Chapter 63: Ascension Part 3
FINISHING THE FIELD DUNGEON Location the Underworld, the Bael Territory: Belladonna's Mansion; Belladonna's Study
The break was going well. Everyone was enjoying their stay in Belladonna's home. But she asked her son for discuss something in her study. Seeing and hearing the tone of his mom, Laharl, nodded and went with her to the study. She sat down behind her desk, as her son took a seat in front of her. Belladonna, she started to explain the current situation. They'd have greatly farm and collected from the Field Dungeon, they've even started to venture deeper into the third area, but they run into a snag. Aside from taking care of some Night Hounds, yellowed skinned Gremlins so the next rank of those monsters, blue coated ghosts from what he'd remembers their called Boggarts. So all the monsters from the third area, are ranked up monsters from the previous areas. Belladonna, she explained that they've been gaining a lot of benefits from hunting these monsters, and even reached what they believe is the final part of the area. But they can't access it.
Seems like his mom found the Boss Area. What he doesn't understands why she and those she permits, can't access the Boss. He thought, it was maybe because he wasn't the one challenging it. That could explain it, and as he though of this his mom, spoke to him again. As Belladonna, she requested that he and the girls pass the area. For its been slowing down the enhancing of other devils, and nekomatas that have join the dungeon dives. He smile and said, "You didn't need to ask mom. Me and the girls would be happy to help." making his mom smile. Plus it's been a year exactly or maybe longer, since he and the girls dived into the Field Dungeon. He was eager to see how deep a easy rank dungeon is, and what Boss was in charge of that ruin based field. Mom expressed gratitude to him, as they left the study together. At dinner he told the girls they're going hunting, which Rias and her peerage tried to join, but both Laharl and his mom refused. It's considered their family exclusive business, and Bellona in a polite manner told her that she wasn't a member of their direct bloodline, hence she couldn't. But then she'd mentioned they might become a closer family in the future, and she'd should be more invested in the family business...Laharl only thought, "Ayo!! Rias!! Issei is gonna put a ring on that finger, not me!! Ayo, what is this girl spewing!!", but his mom solved all problems, before they progressed more.
Location Field Dungeon Area 3 The next day, they headed out the mansion through the backyard. With servents and guards making sure Rias didn't pull any stunt, and see them enter the Field Dungeon. Going through the bushes on the backyard, Laharl and the girls went into the dungeon, skipping straight to the third area of the Field Dungeon. Already forgetting the terrain, as Nero was impressed with the architecture, they are in a massive underground Azteca-styled stone ruin, with a large amount of overgrowth. Laharl, he called his Vritra Zanbato, and cracked his left shoulder a bit, as he started walking forward. The girls all followed him, all ready for anything that they'll face, as Laharl, he told them of the monsters they'll encounter in these underground ruins. From night hounds, gold gremlins, and boggarts which are blue coated ghosts. Not much of the difference from many of their group apart from Daki, Raven, and Nero. Also while they'll be too strong at this point for the dungeon, he'd warned them to be careful. Making them smile, that their man was always watching out for them.
Venturing deeper into underground ruins, they came across a pack of night hounds, the blue furred hound monsters, were too weak and slow to be a challenge. They took them down without issue. Collecting the bodies, and absorbing the red and blue exp-drops, which were miniscule enhancement to their stats. Then they came up against more night hounds and boggarts started appearing as well. Again with Nero unbelievable speed and magical flamed slashes the boggarts were slain before they could prove a nuisance. Ruby and Daki utterly crushed the night hounds using their Hellish Knuckles, and Piercing Obi technique respectfully. The boggarts gave green and yellow exp-drops, something that was welcome for the ghosts of the previous area only gave green exp. But it was still miniscule in enhancing their stats. Literally this started to feel like sending a level 20 character in a level 5 dungeon. At least with the number of boggarts and night hounds, Nero magic stat leveled up. Something good came out from hunting these weak monsters. Even when a couple of the yellow skinned gremlins came, and tried to poison them with their Hell Pepper skill. Raven smashed them unto the ground, allowing Kyoko and Nero to rush in finish them. These gremlins gave yellow and orange exp-drops, again a welcomed surprise. But the end results were too miniscule to cause any addition to the stronger levels of their group. So for now they'll speed-run the ruin, and head straight to the Boss Area, from what his mom described, he pointed his finger at the tallest Azteca-pyramid temple in the area.
FIELD DUNGEON BOSS NUM# 3 SPEED-RUN Location Field Dungeon Area 3, Boss Area: Temple Tomb
After taking a large number of night hounds, boggarts, and a few dozen gold gremlins, they'd finally reached the base of the pyramid. Laharl, he was surprised to see a group of guard setting camp of the base way of the stairs. From their appearance they've been given better equipment, resembling dark knights. Fitting for devils actually, a guard with a spear saw them, and saluted. The guard explained that he and his squad have been posted there to keep watch, and report any changes to the temple door. They understood as Albedo told him to be at ease, and to head back to exit. For they will handle thing from there. The guard understood, stood aside and allowed through, as they passed the guard, they heard the guard commanding the others in the camp to get ready to leave. Once they stood in front the stairs leading to the top of the pyramid, Laharl, he turned to his girls and smirk, as he said to them, "You'll ready for this?" the smile and cheered with Nero, shouting, "Umu!!" As they started to climb...
