Chapter 44: DSMW [44]
"Hand it over. Spell Card [Polymerization]."
Under the pulse of [Double Spell], the Spell Card that had already faded into Megan's Graveyard reappeared—then arced into Miles's hand along a trail of light.
"Stealing my [Polymerization] from the Graveyard...? Fufu... how amusing. But do you even know how to use it, little cutie?"
Even her mockery dripped with seduction.
Regardless, that charm... was about to be incinerated by HERO power.
"Do I know how to use it? Watch and learn."
With [Polymerization] in hand... victory was already within reach.
"This... is how HEROES fight! Spell Card activate—Polymerization!"
Controlling Irene's body, Miles threw the borrowed [Polymerization] along with the last two HERO monsters in hand toward the skies above the skyscrapers.
As the cards ascended, a swirl of fusion light exploded—HEROes transforming into their true battle forms.
"I fuse [Elemental HERO Avian] and [Elemental HERO Burstinatrix]! Come forth—the 3000-slayer!"
Despite that nickname, this card's real name was one every HERO fan knew.
A HERO who stood atop skyscrapers... a symbol of countless Duelists' dreams—
"Fusion Summon—Elemental HERO Flame Wingman!!"
[Elemental HERO Flame Wingman] Level 6│WIND│Warrior│Fusion│2100 ATK / 1200 DEF
"Flame Wingman... there was a HERO like this?!"
Irene's soul-state self was stunned. She'd never imagined HEROes could be summoned like this. A HERO born through Fusion... something she'd never achieved.
"With 2100 Attack and [Skyscraper] boosting it... It works! Miles, it works!!"
"Let's end this, Ren!"
"Yeah... I'm counting on you, Miles!"
Entering the Battle Phase, Miles raised his arm toward the top of the skyscraper.
"Let's carve this victory with a HERO's strike! Field Spell [Skyscraper]—activate!"
[Skyscraper Field Spell Effect: If an "Elemental HERO" monster battles a monster with higher ATK, the "Elemental HERO" gains 1000 ATK during damage calculation only.]
2100 + 1000 = 3100.
That exact number... was why Flame Wingman earned his nickname as the "3000-slayer."
"Go, Flame Wingman! Smash Archfiend's Manifestation!!"
Flame Wingman's dragon-headed arm ignited, superheating to white-hot intensity. With a surge of burning wings, he dove from the rooftop—crashing down like a meteor.
"—Skyscraper Shoot!!"
The explosion engulfed the demonic titan, flames consuming it entirely.
A crimson blaze lit up the skyscraper-studded night, glowing with the radiance of every HERO player's dreams.
[Megan, LP: 2600 → 2500]
Only 100 points of damage, just enough to set Megan's black cloak smoldering—no serious physical harm in the Shadow Game.
"Hmph. Barely a scratch. You think that's enough to defeat my demon? [Archfiend's Manifestation] activates its parting effect—"
[If this Fusion Summoned card you control is sent to your GY by an opponent's card: You can Special Summon 1 "Summoned Skull" from your hand, Deck, or GY.]
"I'll revive [Summoned Skull] from the Graveyard. This duel is far from over!"
"Stop deluding yourself. Look closely—your [Summoned Skull] isn't coming back."
"...What?!"
No response. As the demon's body crumbled to ash, the monster that should've appeared—never did.
"What... what's going on?!"
Megan smacked her Elves' Eyes like it was malfunctioning.
"Don't bother. Let me explain." Miles's grin was sharp, full of swagger, stretching across Irene's delicate face. "You're already dead."
"BAKANA!?"
"And now... for [Elemental HERO Flame Wingman]'s bonus effect!"
Without pause, Flame Wingman rocketed forward, weaving between the towering skyscrapers, closing the gap to Megan.
The other reason behind the nickname "3000-slayer"—
[If this card destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: Inflict damage to your opponent equal to that monster's original ATK.]
"[Archfiend's Manifestation] had 2500 ATK before its buff. Flame Wingman's effect turns that into damage—straight to you!"
"Turning Attack... into damage..."
Terrified, Megan glanced at her LP display.
[Megan, LP: 2500]
Not a point more. Not a point less.
Lethal.
It was as if this whole duel had been perfectly calculated for this outcome.
"Erase the darkness—EXECUTE JUSTICE! This is a HERO's ultimate finisher!! Zero-range blast—Skydive Scorcher!!"
The flames detonated right in her face. Megan's elegant, seductive figure vanished beneath the inferno.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!"
Her shriek echoed through the fire—the rightful punishment for one who had embraced the darkness.
[Megan, LP: 2500 → 0]
"—Execution complete."
A victory line—perfectly fitting for a HERO.
Using his dream HERO deck to recreate an anime-worthy finisher in another world... Miles couldn't have asked for more.
Though truthfully, his satisfaction was nothing compared to how ecstatic Irene was.
"We won! We actually won the Shadow Game!! Miles—you really kept your promise... You won!!"
"Heh... but I couldn't have done it alone, Ren. It was because of your fight until now that the HEROes could claim victory."
If Irene hadn't survived until Miles and Aisha arrived—if she hadn't chipped Megan's LP down to the lethal line—then this stylish Flame Wingman finish wouldn't have been possible.
"This is our victory, Ren. You should be proud."
"!!!"
If souls had faces... Irene's soul would be so red right now, she'd be trying to dig a hole and hide in it.
