Chapter 6: Mixing of Blood and Potential
"So, my too smart for his age son, would you like to learn about myself or your father first?" Zerana asked with a smile since Kayn's eyes seemed to glitter once she got to the crux of the topic.
"Hmmm, I would like to learn about Dad first since he seems to be mixed and I have no clue about you, so I'll save the mystery for last!" Kayn excitedly expressed his joy at finally learning what he really wanted to know.
Since they had been standing this entire time, Zerana picked up her son and headed towards the couch that was in the next room to sit down. She placed Kayn next to her and slightly turned her body to face him.
"As I told you before, your father is from the Nether Light continent. This continent mainly has races which utilize the light and dark elements. As such, different elven races and also those of the demon races are the main two races that live here.
"While there are settlements for other races, most do not survive this continent long since those who wield darkness and light quickly overpower them."
To Kayn, this made sense as those who had stronger power would most likely rule over the different continents. If a particular race had an advantage for their environment, it was only common sense to assume they would rule over it.
"Your father is the child of a 3rd generation progenitor demon as well as a high elf. His mother, your grandmother, was captured in the last great war of the Nether Light continent and gifted to your grandfather as a 'spoil of war'."
A disgusted expression appeared on Zerana's face as she explained this to her son. While her husband grew up to be a righteous and wonderful man, his father was anything but that.
"Your father and his mother were thrown into the wilds as soon as she started to show signs of pregnancy. She only survived due to her determination and the elements she wielded.
"Elves, and in particular High Elves, have high affinities for the light element, water element, and wind element. If a particular elf has an affinity for all three, they are able to control and manipulate plant life.
"Your grandmother was able to manipulate plants, but not control them. As such, she was able to live by constructing a small shelter in a tree high above the ground and utilizing different edible plants and fruiting trees to grow faster for food."
Kayn's eyes opened wide at what his mother had just revealed to him. To think his grandmother was so amazing that she was able to persevere in a place where death should have been guaranteed.
After studying and learning more about the world, he understood that anywhere labelled as 'wild' would be among the most dangerous places in a continent. Wild zones were those that were deemed unconquerable by the residents of the continents due to the extremely strong beasts and monsters that roamed there, not to mention the various deadly environments.
"Grandmother is quite amazing," Kayn muttered just loud enough for his mother to hear. All the sudden Kayn's back went straight as he realized something. "Wait Mom, Dad and therefore myself are the 4th and 5th generation descendants of a progenitor demon?"
"I was wondering when you would catch that. Yes, your father is a 4th generation progenitor while you are a 5th generation. This particular demon progenitor was known for her crimson hair and eyes as far as physical traits go. However, what made this demon who she is or was, as I'm not sure if she is alive, was her power and control over fire.
"Instead of just creating and manipulating fire, she controls it. Regardless of where a fire originated, whose mana created it, or the will that commands it, she could take over control. This trait is passed down among her children and their children.
"However, this aspect disappears after the 6th generation where rather than controlling fire, they are still strong in it, but a new race of demons is born. This is how the many demon races have come to be as the 6th generation demon races continued to propagate." Zerana explained slowly as she could tell Kayn as getting confused.
"But Mom, doesn't this mean there can be an infinite amount of demon races that can pop up?"
Zerana expected this question, so she didn't hesitate to answer. "Yes and no. Most of the new races born from the 6th generation end up being very similar and are classified as the same race. This is especially true for the 7th generations with the same progenitor.
"For example, if you did not have my genes, your child would be similar if not the same to another already existing race born from your progenitor."
"So that means either no demons from this progenitor have mated with your race, or they have all been killed off then?" Kayn asked as this was extremely curious considering how long the universe has been in existence.
"Well, I can assure you not just your progenitor's lineage, but no demon ever mated with my race before your father and I, as we were a very proud race. Even more so than our kin that are similar. To further emphasize how rare it is to hold a progenitor bloodline now days, most new demons born these days are in the thousands if not hundreds of thousands in their generation lineage. You can imagine how old your grandfather is now and why he disposes of those who get pregnant with his children."
While explaining all of this to her son, she hoped that it wasn't too in depth for him and he could focus on what was actually important in her explanations. As if a burst of inspiration lit up in Kayn, he excitedly turned towards his mother to exclaim what he had just figured out.
"Dad is able to use lightning because of his particular mix of races! While he could control fire from his demon side and most likely has an affinity for light and wind due to being part high elf, he was able to mix these and utilize lightning as his main element!"
Smiling at her son's deduction ability she continued where he left off. "Yes, that is correct. After obtaining his abilities he learned he could utilize the lightning that falls during storms and harness it to empower himself and his spells, everything else evolved from that point.
"As far as his body, physical prowess, and potential go, you could say he is within the high range of potential. His demon side is strong, but since it specializes in magic rather than a physical aspect, it does not rank amongst the highest potential. Elves are also strong, but specialize in agility and speed. So overall your father's physical prowess is around an 8.5 out of 10 if we were to make a physical potential scale."
Zerana told this to Kayn as she smiled. While she didn't marry Ezekiel for his strength or potential, she was very excited to see the potential in her children with their mix of bloodlines.
"Okay, so I think I understand where I will sit at on a simple scale with Dad's blood running in me. But I guess my overall potential relies on what I have inherited from you Mom." Kayn continued to ponder out loud, which made his mother smile in her heart as she knew his expression was about to change.
"Now, as I also explained, I am from the Void Realm. Most races that reside there utilize the dark element and/or elements that are similar in nature. I am an Obsidian Void Dragon. A princess and daughter of the previous emperor of the race to be exact."
There was a proud, but sad smile on Zerana's face as tears could be seen forming at the edges of her eyes. Quickly blinking away the sad thoughts, she looked at her son's face. Kayn was staring at her blankly, mouth open wide, and all focus gone from his eyes.
"Wha- wha- What? You are a dragon? I'm a dragon?? WHAT?!?" Kayn couldn't help but shout out as his mind just exploded from this revelation from his mother before his mood turned solemn. "Wait you said the previous emperor?"
Chuckling at the astonished look at Kayn's face, Zerana decided to answer his questions.
"Yes, I am a pure-blooded Obsidian Void Dragon. Actually, all those of my race were, until you and your sister came along. As I told you before, my race is a very proud race even amongst our own kin, dragons. The only dragons with more pride than us are probably the ancient red and blue dragon races. In this way, we did not ever mate with other races and kept ourselves of pure bloodline.
"Also, if you're wondering how a dragon can mate with a humanoid race and why I look like this, those of mystical beast bloodlines have two forms, one humanoid and one beast. Our humanoid form and the mana flowing through our world is what allows us to mate with other races. Our size and weight are condensed into a smaller humanoid form. Both forms have their advantages in battle though."
Zerana paused here, because now she knew she was about to drop the real bombshell on Kayn.
"Kayn, the reason I have been talking about my race in the past tense is due to the fact that to my knowledge, I am the only pure-blood Obsidian Void Dragon in this world now. This includes the other lower worlds and possible even higher ones. And aside from you and Clementine, I have never met any other being with our blood. I include the Celestial World because our peak existences almost never ascended as they preferred to live in and guide others in the Void Realm, rather than continuing their journey. Ensuring that the Obsidian Void Dragon Clan remained at the peak of powers in the world."
