Chapter 238: Chapter 393: Faster than Bullet
This was practically the innate Holy Physique of bush-camping.
A rare chance to catch her breath, Rebecca hurriedly used the time to recover her stamina.
She leaned against the shrubbery and closed her eyes slightly.
Her thighs and ankles trembled lightly without stop; the exhaustion had drained her so badly she couldn't even grip the gun in her hand properly.
Rebecca checked the remaining bullets in her magazine.
"Only four left, huh."
She was somewhat in despair.
A gunner's greatest reliance was their weapon. If it came down to close combat, she wasn't even remotely a match for the Blade Trio.
After all, those three could eliminate Dragon Kings, just like Leon once did.
Her Old Man had gone all out just to sever one of their arms, buying them only a little time to escape.
But it was just a delaying tactic. The trio had quickly discovered them.
Now, Rebecca's only hope was that the captain could arrive in time and take her Old Man away.
As for herself…
Rebecca gently rested her little head on the shrub. The ties on her twin tails had come loose, and her smooth cyan hair spilled down, giving her a fragile and shattered sort of beauty.
"As long as I can get the evidence to the captain... he'll definitely be able to overthrow that dog emperor."
From the moment she chose to side with Leon, Rebecca had expected to end up like this.
The road had been fulfilling, bit by bit exposing the Empire's conspiracies, founding the Lionheart Society, even becoming friends with that beautiful sister-in-law.
If she had one regret, it was probably that she never got to hold the captain and sister-in-law's three adorable daughters.
And… that she wouldn't get to see the day when the captain clears his name and topples the Empire.
"Well, no matter how you put it... I guess I can die without regrets."
She comforted herself, forcing her exhausted body to slowly stand up.
Rustling leaves once again sounded overhead.
The next second—shua, shua, shua—three figures landed around Rebecca, surrounding her in a triangle formation.
"Finally caught up to you, little girl."
The Blade Trio's captain, Blade One, stepped out from the shadows with a confident smile.
Rebecca raised her pistol and aimed at Blade One's brow, pulling the trigger without hesitation.
BANG!
A shot rang out, but Blade One was unscathed.
A white cluster of magical energy hovered in front of him, blocking the bullet.
"As one of the Empire's former top gunners, you should know that without enchantments, bullets can't pierce a magic barrier."
Blade One chuckled and continued, "Or could it be... you're too tired to enchant your bullets anymore?"
Her reply to Blade One's mockery was two more bullets.
But just as Blade One said, non-enchanted bullets could never pierce a magic barrier.
"Empire-standard pistol, magazine holds 13 rounds. From the time we started fighting hours ago until now, you've fired 12."
Blade One spoke unhurriedly, "So, little girl, you've got one bullet left, right?"
"Captain, stop wasting time talking to her. Let me chop off this brat's arm first, then we can interrogate her about Tiger's whereabouts," said the one-armed third member, eager for revenge.
"Don't be impatient, Blade Three. Don't you enjoy watching prey's expressions of despair?"
Blade One folded his arms and walked slowly toward Rebecca, "I quite like that look in her eyes, so stubborn, yet so hopeless."
The trio who had slaughtered multiple Dragon Kings on the battlefield, it was almost too easy for them to surround a single gunner.
But they preferred the thrill of toying with their prey.
Just like those dragons they tortured to death on the battlefield.
Watching those pitiful things kneel and beg gave them unprecedented satisfaction.
Having emerged from thousands of candidates, undergone hellish training, and finally risking death from bodily explosion to merge with Primordial Force, it was all for moments like this.
So Blade One would savor every single hunt.
"Little girl, if you tell us where Tiger is right now, I might put in a good word for you when we get back to Lord Scott. Maybe you'd even be spared."
Rebecca's tense face suddenly relaxed. She sneered and retorted with contempt, "Since you want to know where my dad is so badly, I'll just make sure not to tell you, you damn pervert."
"How ungrateful."
Blade One came to a stop, his eyes sharp and murderous as they scanned the girl before him.
"Rebecca Clement. Former Empire Anti-Dragon Army First Squad gunner. Later committed multiple assaults within the Empire and spread false information. You are now wanted for treason. If you resist, we are authorized to use force against you."
