Dragon Soul System

Chapter 5: Chapter 004 - The Twofold

'Argggggh! Frickin' hell, I'm faaaaallliing!'

As Shay plummeted through the skies to whatever lay below him, it felt like an eternity. He promised to be a man to those around him, especially his sister. The rules, 'fake it 'til you make it' were etched thoroughly on his brain.

Therefore, a stoic look appeared on his brazen face, and he was screaming mentally like a little child. The twofold indifference sometimes made him indubitably question himself.

'What is wrong with these dragons?'

As he continued to fall through the air, time began to slow- it felt like an eternity. Slowly, he began to feel a wind gently push him towards the left as he fell through the air.

'What, they want me to go through a cloud? Don't they know that humans can't do that?'

He quickly sucked in all the air he could before smacking against the watery surface. Clinching his chin with his elbows and his nose with his fingers and being super tight against the stress of his daily life, he just barely managed to keep his holes shut.

Doing a pencil dive through the cloud, he managed to save himself- just barely.

As he popped out the other end, he saw something- it was a bright green fluxuating neon light that denoted the premise of a D-Rank Portal.

'I guess they're sending me back? Wait. Back to where I was means… ASPHALT?!?!'

His speed began to heighten as he plummeted towards the portal below. His stoic nature never pausing, words that should never be repeated poured through his never-ending mind.

He finally neared the portal to slam into the asphalt. He took it like a man- spread-eagled to minimize the blow, head tucked, praying for 'something, anything' to cushion his fall.

Luckily, unbeknownst to him, the dragons began to cushion his fall. But he didn't know, and as he prepared to faceplant…. He did.

"Shay?"

'What? Oh, there's somebody watching me.'

Shay stood up proud as he brushed off his immaculate black t-shirt. "Hello." He replied, succinctly.

"Shay, what just happened?" Lila asked again.

"I recently unlocked a new skill on my skill tree. It's called 'Portals Like You.' The skill description is blank. …I still don't know what just happened. 1 second, blam! The next, ptuh! Like, yeah, so I have no idea."

"Ptsh!" The normally quiet girl nearly broke out laughing before putting herself back together. "You were only gone for a couple seconds. But hey, look behind you."

Shay turned around, only to see a giant haze of wreckage strewn about. In the new world, portals were finnicky. On one side, 'Pass through other dimensions here.' On the other side, "I am impermeable. Hit me with a hammer and I'll break your arm."

It appeared that the portal to the dragon realm had both saved his life and annhilated the truck. He had taken out the boss?

"…Did I get the final kill?"

"Yep." Lila was quick to confirm.

The other members of the dungeon raid walked towards him. Emilio popped up nearby, but the rest slowly approached.

"Thanks for saving our lives." One of the E-rank players mentioned. "We're indebted to you." Another one added. As they alll swore their undying allegiance, Emilio poked in from the side.

"All is fair. It would still have been an extremely hard fight without your timely assistance, so you can have the drops if you'd like. Oh, and as for the goblin drops, I already picked them all up. We can split those up through the party. You can keep the ones you already collected."

Lila merely smiled at him, but her purpose was clear. Crash and Goro both died in the …crash, sooo…

"I thank you all for your righteousness." Shay replied simply, realizing that this was a one-time event of the heart. While he made sure to initiate friendships with those in his personal life, those in his work life… tended to give him the cold shoulder. Or the hot one, like Goro.

Turning around, he walked towards the passenger-side door. While he couldn't pick up soul-drops, he could pick up the drops that fell on the ground. Rummaging through the wreckage, he managed to find two items. One was a totem, and the other was a small cylinder.

On the goblin boss, he found a scroll, a blowgun, and several unused pellets. He carefully grabbed the pellets with a yet-to-be-used bag. If it had poison, the bag would be forever untouchable. But if not, he would gain from it for a while.

After grabbing what they could and doling out the loot, everybody walked back through the portal to Earth.
