Chapter 142: A Brand New Version of Ye LingLing

Seeing Han Li's amused expression, Qian Renxue couldn't help but feel her eyelid twitch. No wonder her grandfather had repeatedly mentioned in his letters that she must build a good relationship with Han Li. He had said that in the future, not only would Han Li's strength be invaluable, but even his way of thinking would be a great help to her.

This guy was way too skilled at playing outside the rules.

Seeing Qian Renxue remain silent for so long, Han Li found it strange and looked at her. "What's wrong? Did I say something incorrect? Or is there something you didn't understand?"

"No, not at all. I understand what you mean. I'll seriously consider it. What you said does fit the current situation quite well."

Qian Renxue nodded, her expression serious.

"Good, as long as you understand. You have to remember this is ultimately a world of soul masters. In the end, there's only one deciding factor: whoever has the strongest fist is the one who's right. Everything else is just supporting tactics. Strength is what matters most."

Han Li added one last bit of advice. After all, she was a natural ally in the future and more importantly, the kind that didn't need him to manage.

Otherwise, even as the Spirit Hall's Holy Son, he wouldn't have bothered to explain so much to her.

"By the way, your martial soul's fire element has strengthened quite a bit, hasn't it?"

Han Li suddenly asked, recalling something.

"Mm, thanks to the Fiery Apricot Delicate Leaf, my control over flames has improved significantly, and I've also gained several levels."

"Thank you."

Qian Renxue spoke sincerely.

"Mm."

Han Li accepted her gratitude without hesitation as he stood up.

"I should get going. As for our sparring match, just pick a time and place and send someone to inform me."

"Alright, no problem. I'd like to see for myself just how strong you've gotten strong enough for my grandfather to send you after me."

Qian Renxue met his gaze, eyes burning with battle intent.

"You'll find out soon enough."

Han Li chuckled but didn't say anything further to provoke her.

"Alright then, Your Highness. Today's conversation was quite enjoyable."

"But I still have other matters to attend to, so I won't stay longer. I hope I'll have another chance to visit in the future."

Han Li clasped his hands together in a respectful gesture, his voice carrying far.

"Very well, then I won't keep you. You and I get along quite well I'm sure we'll have many opportunities to talk again in the future."

Seeing how his voice had drawn the attention of nearby servants, Qian Renxue seamlessly switched back to her Snowy River persona, walking to Han Li's side to personally escort him to the gate.

"Good, it's a deal."

"A deal."

After another round of formalities, the servants and Dugu Bo arrived nearby.

"Alright, Your Highness, there's no need to see me off. Grandpa Dugu, let's go."

Han Li declined Xue Qinghe's offer to walk him out and turned to Dugu Bo.

Dugu Bo gave Xue Qinghe a small nod before following Han Li out of the Crown Prince's residence and into the Spirit Hall carriage that had been waiting outside.

The moment the carriage door shut, Dugu Bo turned to Han Li with a curious look.

"You two sure had a long chat."

"Well, it was part of my mission. But, Grandpa Dugu, you've lived in Tian Dou City for so long what do you think of Crown Prince Xue Qinghe?"

Han Li responded casually before throwing out a question of his own.

"He has the makings of an emperor, but… he's not ruthless enough."

Dugu Bo, who had spent years close to Prince Xue Xing, was well informed about court affairs. After some thought, he gave his evaluation.

"Mm, that's a fitting description."

Han Li chuckled and didn't elaborate further. In a few days, the old man would understand. It'd be a surprise.

The two chatted idly as the carriage smoothly carried them back to the Spirit Hall.

Meanwhile, at Tian Dou Royal Academy Ye LingLing's Villa

Dugu Yan had excitedly introduced Shui Bing'er and Xiu'er to her dearest friend Ye LingLing. Now, the four of them sat on the sofa, chatting.

"LingLing, you have no idea I've missed you so much these past few years! If your family hadn't stopped me, I definitely would have kidnapped you by now."

Dugu Yan clung to Ye LingLing, rubbing her face against her friend affectionately.

Because they were indoors, and with only close friends around, Ye LingLing had already removed her veil, revealing a cool and elegant face.

A gentle smile played on her lips as she tidied Dugu Yan's hair, her movements soft and careful.

"Yan, you've changed so much in these past few years I almost didn't recognize you."

"As for taking me away… that's impossible. You know my family would never allow it. This is my fate inescapable."

Though she still smiled, her eyes were empty, and her tone was flat, filled with resignation.

"Ugh, LingLing, again with this?"

Dugu Yan sighed in frustration and sat up, giving her friend an exasperated look.

From the moment she had met LingLing, she had always been like this.

To outsiders, Ye LingLing was cold yet kind, but only Dugu Yan knew when she was alone, or with close friends, she would let out these melancholy thoughts.

And now, after four years apart, it seemed even worse.

"Don't worry, Yan I'm fine. I've long since accepted my fate. As a member of the Ye family, this is inevitable. If not me, then someone else. It's both a blessing and a curse."

Ye LingLing's gentle voice carried profound sorrow, making Shui Bing'er and Xiu'er exchange uncertain glances.

They had not expected the current Nine Heart Begonia successor to be so different from their initial impression of her.

Her smiling face did not match her sad words.

Her speech patterns were strange, even a bit dramatic.

It reminded Xiu'er of something Han Li had once mentioned a term he called "edgy."

And that cryptic, brooding way of speaking… it sounded oddly similar to when Han Li was being overly mysterious on purpose.

Dugu Yan frustratedly ruffled her hair, then turned toward Shui Bing'er and Xiu'er with a pleading look.

Shui Bing'er subtly shook her head, signaling that she had no idea how to handle this kind of situation.

Suddenly, Xiu'er's eyes lit up.

She remembered something from the stories Han Li had told her.

"Why don't we take her to see Han Li? Maybe he'll have a way to help."

Hearing this, Dugu Yan's eyes brightened as well.

"That's right! Why didn't I think of that? Han Li is amazing he must have a solution!"

"Spirit Hall's Holy Son? It won't make a difference. I "

Ye LingLing had just started speaking when Dugu Yan grabbed her hand and dragged her toward the door.

"Come on! We're going to see Han Li!"

Shui Bing'er and Xiu'er quickly stood up, grabbing Ye LingLing's forgotten veil before hurrying after them.