Rebecca's brows furrowed, cyan eyes flashing fiercely as she stared back at Blade One and said clearly and precisely, "Go. To. Hell."
"So you're determined to resist. Fine. That gives us the right to use force. Blade Three, you may proceed."
"Been waiting for that, Captain!"
One-armed third member Blade Three stepped forward, slowly gathering Primordial Force in his left hand.
Rebecca glanced sideways.
That level of magical energy, if it hit her directly, she'd be crippled in an instant.
And then these bastards would have all kinds of ways to dig the intel about the captain and her Old Man out of her mind.
Rebecca would never let them get away with that.
"You three freaks, the captain will never let you off."
"The captain? Leon Casmodeous? Heh, don't worry. After you die, he'll be joining you soon."
After a pause, Blade One added, "Of course, only after we extract the info from your brain."
"Heh… you'll never get anything from me!", With a roar, Rebecca suddenly raised her pistol.
The trio thought she was shooting at them again and immediately activated their magic barriers.
But to their shock, Rebecca pointed the muzzle at her own temple.
"You're right. I've only got one bullet left. And it's not enchanted. It can't pierce your barriers, but it can pierce my own head."
She'd always been a crazy girl. If she had to die, she'd choose the way she went.
Blade One's heart tensed. He quickly shouted, "Stop her! If this crazy brat dies, we'll never find Tiger!"
With that, the three of them lunged at Rebecca.
But no matter how fast the Blade Trio was, they were no match for Rebecca's point-blank trigger pull.
Her finger slowly squeezed, eyes gently closed.
A single tear slid from the corner of her eye. Smiling faintly, she whispered, "Goodbye, Leon."
Blade One and the others dove at her from three directions.
The moment she pulled the trigger, time seemed to stop.
Rebecca could clearly hear the crisp sound of the internal mechanism clicking, the bullet chambering, the muzzle flashing dark flame, the copper-colored round spinning toward her fragile skull.
"Damn it!"
Blade One cursed as he lunged.
He never imagined this girl would go so far to stop them from interrogating her.
Primordial Force had enhanced Blade One's senses, strength, regeneration, magical power, and speed.
But not even that made him faster than a bullet at point-blank range.
'Damn it!'
No one in the world could outrun a bullet.
That was just fantasy.
And just as Blade One questioned his speed, a streak of blue lightning suddenly slashed across his vision without warning.
Its speed was staggering.
The flash of lightning kicked up a cloud of dust, forcing the trio back several meters.
Once they reached a safe distance, Blade One looked toward Rebecca.
The dust gradually cleared. The black pistol had fallen to the ground.
And the bullet that should've blown through Rebecca's head was embedded in a tree trunk to the right.
Looking down, a man had shielded Rebecca beneath him.
Blue arcs of lightning danced on his body. He slowly stood, confirming Rebecca was still alive, then let out a relieved breath.
Still dazed, Rebecca opened her eyes and stared at the man in disbelief.
The next second, tears burst forth as she hugged him tightly, like a wronged child clinging to someone she trusted most.
Leon gently patted her head.
"All right. It's okay now, Rebecca."
The Blade Trio stared from afar in shock.
'So that's Leon Casmodeous...'
'His speed… actually exceeds a bullet's?'
"How is this possible… How is this possible…"
Even Blade One couldn't quite believe what just happened.
With the trio empowered by Primordial Force, they were arguably the strongest humans alive.
But this man… seemed even stronger.
"Wanna try riding a dragon, Rebecca?", Leon asked gently.
"W-What?"
"Sorry. Brace yourself."
"Ah? AAAAAAH HEY!"
Before Rebecca could react, Leon tossed her small body into the air.
Immediately, a silver figure soared past and caught her steadily.
When Rebecca opened her eyes again, she was lying on the back of a dragon.
"S-Sis-in-law… Sis-in-law!!"
"Hold on tight. We're going to wait for Leon somewhere else."
"Mmhmm!"
Rosweisse flapped her dragon wings and accelerated again, flying away from the forest.
Meanwhile in the woods, Leon stood before the Blade Trio, but had no intention of fighting them.
He and Rosweisse had been on the way to the mountain cave when they heard the commotion and came to investigate.
And just in time, they'd found Rebecca being hunted by the trio.
Clearly, their master's whereabouts had been exposed.
