Chapter 16: Training in the other world
With a forced smile on his face and sweat streaming down his forehead due to the strenuous training imposed by Master Kai, Kaelor decided to start a conversation to ease the tension.
"So, Master Kai, how do you organize a space party?" Kaelor asked, trying to mask his exhaustion.
"You planet!"
Kai paused for a moment, holding back his laughter. Soon, with an excited expression, he encouraged:
"Keep going, kid! I want to hear more of those puns!"
Kaelor, realizing he had hit the right tone, continued:
"Why was the computer cold? Because it left its windows open."
This time, Kai couldn't hold back his laughter. Laughing uncontrollably, he even rolled on the ground, while Kaelor watched the scene, feeling awkward.
After all, he knew the puns weren't the best, but compared to what Kai was used to hearing, they seemed like masterpieces of humor.
When Kaelor finally completed the thousand push-ups ordered and Kai managed to compose himself, the young man took the opportunity to ask a question that intrigued him.
"Master Kai, why did I feel so much difficulty adapting to this place's gravity?"
With a relaxed expression, Kai replied:
"My planet has a gravity ten times stronger than Earth's."
Kaelor, now doing push-ups with just one finger and still sweating profusely, countered:
"My home planet also has a gravity ten times stronger, but I didn't struggle to move there."
Intrigued, Kai asked:
"You're not an Earthling?"
Kaelor paused for a moment and answered seriously:
"No, I fled my planet. The king there was a tyrannical and maniacal ruler. He planned to eliminate me, so I escaped to survive."
Kai, with clenched fists and a furious expression at Kaelor's suffering, asked:
"What's your planet, and who is this king?"
Kaelor stared at him, his eyes filled with bitter memories, and replied:
"My home planet is called by several names, but the Saiyans call it Planet Vegeta. And the king is King Vegeta."
Kai remained silent for a moment, absorbing Kaelor's words, before murmuring:
"So you're a Saiyan..."
The atmosphere grew heavier, filled with a mix of tension and growing respect between the two.
Kaelor, noticing what Kai was thinking, added:
"Actually, I'm a hybrid of Saiyan and Tuffle, the original race of Planet Vegeta."
Kai processed the words but quickly corrected:
"Original race? No... You're colonizers too."
Kaelor, surprised, exclaimed loudly:
"What?"
"Yes, the native race of Planet Plant were the Plant-seijin. They were wiped out by the Tuffles."
Kaelor, shocked, realized he didn't know this part of history. He felt uncomfortable and stopped training for a moment.
After reflecting, he concluded something simple and pragmatic:
"It's a dog-eat-dog world out there."
There was no benefit in being upset by negative news unless he was directly involved.
Excessive compassion for strangers could be harmful. The best course of action was to maintain emotional moderation.
With that thought, Kaelor resumed training with renewed determination. Kai, noticing that he had calmed down, decided to answer Kaelor's initial question.
"The reason you were affected by my planet's gravity, even after living on Planet Vegeta, is that Saiyans and Tuffles adapted to the gravity there. However, you lived elsewhere for a long time, and your body adjusted to that planet's gravity. To readapt to a harsher gravity, you need to increase your power level or wait for your body to adjust naturally."
With Kai's explanation, Kaelor understood his situation and decided to push himself even harder, determined to make the most of the gains he could achieve through training under increased gravity.
After finishing the physical training and feeling more confident, Kaelor was catching his breath when Kai approached him with a serious expression.
"We're going to increase the difficulty of your training now," Kai said directly, handing him a set of weights.
"You'll wear these and chase after Bubbles, the monkey, until you catch him."
Kaelor raised an eyebrow, analyzing the weights on the ground. With a smug smile, he muttered to himself:
"Weights? Ha! This is going to be a walk in the park."
Without hesitation, he bent down to pick up the weights. However, as he tried to lift them, his smile vanished. The load seemed glued to the ground.
Confused, Kaelor turned to Kai and asked:
"Master Kai... Are these really mine? They won't budge an inch!"
Kai crossed his arms, a mischievous smile appearing on his face.
"Yes. Don't worry, just put them on."
Determined, Kaelor gathered all his strength and managed to put on the weights. When he took his first step, it felt as if he had tied mountains to his legs.
His body almost collapsed under the crushing weight, and he struggled to avoid passing out.
"These weights... They're as heavy as lead! How the hell did he do this?"
Despite the difficulties, Kaelor began to adapt. The chase after Bubbles became a true ordeal.
With each step, he mentally created new insults for the blue-skinned man who watched him from afar, unfazed.
The moments of rest between attempts were divine relief, and Kaelor clung to them to keep going.
After countless attempts and tremendous effort, he finally managed to catch the monkey.
