Dragon Queen and Dragon Slayer

Chapter 250: Chapter 405: General Leon on the Stage

Leon froze, carefully pondering Constantine's words.

It did seem... somewhat reasonable.

Seeing Leon remain silent, Constantine snorted coldly, "If there's no reason that can convince me, then please leave."

Leon's mind raced. Seeing that Old Con was about to send him off, at the critical moment, ding—an invisible light bulb lit up above his head.

"You help me, and I'll give you the specific usage method of the Primordial Power."

"Think about it."

"An entire library full of primordial magic tomes."

"When do we depart?"

Back in the early days in the Dragon-Slaying Army, Master didn't allow Leon to interfere too much in politics or leadership matters.

But even so, General Leon still learned one crucial workplace skill:

Selling dreams.

———

When Rossweise saw Leon walking out of the forest with a smile, she knew that this guy had successfully convinced Constantine.

And the method of persuasion he used was definitely something no normal person could think of.

The queen crossed her arms, a faint smile on her lips, gaze following Leon until he stopped in front of her. Then she asked,

"He agreed?"

Leon nodded, "Of course."

"How did you convince him? Still the same as last time?"

"Mm… no, moral coercion doesn't work on Constantine anymore, so I used another trick."

Rossweise raised her eyebrows, immediately intrigued.

You had to know, the infamous Crimson Flame Dragon King was known to reject both hard and soft approaches, an absolute egotist.

And Leon and Constantine weren't strangers either. It was already a miracle if they didn't fight upon meeting.

Yet somehow, in that situation, Leon didn't use moral coercion but still managed to get Constantine to agree.

Rossweise really was curious what that dog of a man had done.

"I told him that once we're done with the Empire, I'll give him an entire library of primordial magic tomes."

Rossweise blinked, "But we only have Soul Judgment in our hands. Where are we going to get the rest of the tomes?"

Leon spread his hands, "Just draw the big pie first. We'll talk about it after things are done."

Rossweise helplessly shook her head and smiled, "You sure picked up a lot more than just fighting after staying in my Silver Dragon Temple all these years."

Low EQ: Selling dreams

High EQ: Crafting a grand goal to facilitate cooperation

Only now did General Leon realize that as long as you could run your mouth, you could thrive in an Empire-style workplace.

No wonder back when they graduated from the Dragon-Slaying Academy, so many people fought tooth and nail to get clerical jobs in the capital. Safer, well-paid, and way more relaxed than risking your life on the battlefield like Leon and the other slayers.

Still, Leon didn't really regret it.

The world he had seen after years of fighting in the north and south was something you'd never glimpse sitting behind a desk.

More importantly, sitting behind a desk didn't get you a dragon wife who gives you kids.

Speaking of kids, Leon said, "Let's go home. Let's visit the girls one more time before heading to the Empire."

This journey did involve certain dangers. Otherwise, Leon wouldn't have risked coming to Old Con for help.

So a "pre-battle farewell" was necessary.

Not to set a flag, and not because this Empire trip was doomed to be a one-way ride.

Leon and Rossweise just wanted peace of mind.

Their daughters were the most cherished part of their hearts. No matter when or where, as long as they thought about those precious ones waiting for Mom and Dad to come home, they could endure any crisis.

Rossweise nodded, then transformed into her dragon form, taking Leon with her as they soared into the night sky toward home.

———

"So after you ended the dragon clan's civil war, the dragons entered a century-long peaceful era?", In the dim gold-colored waterway, Noah's History Mini-Class was in session again.

The white giant dragon lazily lay in front of the girl, speaking slowly, "Yes. That was the most united and powerful era for the dragons. No internal worries, no external threats, abundant resources, and overall combat strength a tier higher than the dragons now."

Noah spread her hands, "But now the dragons are not only fragmented inside but also fighting wars on various fronts outside. Especially against the human Empire, which is extremely brutal."

"Seems like during the ten thousand years I slept, the dragon race, and even the entire Samael continent, has undergone quite the change."

The Ancestor seemed a little sentimental.

'Back in my day, such a big dragon clan… how did it become like this?'

'Truly, the waves push forward the old with the new, but the new waves just… started slacking off halfway.'

"Your awakening is to stop the final 'Fear of all Things.' Even though I don't know what that is, and you won't explain it clearly, I want to remind you: before 'Fear of all Things' descends—"

Noah's tone was steady, neither humble nor overbearing, just like her mom, carved from the same mold, "—there will be more troubles on this continent."

