Chapter 8: The Greater World
The universe's great sweep. a place rife with unbounded danger and great power. Kael stood at the brink of a black forest and felt the weight of its presence pressing down on him. He could feel the chilly air crushing down on him; it was biting on his flesh. From the one he had left behind, this planet was quite different. The walls of the Void Family mansion offered little comfort; no elders were watching over him. He stood alone, facing an uncertain future where every step was a gamble and every breath could be his last. He stood before an unknown future.
Kael saw the vast landscape open out front of him when he peered out the window. Mountains appeared to be chewing at the heavens, rivers looked to continue indefinitely, and woods were so thick they absorbed the sun. The surroundings, which were vibrant and active, pulsed with its presence in this raw, untamed energy cosmos. This started his path, and every decision he took would decide his direction going forward.
Though Kael had become rather strong, there was another thing eating away at him—a need buried deep within his soul. Not what had taken him to this point in his life were the usual traits of ambition and a quest for power. That fragment of the Primordial Vessel that had bonded itself to his essence, the insatiable pull of the Soul of Nothingness, was now active and well within him. His voice was always quiet, and he felt a terrible draw toward forward motion. Let me be liberated, begged. Our expected leadership role was that of
Kael feeling himself being anchored by the sword's cold surface as his palm tightened around it. He murmured, beneath his breath, "I'm not here to conquer everything," something he was not destined to do. It isn't yet.
Keeping his eyes fixed on the approaching scary woodland, Vexar, the enigmatic messenger at his side, did not say. Though he did not exhibit any feelings or provide any comfort, his aura was alive.
Vexar's sudden "You think too much," as if he could read Kael's mind, startled him. Regarding the Greater World, your opinions have nothing bearing on things. Regarding power, one is concerned.
Kael handed him a glance. "Then let's see how it responds to mine," the speaker added.
There was a shift in the air before they could get much farther. The sudden and strong impact had caused Kael's neck hair to start to stand on edge. There was no sound of winds or leaf rustling; the landscape had changed without any auditory indication. All around them, the forest was only their unpleasant quiet. Kael's eyes narrowed as he realized he was staring at something.
The ground under his boots seemed to be alive and conscious of their presence, as though something in the forest itself were vibrating. A chill not natural crept up his spine, and his arms' hair stood on edge concurrently.
Vexar said, "They're here," his voice quiet but faintly excited. "They's here." "The silence, Fang."
"What specifically do they desire?" Kael's voice was piercing at the same moment his hand instinctively grabbed for the power within of him.
The trees protested and moved in strange ways as people came out from the shadows. Their existence was felt long before they were clearly visible to the unaided eye. These were black robe-wearing cultivators with black faces hidden under a sinister intention. Their eyes reflected a horrible need for which they exuded, and their clear aura of demonic power permeated everything around them. It was no simple ambush. This project proved challenging.
Vexar said in a voice almost like a whisper that the Silent Fang are like shadows seen in the night. They influence, penetrate, and control. Long before you are, they know your flaws. They break you without your having to do anything.
Kael remarked, "They'll have to try harder than that," even if his voice was tinged with cold will.
The one in charge of the Silent Fang moved forward, his mask producing a perfect darkness vacuum. Just his eyes shone, and they were gleaming with a hate that cooled Kael's blood. "So this is the famous Kael Voidbreaker," the commander groaned, his voice flat and sloppily hateful. "This is the Kael Voidbreaker."The child claims that the Void is his by right. What lucky chance is it that we have located you?
Kael's pupils narrowed, and his heart stayed steady despite the somewhat distorted gnawing desire within him. It is over right now. They came to run him through his paces. To decide if he was really deserving of his legendary background or whether he was just another arrogant young person experimenting with abilities he cannot control.
"Do you see yourself able to break me?" Kael's voice had a dark and menacing tone, and it seemed to have gravitational force acting to push on the leader. You are not the first to attempt, the sentence says.
The commander turned his lips into a grin behind his mask. Seeing whether you are as confident when on your knees will be intriguing.
The bodies of the growers blended together with the speed of their motions as they progressed in a synchronized strike. Kael, meantime, was faster. In an instant, he raised his hand, his fingers expanding into a wide embrace, causing the surrounding environment to come to a halt. A tremendous earthquake changed the environment, and as the moment happened, the space itself seemed to shrink in horror. Simultaneously, he started to stir within the Void, a cold and relentless abyss coiling around the very fabric of life.
An unusual light started to flicker in Kael's eyes as the energy of Nothingness started to explode through him. The Silent Fang stopped abruptly, as if caught in midair, and their expressions stayed fixed isilentder. Kael could feel the tension in the air—the rawness of power twisted the very air around him about him.
Declaring, "You're in my world no longer," Kael's voice had a quiet but forceful tone. His words were not just spoken; they resonated with a force incomprehensible for us.
The growers started to bend and deform as the surrounding air grew denser. Space itself looked to be falling apart and collapsing within itself. The persons in front of Kael seemed to be flickering, as if they were simply bits of a false fragment; the basic truth of their existence seemed to be losing constancy.
Kael's presence helped to calm things even as the Silent Fang's leader roared and tried to break free. The leader's eyes sharpened, and with a flick of his wrist, the ground underneath him cracked, exposing a dark abyss that threatened to swallow him whole.
With a frigid voice, Kael said, "This is the power of nothingness," and he clarified. "It would have been better if you stayed reserved."
The leader of the Silent Fang's eyes became wide as he realized this was obviously not a child. They had blatantly undervalued this creature of power, as it was beyond their understanding.
The ground around the Silent Fang dropped even further, trapping them in a black hole getting ever deeper. Kael's hand closed, and the ground gave way still further. Their resistance was being consumed by the nothingness Kael had created; hence when their power started to fade, they were unable to preserve it.
Kael said, "I'll give you a choice," in a tone as frigid as the darkness encirclement them. "I will forgive you for your life should you depart. Stay here; I shall fade off the face of the world.
Though his mask was crumbling and his lips were twisted into a frown, the commander called for everyone to go. The Silent Fang left with footsteps heavy with the weight of defeat, spreading like vermin over the territory.
Keal stayed there, unmoving, staring at you with dark, analytical eyes. Now, rather than the other way around, he was in charge of this force; the bits of Nothingness flared ferociously inside him till they caused devastation. His initial test in the Greater World had come up clean.
Even as the Silent Fang vanished into the forest, Kael couldn't escape the feeling that this was only the beginning of what was to come. In this domain, there were powers even more terrible, forces seeking to take what was rightfully his. Conversely, they would soon find that Kael Voidbreaker was not someone to treat lightly.
Vexar started to chuckle appreciatively. "You have picked up really fast some fresh talents. Remember, too, that the Greater World does not treat those who are overly confident with compassion.
Kael's tone was cold, and he added, "I don't need your advice," upon answering. I will walk my own path through life.