Exhausted but triumphant, Kaelor couldn't resist venting his frustration. With a precise kick, he sent Bubbles flying a few meters.
"That's for the hell you put me through, you furry menace!"
From a distance, Kai just laughed, satisfied with his student's progress.
Kai approached Kaelor and carefully evaluated his power level.
"His power has grown impressively," he murmured to himself. "Pitting Gregory against him would be a trivial challenge now. However, he's not ready to learn the Spirit Bomb. Despite having a good heart, he's not pure enough."
Turning to Kaelor, Kai spoke in a grave tone:
"Kaelor, I'm going to teach you an extremely powerful but also very dangerous technique. Its name is Kaio-ken."
Kaelor raised an eyebrow, intrigued.
"Kaio-ken multiplies your power level to degrees that can turn the tide of any battle. However, it requires absolute control, and any mistake can be fatal. That's why I avoid teaching this technique."
After a brief pause, Kai flashed a slight smile.
"But you're an exception. Your vitality is impressive, and your Ki control is among the best I've ever seen. That makes you an excellent candidate."
Kaelor nodded, determined. He knew this was a unique opportunity.
Kai then began explaining the technique in detail, describing the energy flow, the risks, and the nuances required to activate Kaio-ken safely.
Kaelor listened attentively, absorbing every word with seriousness, his expression focused.
After some time, Kaelor attempted to execute the technique for the first time. He closed his eyes, felt the Ki flowing through his body, and, with a burst of red energy, successfully activated Kaio-ken.
The intensity of the power was incredible, but Kaelor remained steady. Controlling Kaio-ken required precision and caution, yet he didn't face major difficulties.
"Impressive, Kaelor," commented Kai, surprised by the young man's ease.
Kaelor opened his eyes, still feeling the vibrant energy coursing through his body.
"I think I owe this to my Tuffle side. I've always been good at multitasking. Controlling Kaio-ken seems like a matter of dividing attention properly."
Kai crossed his arms, evaluating him with a satisfied look.
"This is just the beginning, Kaelor. If you keep this up, you'll be able to master Kaio-ken completely and turn it into a decisive weapon in any battle."
Smiling, Kai murmured about how it was a shame Kaelor couldn't learn the Spirit Bomb. Upon hearing this, Kaelor immediately interrupted:
"What do you mean I can't learn the Spirit Bomb?"
Kai, with a disappointed smile, replied:
"Unfortunately, you don't have a pure heart."
Kaelor quickly interrupted Kai's monologue and retorted:
"That's slander! I'm among the most virtuous beings in the universe! If anything, even you, Kai, aren't as virtuous and pure-hearted as I am!"
Noticing Kai getting irritated, Kaelor changed his approach. He decided to highlight how Kai was an excellent teacher and expressed confidence that he could learn the technique.
With a slight, provocative, and mischievous smile, Master Kai replied:
"Very well. I'll teach you the Spirit Bomb. However..." He thought to himself, not hiding a mischievous air:
"You're going to fail miserably, and I'm going to have a lot of fun with it. Hahaha."
Kaelor, noticing Kai's expression, asked suspiciously:
"What did you say?"
Kai, startled, thought:
"Did I say that out loud?"
Coughing lightly to cover his embarrassment, Kai asked Kaelor to sit on the ground and began instructing him:
"Try to feel the Ki of the living beings on this planet."
Concentrating, Kaelor first focused on the Kis he recognized easily: Master Kai's, Bubbles', and Gregory's. Then, he turned his attention to the plants and trees.
"I did it, Master Kai!"
Not surprised at that moment, Master Kai asked him to calmly and subtly try to draw energy without taking too much and accumulate it in his hands.
Kai expected Kaelor to fail at this stage, as the traditional method required a deep spiritual connection with living beings to instinctively collect energy.
However, Kaelor took a less conventional path. Using his intellect, enhanced by his Tuffle ancestry, he calculated a precise formula to gradually extract energy without needing to emotionally connect with living beings.
Kai, watching Kaelor accumulate energy, was shocked. Fearing he might interfere, he chose to watch as the energy grew stronger and stronger.
When it reached an impressive level, he finally stepped in to stop the process.
"You did it, Kaelor! You executed the Spirit Bomb! The difficulty of this technique lies in connecting spiritually with living beings, and you found your own way to achieve that!"
Kai smiled, acknowledging his earlier mistake:
"I was wrong about you. You are, in fact, virtuous!"
Beaming with success, Kaelor asked a fundamental question:
"Alright, Master Kai, but... what do I do with this massive energy concentrated in my hand?"
Kai hesitated for a moment and then replied with a lighthearted tone:
"Well..."
