Chapter 581: Gerald's Adventures (End)
--
"It took you this long to get it?"
This was the question Gerald was met with as soon as he returned to his ship. He nodded slightly in reply, not really wanting to discuss anything further.
"Huh, was it worth it, at least?" The Holy Spirit dude asked curiously.
"It's okay," Gerald replied.
His friends could tell that there's more to this, but it's clear that he didn't want to elaborate. It may be because he couldn't or just simply doesn't want to. Either way, they could only drop it at that.
"Well, if you say so..." his friend shrugged. "Where to next?"
"If you guys don't mind, we'll go on a little detour," Gerald said. "Well...it shouldn't take long; there's just something I need to do to settle some karma. After that, we go wherever you guys want."
"No problem," almost all of them replied at the same time.
They really have no problem with this. It's not like they know where to go next anyway. Besides, Gerald said that he had to settle some karma, and that's something he wouldn't bring up unless it's actually important.
Karmic ties was a concerning matter for any Life Evolutionaries. The more unsettled karmic debts one has, the harder it would be for them to step into the Cosmic Realm of Life Evolution. This is why any unnecessary karmic ties must be settled before one even steps into the Transitional Realm.
Since his friends didn't mind, Gerald didn't hesitate either. He summoned the ship's interface and placed the coordinates of their destination. It truly wasn't far from here. With the ship's speed, it'd only take five days for them to arrive there.
After doing this. Gerald went into his room to eat something, take a bath, and change into more comfortable clothes before lying on his bed.
Staring at the ceiling of his room, Gerald's mind replayed the last moments he spent before leaving the inheritance site...
That lady faded with a stomach full of regrets. In the end, she's unable to do anything against him. He remained unmoved by her emotions and regrets. And even as she faded, she still clung to her pride and dignity. She didn't ask or beg him to do anything for her.
In the end, her inheritance ended up with Gerald, just as planned. But since her lingering regrets were unsettled before she died, it's completely sealed.
Actually, this seal was nothing to Gerald. If he really wanted to, he could easily erase the seal while preserving the inheritance. Her lingering resentment and regret weren't a big deal either. Gerald could burn or melt it with sunfire if he chooses to do so.
That said, doing any or both of those things will certainly stain him with karma...an unnecessary one, too, at that. And being at the cusp of entering the Transitional Realm soon, Gerald couldn't afford to do rookie mistakes like that.
Gerald scoffed at himself as his thoughts reached this point, inwardly stating, 'Things may not have gone the way she wanted to, but the ending remains the same. If only she got rid of her arrogance and entitlement, we could've settled this in a faster and more amicable way. Hell, I'd even take her with me to witness how I settle her wishes. Alas...some people are just really stupid.'
Without the inheritance there, the site will collapse soon. Once that happens, there will be one less Cosmic Level Inheritance Site in the alliance.
Usually, when this happens, people would entertain some ideas. Some will curiously investigate who got their hands on the inheritance, and if they're particularly greedy about it, they wouldn't hesitate to hunt down the lucky person to steal it from them.
Technically, this was frowned upon in the alliance, but not exactly illegal. After all, as morally structured the alliance was, power still speaks the loudest here. Who cares about how they got into their current positions? What's important is their ability to continue sitting on their thrones, not how they got there.
'I'd love to see them try.' Gerald chuckled to himself.
He wasn't afraid of being hunted by pirates or thieves. It wouldn't be the first time anyway. In fact, he's looking forward to it. After all, it's been a while since he had a satisfying battle, so he welcomes anybody who dares to try.
**
Five days passed by quickly. Soon, the ship arrived at their destination, prompting Gerald to move.
He decided to move alone. This was, after all, a personal karmic tie. His friends didn't mind that either.
Gerald stepped out of the ship and began walking on space like it was a flat surface. With his sharp eyesight, he already saw the realm where he's needed.
'South Victory Realm,' Gerald muttered inwardly.
According to his research, South Victory Realm used to be at Rank 75 within the Outer Ring of the Alliance. While that might not sound impressive, just remember that there were a lot of cosmic realms within the Primeval Scarlet Dust Realm. Some Cosmic Realms breed more than one impressive lifeform too.
Sadly though, during these past hundreds of years, the South Victory Realm had fallen from its grace. And the fault lies entirely on the same queen who led them to that height in the first place.
Alissa Frosthaven—also known as the Tyrant Snow Queen. She's the one and only governor of the South Victory Realm. It was said that she ruled with an iron fist and was extremely domineering in her means. Because of this, she has offended many people, yet because she was skilled, she remained untouchable for a while.
There's one particular event that sparked the start of this descent. Alissa, being the tyrant that she is, was unsatisfied with the results of her people. Not all of them, but a large majority at least. She thought that they were disobeying her, but in truth, her demands were just simply too much for them to handle.
To punish them, she plunged their planets into a winter that would last for two years. It wouldn't kill them all, but it will definitely make them suffer. She was hoping that they wouldn't dare to entertain any ideas again after this.
Well, that was her original plan. However, she was suddenly ambushed and then, later, killed.
Now, the problem escalated because only Alissa can dispel the winter, but she's nowhere to be found. Her people tried their best to save themselves. They hired experts and other Cosmic Level experts, but none of them managed to do it.
The worst part is that, as years went by, the winter expanded to more than just a few planets. It began spreading to all corners of the cosmic realm. The only saving grace to all of this is that the winter was specifically modified to just make her people suffer, not cool the planet's cores. Otherwise, South Victory Realm would've long since turned into a massive glacier block.
To survive, Alissa abandoned her physical body and used her remaining energy to leave an inheritance site behind with the intention of raising someone to undo her last mistake, because she too realized what she had done.
Unfortunately, there aren't many people who could qualify for her inheritance. Even amongst those who could, almost nobody was interested in shouldering her responsibilities, so she could only watch as they left.
And in her final moments, it was Gerald whom she met. Her ending was ugly, and maybe she deserved that after everything she did.
The same can't be said of her people, though. And that's the main reason why Gerald went here anyway.
"Hmm, shouldn't be too hard, I suppose," Gerald hummed softly as he walked closer to the realm.
He had no interest in making an appearance or expressing his intentions to Alissa's people. He's here to do what he wanted to do, and that's it.
So without any further ado. Gerald raised his hand once he was close enough to the realm.
In that same instant, all the ice, snow, and frost that scattered and raged all over the realm were seemingly pulled by an invisible force, dragging them to Gerald's hands.
It was a grand spectacle that alarmed not only Gerald's friends but even more so the citizens of the South Victory Realm.
Under normal circumstances, this should've been impossible for Gerald to do. He was, after all, undoing the mystical power of a Cosmic Level expert as a Grand Solar Sage.
But in terms of concept law comprehension, Gerald certainly doesn't lose out to Alissa. And this equalizer was enough for him to undo the curse she left for her people.
All the snow, ice, and frost that accumulated on all the planets of the South Victory Realm gathered into his palms, forming a snowflake. Once it reached sufficient condensation that allowed Gerald to clearly sense the root of the curse, he crushed the snowflake and subsequently broke the curse as well.
This released a fluctuation that spread throughout the entirety of South Victory. It carried only one message:
'The curse is broken. Everything will return to how it was before this nightmare began.'
The blooming nature that everybody thought to be a distant memory already was a sign that this message was true. And the warm rays of sunlight touching them just enforced it even more.
Gerald felt the inheritance orb turning warmer in his pockets. The restriction and the lingering resentment and regrets about it disappeared, signaling that his job here was done.
So, with a single step, he appeared on the deck of the ship and asked his friends,
"Where to next?"
