Chapter 307.2
Chapter 307.2. Current Situation
Overwhelmed by shame, Serika pushes me away, covers her face with both hands, and rolls on the floor. Her lack of composure hasn’t changed in three years. She started it, but she’s just hopeless.
The men around us shoot jealous glances, while the women excitedly chatter about witnessing something good. The glances don’t matter, but Hana and Jun’s stares sting. They’re clearly telling me not to disrupt the explanation.
“Don’t tease my wife too much, Sakimori.”
“Old man, you’re here too.”
“I’ve already passed on the family headship, so I thought I’d just relax and focus on business.”
The ever-elusive old man Ashikaga greets me, and I can’t help but smile wryly. He speaks in a leisurely tone, claiming it’s just light work after retirement, but I know better. This old man has been more active since stepping down as family head. He’s way too energetic.
“This price range of magical tools is the best-selling, right? Think about your age, old man.”
“The folks at Amatsugahara Corporation are nouveau riche. We need to make sure their money circulates properly. Hoarding it won’t make anyone happy.”
The old man doesn’t deny his age, and I can’t help but smile wryly at that. But he’s right, and it’s fine. Wealth isn’t just about money. Turning money into magical tools is a good thing.
Looking around, I notice not just the old man Takauji, but several suited individuals standing by the walls, their eyes gleaming. They’re like predators eyeing their prey. Is this a hunter’s hunting ground?
“Calm down. Don’t mind me.”
I mutter just a hint of mana, and everyone snaps out of it, returning their attention to Jun and Hana’s explanation.
“Hey, the mental magic resistance ring lit up.”
“Good thing we could test the magical tools. They’re the best-selling, right?”
There are many monsters that use mental magic like confusion, charm, fear, and cowardice. The effect duration is about 10 minutes at most, even at the highest level. But the paranoid rich buy far more magical tools than adventurers. It’s strange, really. I wonder what kind of sales tactics Serika used.
“Aside from intimidation magic, I’ve never seen anyone else use mental magic on humans. But the high-end magical tools are ridiculously expensive.”
“Stop buying them. It’s such a waste.”
The Dungeon Master takes responsibility. There’s nothing dangerous about humans using mental magic. That’s the setting I’ve established. Well, there’s nothing to teach, though.
“Hearing that from you makes me think I need them even more. Is it just me?”
The old man Takauji glares at me. The rumors are really something. I’m only saying what’s right, but well, he can interpret it however he likes.
When the explanation ends, Hana and Jun run over to me, while Serika and the old man head over to the nouveau riche farmers with cheerful smiles to greet them.
“President Sakimori, good afternoon.”
“What brings you here today?”
“You’ve both grown so much. I’m impressed. I didn’t expect you to give such confident lectures.”
I praise them, happy to see their growth. They’ve grown so tall that I can’t pat their heads anymore. I feel a little sad about that, but seeing how capable they’ve become makes me even happier.
“Thank you, President Sakimori. We’ve done this explanation many times, so we’re used to it!”
Jun rubs his nose and gives a shy smile. He’s grown so strong. He’s now known as the hope of orphans. After all, he’s a billionaire executive at Amatsugahara Corporation.
“We’re releasing a new car soon. It’s a regular car with a transformable feature that can also function as a cultivator. I think it’ll sell well!”
“Limit it to about 10 units. It probably won’t sell.”
“I think everyone will buy it… hmm.”
He’s become a boy who can make his own cars, but his sense for cars is lacking. Only kids would be excited about a car that transforms into a cultivator. Adults want regular cars to stay regular. Turning a muddy cultivator into a regular car would just make washing it a nightmare.
Jun, the mad scientist who keeps creating bizarre cars, tilts his head in dissatisfaction, but I won’t budge on this. Don’t force originality where it’s not needed.
“Ugh~. Jun-chan keeps making weird stuff. You need to take it step by step~. I prefer regular rice farming.”
Hana puts her hands on her hips and laughs, exasperated.
“Planting Golden Rice attracts giant sparrows, so it’s fun to fend them off. Those monsters have sharp aerial maneuvers, making them hard to defeat.”
Hana flexes her arm with a smile, showing off her muscle. At first glance, her arms look slender. Status effects don’t reflect appearance, but her spirit is different.
“Planting high-rank magical crops has a high chance of spawning an F-rank dungeon.”
I quietly avert my eyes from Hana, who’s grown too strong. Yukihana, did you train her too much? Is her brain turning into muscle?
“Speaking of which, where’s Yukihana?”
I’ve met Serika, so now it’s just Yukihana left.
“Ah, I saw her at the training ground.”
“Okay, thanks. I’ll go see her then.”
I give a light wave to the two who’ve grown so strong and capable, and leave. I’ll catch up with Serika later.
Now, I wonder what she’s up to.
