Chapter 88: CHAPTER 88
c88: Teenagers from the Future
In the blink of an eye, another half year had passed.
In a quiet, uninhabited valley somewhere on Earth, the fabric of space suddenly rippled unnaturally. A large metallic object resembling a Capsule Corp-designed time machine appeared out of thin air, accompanied by a low hum.
The machine descended slowly and landed gently on the grassy terrain. With a soft hiss, the hatch opened, and a teenage boy around fifteen or sixteen years old stepped out. He had lavender-colored hair and carried a longsword sheathed on his back. His serious expression and blue Capsule Corp jacket gave him a distinct, commanding presence.
"Mr. Son Goku will return in three hours. I need to hurry," the boy muttered, checking a small scanner built into his wristwatch. He then compacted the time machine into a Hoi-Poi Capsule and launched himself into the sky with a burst of ki.
Elsewhere, inside a high-tech training chamber, Li Xu was focused on his regimen. His aura flickered with each strike and movement, the air around him trembling from the intensity of his training. Beads of sweat trickled down his face as he worked through a high-gravity simulation.
Suddenly, the space-time ring on his finger shimmered, and a flickering image emerged an ethereal projection of Kane, an agent of the Time Patrol from the Nest of Time.
"Kane? Another mission already?" Li Xu stopped and wiped his sweat with a towel, curious.
"Li Xu, someone has crossed into your timeline from another parallel time stream. Your task is to return him to his native line. Do not allow excessive interference," Kane said with authority.
"So I don't need to erase him?" Li Xu raised an eyebrow. Normally, time travelers risked triggering temporal instability, which often led to more drastic measures.
"No. He's not an invader, nor part of the Dark Demon Realm. He entered by accident using rudimentary time-space tech just send him back," Kane clarified, keeping his tone clipped.
"Where is he now?" Li Xu asked.
"Near Earth's western continent. He's landed already."
Li Xu's thoughts immediately turned speculative. "This timeline... Could it be Future Trunks?" he wondered. The era matched. According to his knowledge, Trunks arrived in the main timeline roughly three years before the Androids appeared, to warn Goku and the others.
"I'll handle it carefully," Li Xu assured Kane, cutting the communication link.
Back in the Nest of Time, Kane scowled, arms crossed.
"Tch. How dare he end my transmission first! Arrogant as ever."
Oblivious to Kane's indignation, Li Xu's interest was now entirely on the visitor Trunks, if his suspicion was correct. According to multiversal rules, the time machine built by Future Bulma did not truly allow backward time travel but instead jumped across parallel timelines. This made each instance of Trunks' arrival a crossing into alternate dimensions rather than a change in his own past.
"I wonder who Trunks' mother is in that timeline," Li Xu murmured to himself, a bit amused. Though logically, it had to be Bulma, the idea of alternate versions of her always sparked a strange curiosity in him.
"I'll just ask him directly." That seemed simplest.
Still, before heading to Trunks' location, Li Xu decided to check in with his own Bulma. Using Space Movement, his personal enhancement of Instant Transmission, he appeared in the laboratory beneath Capsule Corp's headquarters, startling her mid-experiment.
Bulma yelped and nearly dropped the vial she was holding.
"Li Xu! You scared the hell out of me!" she exclaimed, pushing her goggles onto her forehead.
"Husband, when you use Instant Transmission to come over, could you at least give me a heads-up next time? You completely ruined my experiment!" Bulma complained, placing her hands on her hips as she looked at the broken equipment on her lab bench.
"You're right, that's my fault. Let's leave that aside for now there's something interesting I want to show you," Li Xu replied, offering a sheepish smile. In truth, the urgency of the situation hadn't allowed time for a call ahead.
"Something interesting?" Bulma's curiosity was piqued.
"You'll see soon enough," Li Xu said cryptically.
Without giving her more details, he gently wrapped his arms around her and vanished from the lab using his space-warping Instant Transmission, refined beyond the standard technique used by Goku.
