Chapter 298: Ashes and Foundations [298]
The sky over the New World was dark, tinged with purplish hues. The sea around the island simmered with slow thermal bubbles, releasing sulfur-laden vapors. The island itself was a jagged cut of volcanic rock, lifeless, nameless, isolated from the world—perfect.
FWOOSH.
Riser appeared on the rocky plateau, his black robes stirred by the thermal pressure. His golden eyes scanned the terrain with cold precision.
Nothing. No living presence, no energy signature. Exactly as he'd requested.

He inhaled slowly, arms crossed. The breeze was hot, almost suffocating.
"Good start."
The interface appeared before him in silence, glowing in pale gold.

The sky trembled faintly. Riser's vision was flooded with fragments of unfamiliar images—burning ruins, red autumn leaves, the Uchiha clan symbol. An eye opened within him.
Two.
Both eyes glowed for a second. The golden pupil of the Phenex vanished.
Two black pinwheels spun slowly.
Mangekyō Sharingan.
Kamui.
He smiled.
"Now we're talking… I'm going to fuck this world up."
The Sharingan faded with a slight tremor, returning to its original state.
"Next purchase."

A wave of energy expanded from the island's center. Invisible to ordinary eyes but perceptible to Haki. Reality warped—as if the island no longer existed.
"Last one."
"I want to make this island indestructible and stable. Any force attempting to alter it from outside will be repelled or absorbed."

The earth trembled. The rocks glowed faintly. Riser felt the system fusing with the island's core, like a soul implanted in the magma itself.
From that moment—it was his.
Silence.
Riser moved his fingers and opened the mental channel with Merlin.
"Come here. It's time to start."
FWOOSH.
Merlin appeared atop the plateau, her feet landing softly on the molten rock. Her eyes gleamed as she observed the invisible energy field around them.
"The island is already sealed?"
"It is. And it no longer exists to the rest of the world."
She approached, her cloak fluttering gently.
"Impressive. This is more advanced than underworld structures."
"We're on another level now."
She nodded lightly. Her gaze was technical but serene. There was something else there. A hint of amusement in her eyes.
"I received the signal from the collapse in Skypiea. Hancock thought you'd died. She was about to invade the heavens with a lipstick spear and an army of petals."
Riser arched an eyebrow, his expression impassive.
"She's always been dramatic."
Merlin took a step closer, her face slightly tilted.
"She's preparing a surprise for when you return."
He frowned.
"Surprise?"
Merlin crossed her arms.
"An erotic surprise."
Silence.
The wind blew across the island. Volcanic dust swirled like golden serpents around them.
"Explain."
Merlin smirked.
"Petal baths, aphrodisiac incense, sheer clothing, private dances… and some sort of 'surrender ceremony,' in her words."
Riser stood still for a moment.
His eyes flickered with a new spark.
"Interesting."
"She's taking it seriously. She's even competing with Alvida and Robin over who gets more alone time with you."
"Let them sort it out."
Merlin smiled.
"Do you want me to stay here and start the base?"
"Yes. Build the first levels. Reinforce the core with defensive runes. Install a regeneration circle and a matrix for a direct portal to Amazon Lily."
"Understood."
She turned immediately, opening a magical screen above her palm. Symbols began forming in the air, like lines of ancient code weaving in spirals.
Riser stepped back. The island was still raw, but its potential was absolute.
His.
The entire space around had been torn from common reality.
He had his fortress.
He had absolute power.
And now…
A new look crossed his face. The Mangekyō Sharingan flared briefly before fading.
"I'll be back soon."
FWOOSH.
His body vanished into a dark fold in space.
He'd left his base under Merlin's command.
But his mind was already on Amazon Lily.
---
FWOOSH.
The air warped in a golden glow for a brief second. Riser appeared at the entrance of the main hall, his black robes still dusted with traces of volcanic ash. His gaze swept the room briefly before settling on the two figures ahead.
Robin and Alvida were waiting for him.
Robin was the first to notice. She closed the book she was reading, rising fluidly. Her eyes were half-lidded, a distinct shadow over her lids.
Alvida crossed her arms. Her gaze scanned Riser from head to toe.
"So… you're back."
Riser didn't respond immediately. He simply walked toward the center of the hall. His steps echoed rhythmically against the marble.
Robin watched him in silence.
Alvida stepped forward, her eyes glinting with a hint of provocation.
"Hey, master… can I ask something?"
Riser stopped.
"Depends on what it is."
She clicked her tongue, as if gearing up.
"That explosion… that thing in the sky… it was on Sky Island, right?"
Robin looked away. Her hands tightened slightly on the fabric of her dress, but she said nothing.
Alvida kept her tone light, almost casual.
"The Straw Hats were there, weren't they?"
Riser glanced over his shoulder, his golden eyes sharp as blades.
"They were."
Robin didn't react.
Alvida raised an eyebrow.
"And… they're really dead?"
"Yes."
Silence fell.
Robin showed no expression. She just stood there, as if absorbing every syllable.
Alvida twirled one of her rings on her finger. Her voice stayed light, but her eyes betrayed a more genuine curiosity.
"And… was it you?"
"No."
Riser turned fully to face her. His voice remained cold, unshakable.
"But if you bring up that subject again, I'll rip your tongue out."
The threat hung in the air with the same ease as a cutting breeze.
Alvida swallowed hard but masked it with a crooked smile.
"Got it."
She took a step back.
Robin remained still.
Her eyes were fixed on the floor, but her mind wandered.
'Ohara…'
That light in the sky, that total destruction… it was impossible not to remember.
Trees burning. Voices silenced. Books reduced to ashes.
She didn't cry.
But her fingers trembled slightly.
'How many times will this world repeat that cycle?'
Alvida glanced sideways.
"You look shaken."
Robin crossed her arms.
"The scene reminded me of something else. That's all."
Riser watched her for a few seconds.
She met his gaze.
Then looked away.
"It doesn't change anything."
The side doors opened. Hancock's three sisters appeared in sync, their strides long and purposeful. Sandersonia led, a faint smile on her face.
"Riser-sama. Our sister is waiting for you."
Riser didn't move a muscle.
"For what?"
Marigold covered her mouth with her hand, trying to stifle a laugh.
"She said it was important. Something… intimate."
Sandersonia added:
"She was very shaken by the explosion. She's… sensitive."
Robin and Alvida exchanged a brief glance.
Riser sighed.
"She's in her room?"
"Yes."
The three stepped aside.
Robin looked away, sitting back down. Alvida huffed, turning her body.
"Tch. Bet she's in an apron and rose perfume."
Riser didn't comment.
He simply passed between the three women and vanished down the corridor.
The sound of his footsteps echoed briefly.
Then faded.
---
Soft light illuminated Hancock's room.
The curtains were drawn. Candles scattered along the walls cast dancing shadows. The scent of incense and flowers filled the air.
Riser entered without announcing himself.
Hancock stood before the bed, wearing a purple silk kimono. Her hair loose, her eyes gleaming in silence.
She said nothing.
She only smiled.
Riser closed the door behind him.
The nearest candle flickered.
Their shadows merged with the light.
And the sky outside seemed to hold its breath.
