Chapter 34: Chapter 34: The Arrival of Golden Frieza
Goku and the others were about to follow Levos when he stopped them with a stern voice.
"Frieza's seen you all before. If you don't want to die for nothing, stay here and protect Dende."
Bulma quickly caught on. "Once the Dragon Balls are restored, the tide will truly turn. When that time comes, relocate quickly. We'll reunite at the Martial Arts Tournament."
The group hesitated, uncertain.
Levos spoke rapidly. "We're not just dealing with Frieza. Babidi and his crew are still lurking in the shadows. Until we know where they are, we must avoid exposing our full strength."
With that, Levos and Bulma leapt from the edge of the Lookout, flying at full speed toward the source of Frieza's energy.
If the Lookout was spotted from Frieza's vantage point, it would inevitably be exposed. And for Earth's warriors, the Lookout wasn't just a sanctuary. It held the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Shenron's statue, Sacred Water, and other vital resources.
This mission was clear. Levos had to intercept Frieza before he got too close.
He was slightly frustrated. There was still so much he hadn't gotten to explain.
The battle strategy was unassigned, the enhancements for the Dragon Balls weren't discussed, and he hadn't even asked about Kaioken or Fusion. He also had a month left in the Time Chamber, originally reserved to master key techniques like Instant Transmission and Kaioken.
But Piccolo's fusion had thrown everything off. Those plans had to be shelved for now.
His top priority was to drive Frieza away and regroup with the others.
As the air howled with speed, Levos and Bulma raced forward.
Moments later, they neared two rapidly approaching power signatures.
"Don't slow down," Levos warned.
Just as the two groups came into visual range, Frieza's side halted mid-air.
Two violet-red beams shot straight at them.
Levos and Bulma instantly raised translucent energy shields.
A deafening boom erupted as the blasts collided with their barriers, sending shockwaves outward. The forest below was flattened, trees snapped like twigs under the force.
Forced to stop, Levos and Bulma hovered mid-air.
"Ohohoho, isn't this Levos himself?" Frieza smirked, amused as he sized them up.
At this distance, Bulma trembled slightly from the oppressive, mountainous aura Frieza exuded.
Levos calmly dismissed his shield. "Lord Frieza, Lord Cold. I didn't expect to find you here. This is my comrade I mentioned earlier. We were just heading to the tournament."
Not seeing Ginyu among them, Levos felt a bit relieved. If Ginyu had been here, he might have recognized Bulma as one of Goku's allies, which could've raised suspicions.
"And what's the name of this stunning young lady?" Frieza asked sweetly, his tone almost gentle.
"I'm Bulma. You must be... Lord Frieza?"
Catching Levos's cue, Bulma lowered her shield too. Her delicate face revealed a hint of genuine awe. It was her first time seeing Frieza in person.
Frieza's monstrous appearance did little to dampen his courteous smile. "Charmed. Levos, you're quite lucky to have such a beauty as your companion."
Levos resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Nothing had happened between him and Bulma, yet Frieza's phrasing made it sound scandalous. Did this tyrant always talk like he was matchmaking?
King Cold cast Bulma a glance and said coldly, "Our army doesn't recruit based on looks, Levos. I hope you understand my meaning."
"Of course. I understand." Levos gave Bulma a signal and said evenly, "Bulma, show them a little of your power."
Bulma got the message. A pure-white energy sphere formed in her palm.
King Cold's eyes widened in surprise as the sphere grew larger and brighter. Soon it resembled a miniature sun, bathing the area in a blinding white light.
Frieza chuckled with admiration. "Hohoho, what power! If that explodes, I imagine it would make quite the lovely firework."
King Cold narrowed his eyes. "That's enough, Bulma. I acknowledge your strength."
"But... I don't know how to stop it!" Bulma said in a panicked voice. "Levos! What do I do?!"
"What?!" Levos shouted in mock alarm, though a glint of approval flickered in his eyes.
She was good. Really good. In this tight situation, Bulma had cleverly seized an opportunity to stall for time.
The energy sphere kept growing, warping the landscape in its scorching light.
"How could she possess such overwhelming power?" Cold's expression grew grim, his arrogance fading.
Even Frieza's smug smile was slowly disappearing.
The sphere radiated a destructive aura that warped space itself. It was as if they were trapped in a raging storm.
Levos realized it was time to shut it down. If the energy ball detonated now, it might pierce Earth's crust and destroy the planet entirely.
"Lord Frieza, you must stop her," Levos said urgently. "She's losing control. It's about to explode. Earth could be obliterated!"
"What? Damn it!" Frieza's eyes bulged. He rushed forward, positioning himself in front of the unstable sphere and spreading his arms wide. "Everyone, get back!!"
Bulma forcefully severed her link with the energy ball just in time, collapsing into Levos's arms.
Frieza's black cloak incinerated under the scorching pressure, revealing his true form. His original, sleek alien physique.
The massive energy sphere pressed down on him, immobilizing his entire body.
"Frieza! Don't try to tank it!" Cold had already retreated to a safer distance.
"I must! Earth... belongs to me!!" Frieza snarled, face twisted with rage, releasing a guttural roar.
GRAAAHHH!!
The Emperor of the Universe, risking his life... to protect Earth?
Levos, holding the fainted Bulma, stared back in disbelief.
Was Frieza seriously about to die from a runaway energy ball?
Suddenly, a golden pillar of light burst into the sky.
It pierced the clouds and shot into the heavens.
The ground quaked violently.
The light was blinding, impossible to look at.
And from within that light, an overwhelming, godlike power surged out, engulfing the entire planet.
Golden Frieza had arrived.
