Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking

Chapter 635: Whale Fall

--

Cedric knew that things were bad when the slumbering Space Whale became unusually active.

Even from within the safety net of the prison, Cedric felt its threat. The Space Whale's body was trembling, shivering, or something along those lines for some reason. Cedric had no idea why, though, but he was greatly alarmed.

'The Space Whale...what's happening to it? '

Unable to understand it, Cedric could only hope to find answers from the Void Slave. Unfortunately, he was bound to be disappointed.

Excuse my ignorance, sir, but I, too, don't know why it's acting like that. What I can say is that no matter what it does, it wouldn't threaten me or the realm inside. Please prioritize your safety. I'll pull you in if things go really bad.

The voice of the Void Slave was tense too, indicating that it too felt uneasy because of what's happening.

Cedric didn't blame it for not knowing anything. He didn't have high hopes to begin with; it was a long shot that missed, and that's fine. He does appreciate that even in this tense situation, the slave reminded him to be careful.

Cedric observed the situation some more, sticking close to the prison just in case he needed to bolt at any given moment.

The creature he used to spar with, even the more terrible ones, cowered before the situation. Cedric could sense them minimizing their presence to the maximum, hoping to become as small as they possibly could to escape whatever it is that's about to happen. Their ferocities were tamed by the sheer gap in strength. Even the slightest movement from the big and strong Space Whale scared them shitless.

Cedric felt like gloating because a few of these creatures used to bully him. Alas, he too was in the same boat as they were. The only difference is that he had an assurance of his safety, at least. Unlike them, who are completely exposed.

The shaking of the Space Whale continued. And as days passed, which turned into weeks, it became even more intense. So much so that space and time began acting weird.

The past, present, and future were turning into a jumbled mess. If it weren't for the fact that Cedric had some level of mastery over space and time laws, he would've been greatly affected by this even if he were to return inside the prison. That's how horrible things are going on around this death zone.

Hell, even with his attainments in space and time laws, Cedric could still feel its effects trying to drag him down. Cedric had to focus some effort to resist it.

Suffice it to say, he's safe. But he can't say the same to those who were near the Space Whale, where the commotion was the strongest.

The ruins and debris that landed on the Space Whale's body had long been turned into space dust from its shaking. The creatures who had been living in those ruins too were dead. They tried to flee, but they couldn't escape very far before they were caught in the distorted space and time conundrum.

Pained roars and moans of the Space Whale echoed through the death zone. The sound pierced through every corner there is. It also contained so much power that even from a distance, Cedric was affected.

He barely resisted coughing out blood from the sound impact. And wasn't that just utterly ridiculous? Cedric was already a genuine Cosmic Realm Life Evolver in this Primitive Universe, yet even this level of strength wasn't enough to defend against the pained groan of the Space Whale.

And it wasn't even trying to hurt anybody...

Cedric, though, was confident that he was far enough from any real danger, so he didn't return to the prison yet. He kept observing, trying to understand what's happening.

Weeks then turned into months, and at the fourth month, Cedric finally guessed what might be happening here.

'Whale Fall...' Cedric muttered to himself.

It took some time because he was being cautious, and there were just so many things he didn't understand. But when he saw the hints of Death Laws becoming more and more obvious around the Space Whale, he started becoming suspicious.

At first, he thought that it was just one of the many phenomena that the Space Whale could do, one of its abilities, if you will. And he wouldn't have found that strange. It's a genuine primordial creature after all; even its most random movement could evoke the power of laws. This was an innate gift for creatures like that.

But then he discovered that the Death Laws weren't around because the Space Whale called to them. It appeared because its time has arrived.

The Death Laws wasn't something it wielded. It shrouded the Space Whale, enforcing the idea that it's approaching the natural end of its lifespan.

Cedric believed his idea even more when he saw some withered and decayed blotches on the whale's body, which became more and more prominent over time.

The Space Whale was dying, and its cries and groans were its way of saying that it's unwilling to die just yet but also helpless.

It tried to cover itself with a thick coating of space and time laws, trying to form a kind of shell that would protect it from the touch of death. It even tried to distort the timeline to cheat death.

Yet, faced with this, the Death Laws didn't retreat. It doubled down to enforce its duty.

What appeared was no longer just a fundamental law or a great law; it's the heavenly law of death.

Cedric was looking at the Heavenly Law in action. And as he expected, he couldn't understand a thing despite trying. The machinations of the Heavenly Laws completely eluded his vision. Even the mighty Space Whale was like an ant in front of it.

The Space Whale's meager resistance was like a single ply of tissue trying to stop a flood—utterly and irrevocably useless.

Cedric was equal parts scared, terrified, fascinated, and amazed by what he was witnessing.

It wasn't the first time he saw death in action, but he sure as hell never saw a more domineering and unstoppable concept of law in action.

In the end, the Space Whale died.

It tried its best, but it wasn't even close. In front of the Heavenly Law of Death, its resistance was futile.

Death lingered around long enough to ensure that its job was truly done. It's as if it's making sure that the Space Whale was actually dead before leaving.

Once it had confirmed that, the death laws surrounding the corpse of the Space Whale started dissipating into nothingness.

The Heavenly Law appeared and disappeared like a ghost. It never asked for permission; it just did what it should.

This event made Cedric sigh.

A primordial creature—a lifeform that's naturally loved by the Primitive Universe, one that's no different from gods at birth, bestowed with extremely long lifespans and absurd strength—also wasn't immune to the rules of the Primitive Universe.

The Space Whale lived and died according to the script provided by Primal Chaos. Its overwhelming strength and talent turned out to be meaningless.

Such are the rules, Cedric supposed. Unless one discovers a way to evolve and transcend beyond the rules, they will forever be a slave to them.

'Ah! I'm getting ahead of myself! 'Cedric smacked his face a few times to wake himself up.

The cold indifference of the rules wasn't something he should care about too much; that subject is too far from him anyway.

Instead, he should start paying attention to the corpse of the space whale because, despite being dead, this humongous creature still has so much to offer, especially to a small creature like him.

'Screw it! I can't miss this chance! Go! '

Gritting his teeth, Cedric decided to send a clone over.

He can't miss out on this, especially when it's dangling in front of him.

The other creatures are still terrified and hiding in this lair, not even daring to take a peek or make any noise, which means that by moving now, Cedric is giving himself a head start in this race.

And believe it, there will be a race. The corpse of a Primordial Creature isn't something that any lifeform would ignore.

Sure, there are still dangers around, but Cedric could see them just fine. So long as he remains alert and careful, he could turn this head start into an unbridgeable advantage.

He has long observed the Space Whale, not just for a time but the whole time he was out here exploring. He had to be constantly conscious of it since even a small movement from it could be fatal to him.

Because of this, Cedric knew that it had a wound somewhere on its head. One that hasn't healed even after a long time. Thinking about it now, Cedric assumed that it's this very wound that did the Space Whale in, but that doesn't matter right now.

What's important is that that wound was large enough for Cedric to use as an entrance to its body.

And it just so happened that one of the most valuable treasures on the Space Whale's body was its brain.

This wound will be Cedric's shortcut to that.