---
On a desolate plain far from civilization, Trunks stood waiting, glancing frequently at a digital timer built into his capsule watch. It had already been three hours, and neither Son Goku nor Frieza had appeared.
"What's going on? This isn't how Mom said it would happen," he muttered, clenching his fists.
Growing more anxious, he added, "I can't worry about that now. I need to figure out what's going on in this timeline."
With that, Trunks flared his Super Saiyan aura, sending a shockwave through the plains. A pillar of golden energy erupted skyward, easily detectable to anyone on Earth sensitive to ki.
---
Meanwhile, over at Mount Paozu, a noticeable transformation had occurred. Since their return from Namek, Chichi had sold off several alien spacecraft Goku had recovered, using the money to develop the surrounding land. She had even constructed a large, well-equipped training ground, understanding that keeping Goku close to home meant creating an environment where he could train freely.
At the moment, Goku and Vegeta were sparring fiercely. Neither had transformed, but Goku's base strength, bolstered from his training on Yardrat and later gravity-enhanced sessions, still slightly outmatched Vegeta.
On the sidelines, Gohan and Piccolo observed the match closely.
Suddenly, a massive surge of unfamiliar ki flooded the area, causing both fighters to pause.
"What the... Who is that?" Piccolo's brow furrowed. The energy felt Saiyan, but wasn't one he recognized.
"It's almost like Dad's Super Saiyan ki... but not quite the same," Gohan said, gripping the edge of the observation railing.
"Another Super Saiyan? That's the third one now!" Piccolo exclaimed, annoyed. Once thought legendary, Super Saiyans were beginning to seem commonplace.
Goku's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Incredible! I want to meet him!"
"Kakarot, don't get ahead of yourself! That Saiyan is my opponent!" Vegeta barked. A true Saiyan, Vegeta longed for a rival who could match him and force him to grow stronger.
"Vegeta, we don't even know if he's a threat yet," Goku reminded him calmly.
"Dad, let's go see what's happening," Gohan urged.
"Right," Goku nodded. Everyone gathered around him and placed their hands on his shoulders. In a flash, they vanished via Instant Transmission, arriving moments later near the source of the energy burst.
---
As the golden aura subsided, Trunks found himself facing two groups of people. One included Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, and Vegeta. The other, arriving just a split-second later, consisted of Li Xu and Bulma.
"Mr. Son Goku! Master Gohan! Father!" Trunks called out, clearly emotional. The relief on his face was evident.
Then he noticed Bulma. "Wait... who are the others? I don't remember Mom mentioning them."
"Li Xu, you came too!" Goku said with a cheerful wave.
"Hmph." Vegeta crossed his arms and looked away with a scowl, still bitter about being humiliated by Li Xu during their last encounter.
"Who are you?" Goku asked, turning to Trunks with a kind yet curious gaze.
"Hello, Mr. Son Goku," Trunks greeted respectfully.
"You know me?" Goku blinked. He was certain they had never met.
He turned to Li Xu. "Do you know who this kid is?"
"He's a time traveler from a parallel timeline. I've come to bring him back," Li Xu said matter-of-factly.
"Parallel timeline?" Goku scratched his head, clearly confused.
Li Xu turned to Trunks, voice firm. "Trunks, by crossing timelines, you've violated the temporal laws. You need to return with me to face the Time Patrol for proper evaluation." He gestured to the Time Ring on his finger, a symbol only few in the multiverse would recognize.
Trunks stepped back, shocked. "How do you know my name?!"
"I'm a registered agent of the Time Patrol. Your unauthorized traversal didn't go unnoticed." Li Xu's tone was official, almost theatrical.
Trunks' shoulders sagged. "This can't be happening..."
"Husband, stop teasing him," Bulma said, rolling her eyes and giving Li Xu a playful nudge. She knew him well enough to see through his act.
Li Xu chuckled. "Alright, alright. No harm meant just doing my job."