Saint Heath Academy's hatchling division also had history classes. Though they were quite basic, Noah would privately read extracurricular books to fill the gaps in her classroom understanding.

One reason was that little honor student Noah liked to study;

The other was that she could go home and explain the fun knowledge to Little Light.

That way, the pink fluffball wouldn't keep rambling about her second personality or whatever.

But back to the point.

The Ancestor didn't seem particularly surprised after Noah's reminder.

"This generation's crisis should be solved by this generation. My goal is only Fear of all Things."

The Ancestor's thinking wasn't bad, basically the same as Grandma Veronica's, they both wanted the next generation of young people to lead a new world.

Though the thought was good, her words did come across as a bit... cold.

Noah was still young. She could understand the surface-level meaning but not the deeper one.

"You were able to stop the dragon clan's internal war back then, so why now do you only care about that so-called Fear of all Things? The shadows hidden all across the continent could also affect the dragons."

Noah didn't mean to morally judge the Ancestor. She was just confused, why would the Primordial Dragon King, revered as a hero, seem so stubborn after awakening from a ten-thousand-year sleep?

But hearing Noah's question, the Ancestor grew a bit displeased.

Still, she didn't get angry at Noah, nor did she answer directly. She just turned her dragon eyes away, looking toward the calm water surface, "I'll tell you when you grow up."

"Don't treat me like a kid."

"Hmph, but you are a kid right now."

"No—ah!—"

Knock! Knock! Knock!

The knocking pulled Noah out from the consciousness space and back to reality.

She slowly opened her eyes, but the Ancestor's line, "you are a kid right now", still buzzed around her ears like a fly.

Noah irritably sat up in bed, then took a few deep breaths to calm down.

'Forget it, forget it. I won't argue with an ancient dragon. I'm a good little dragon of the new era!'

After adjusting her mood, Noah did a tiger-roll off the bed, bare feet padding over to open the bedroom door.

As soon as she opened the door, a tuft of pink filled her vision.

Little Light leaned in close, her big eyes just inches from Noah's nose, whispering mysteriously,

"Big sis, just now… you were talking to that ghost, right?"

"...What ghost? I don't understand."

Little Light (leans closer again), "Really? But I clearly heard you saying something about... 'child' or whatever…"

Noah leaned back slightly, "That was… me talking in my sleep."

Little Light (leans even closer ×3), "Big sis, you sure—"

Noah raised her little hand and plastered it onto her little sister's face, gently pushing her out of the bedroom, "You were about to kiss me, Little Light. I really was just talking in my sleep."

The pink fluffball shook her head, "Fine, fine. But tell that ghost to watch out! I, Aurora, will one day drag it out!"

"..."

Noah had a premonition that this summer vacation wasn't going to be peaceful.

'Oh well, let the little sister be.'

"So, what is it, Little Light?"

"Mom and Dad are back! Second sister already went over. Let's go too."

"Okay, let's go."

The two sisters went to the dining room. A hearty dinner had already been prepared.

After two days, they finally had Mom and Dad back home.

"Good evening, Noah, Little Light."

"Good evening, Dad, Mom~", The pink fluffball greeted them while climbing into the kid's seat beside Leon.

"Evening, Dad, Mom."

Noah calmly greeted them too, then sat in her seat, "Was the border patrol smooth?"

Every time they went to the mountain stream cave to exchange info with Master, Leon and Rossweise would use "border patrol" as the excuse.

But they vaguely felt that this excuse didn't really work on Noah.

Because their eldest daughter always believed they were using patrols as an excuse to sneak off and go on a date.

Oh well, as long as Noah didn't notice anything fishy, it was fine.

And if she really thought of them as "lovey-dovey parents who sneak off for dates," that was a pretty nice misunderstanding.

"Went smoothly," Leon replied.

"Mhm."

Noah responded, then picked up her fork and knife to begin eating.

But with her keen sense, she noticed something... was off about tonight's dinner table atmosphere.

Luna and Little Light's spots were closer to Mom and Dad than usual.

There were also lots of dishes that Luna liked but were usually restricted for health reasons, now all of them had been served.

Then she looked at Leon and Rossweise.

Even though they were busy helping the two younger sisters with food, caring and asking about studies, Noah still felt... like they had something to say.

Noah's little brain spun, and she said, "Dad, I hit a bottleneck with the Thunderwolf Breaker move you taught me last time. Can you guide me again tomorrow?"

"Ah, that... no rush, Noah. Thunderwolf Breaker is a high-level spell it's normal to hit a bottleneck."