A bit later. Laharl and the girls were in front of a large, old stone door. From what his mom told him, no matter what they'd did this door wouldn't bulge. Laharl, he placed his hand on the stone door, and all the marking and etching of the stone started to light in orangy yellow energy. As the sound of stone scrapping against the floor, the door started open. And with that Laharl and the girls went inside of the temple. Once inside of the pyramid is a stone chamber, filled with hyroglyphs of a Aztecan culture, with a stone sarcophagus in the center of the chamber. As soon as they took a step further into the tomb chamber, the chamber glowed in orangy-yellow throughout the markings and etching allover the room. As the sarcophagus started to shake, and the lid started to move onto the side, sliding off and smashing onto the floor. As Mummy with some yellowish whisp of fire, a completely bond mummy, Laharl immediately recognize this monster from Cross Edge.
The Mummy floated out of it's sarcophagus. It sent out those fire-whisps at them, but in the eyes of Laharl and the girls it was soaring at a turtle's pace. Kyoko rushed in and hit the Mummy with flying kick, causing the Boss to grunt in pain and it slams onto the floor. Nero used her Aestus Estus to slash in a V arc, burning and causing a lot of damage to the Boss. Cerberus they rushed with Vii throwing a powerful cross, followed by Kii with a uppercut that launches the Mummy to the air, as Mii ran on top of her other bodies' back, lunging herself at the Boss, and she delivers a forward spinning hell kick on top of the head of the Mummy. Smashing the Boss hard onto the floor, this was their weakest technique, Triple Strike. As the Mummy tried to get up, only for pink obi-sashes cut it and wrap around the Boss. Holding it tight, as Daki told Ruby, Albedo, Kneesocks, and Raven to attack. Raven used her magic to tear apart the empty sarcophagus, and used her magic to smash those chunk of stone onto the Boss, causing a large amount of damage. Albedo and Kneesocks started chopping and slashing away at the Mummy, as Ruby rushed in with her Infernal Sword pointed at the Boss. Albedo told Daki to release the Mummy, smiling and nodding to her sister and queen, she released her obi-strands off of the Boss, as Ruby stabbed her blade into the Boss' belly. Lifting the Boss off the ground, and channeling her demonic energy through her sword causing surge of spinning sharp-edges. Cutting apart the Boss, Ruby's Killer Spin technique it's always devastating, as she saw Mizore flying in the air with ball of ice-morningstars around her.
Smirking once her Killer Spin finished, Ruby tossed the Boss at Mizore. As the Mummy soared towards at Mizore, who was flying there at the ready. Using her Ice Mold to hit the Boss with her ice morningstars, once close she swiped her arms forward, launching her ice morningstars at the Boss. Smashing and piercing the Mummy in multiple blow, causing it to crash back onto the ground. Laharl, he was smirking this is what he'd suspected, they hunt in a dungeon one level higher than the Field Dungeon. Plus their numbers and teamwork, wouldn't allow this Boss any option to fight back. He started walking forward, one by one the girls were joining him. As the Boss was clearly unable to move, groaning heard by them all, eventually they've reached the down Mummy, covered in wounds, bruises, and more. Laharl, he decided to put the monster out of it's misery and strike down his sword, followed by all the girls dealing a final blow as well. And the Mummy was finished. A easier Boss than the Pumpkin from the first area of the Catacomb Dungeon. As the Boss released a huge amount of yellow, orange, and...white exp!!! Now that's a welcomed reward, as they absorb it the weaker one in spirit level up, along with all of their life stat.
Laharl used his scarf to collect and store the Boss' body. But to his surprise there wasnt a new waypoint appearing in the chamber. He hummed, thinking that it could be possible this is the last level of easy dungeon. But then he asked out loud, "If this is the final area, what happened when we beat it?" and almost if the dungeon itself answered his question. The center of the room started shake, forcing the young devil to back away, as the floor in a square fashion, was forming a downwards stairway. Seems that Laharl was about to get his answer, placing his sword over his shoulder, he jumped and changed his scarf into wings, spreading them as he dived down to the new room, with the girls right behind him.
REWARD FOR PASSING THE DUNGEON Location Boss Area: Temple Tomb, Secret Chamber
It took a bit but Laharl and the girls reached the bottom of the stairs. They expressed gratitude to Laharl for choosing to swoop down, instead of taking the stairs, it would taken a lot more time. He just followed the basic rule of all down or upward stairways in game, if you can survive take the fall damage, if not sick it up until you'd reach the next area. The bottom was empty with exception of a path that seems to lead to another chamber, they started making their way through said path. Eventually the entered a light blue lite chamber, with a altar at the other end of the chamber. Laharl, he entered the room without issue, but then he heard Nero yell, "Praetor!!" Turning around he saw that, the girls were right outside the chamber. From the straining that their faces, and bodies are showing, something wasn't letting them pass into the room.
He went back and tried to help them cross through the doorway, but again only he could step into the chamber. He told the girls to wait, and he'll be back once he'd checked out the room. They nodded, and Laharl went to the altar at the other end of the chamber. Climbing up the stairs, and at the top was a light blue sphere on a pedestal in the center. He walked over to it, checking the sphere for a moment before touching it and three screens appeared floating in front of him. Above these screens the small message, that said, that he'd conquered the dungeon, please select a reward. Seems that his Hunter's Exp system also has a reward system for each conquered dungeon. Which meant that it stands to reason, that depending the difficulty level of the dungeon, the quality of rewards would be vastly different. The first one gave him a sword from Cross Edge, which didn't have value to him or his girls. So that was a equipment reward, the next was a free-level stat of his choosing. At this point it was the most valuable, until he read the third reward screen. It was familiar race contract. Binding a low ranking demon or monster from the worlds that make up the dungeon to himself. This was worth it!! Cause this reward limiter didn't matter, cause he wasn't ever going to get any familiar since he saw them useless, with exception of Asia's which did do something in DXD. So either Cross Edge or Disgaea I. He already knew what demons to bind to his service, the iconic mascots of the series, he choose Prinnies as his bound familiar race!!!
