Rayyan's words hung in the air. She felt a shiver run down her spine as he asked his next question.
"Wait, Dee. I wanna ask something. Do you really have no powers?" he asked, his eyes intense.
Dee shook her head, her mind racing. "No, why would I have powers?"
Rayyan's gaze never left hers. "Because when I tried to read your mind or compel you towards me, it didn't work. You have an immunity to my powers."
Dee's eyes widened in shock, her heart racing with the implications. She felt like she was standing on the edge of a cliff, staring into an unknown abyss. Rayyan's words hung in the air, leaving her wondering: what did it mean to have immunity to powers? And what lay ahead for her?
" I don't know about this all Rayyan I really don't. These powers and immunity. How about we search it . Rayyan" Dee says while sobbing.
"It's okay Dee . I trust you". He says and then he hug her .
