Chapter 140: Chapter 140: There's Something Off About Qian Renxue
Chapter 140: There's Something Off About Qian Renxue
"Oh, don't get the wrong idea."
Han Li quickly raised his left hand, making a "stop right there" gesture.
For a moment, Qian Renxue was actually confused by his attitude.
"You neither support nor oppose me… so why did you specifically come looking for me? Do you think I have time to waste?"
Han Li glanced at Qian Renxue, noting that she was waiting for an explanation, so he spoke:
"I don't know much about your situation, nor do I intend to interfere. Honestly, if it weren't for Master insisting that I come see you, I would've just pretended you didn't exist."
Qian Renxue nodded she understood what he meant.
Yes, pretending not to know her… that did seem like something the man before her would do.
"So, I simply came to meet you and have a little spar."
Seeing Qian Renxue's expression darken, Han Li quickly added:
"This is entirely Master's idea it has nothing to do with me."
"You should know my situation. Ever since I started cultivating, I've always been a peaceful person, never one to initiate battles. Last time was a special case you understand, right?"
Han Li shot her a "this is totally out of my hands" look.
After receiving his helpless expression, Qian Renxue's face softened a little.
Indeed, according to the intelligence she had on Han Li, he rarely engaged in combat.
His recorded fights amounted to exactly one four years ago.
And in all the events within Spirit City, he had remained on the sidelines, behaving like a reclusive cultivator.
Other than his close connection with a few individuals, he rarely interacted with anyone.
...Well, except for having a few too many girls around him.
She silently added that detail in her mind.
After all, whenever Qian Daoliu wrote to her, he always mentioned their progress, clearly trying to shake her confidence.
"So… Grandpa thinks you can beat me?"
As she processed everything, Qian Renxue suddenly realized something, her gaze sharpening as she stared at Han Li.
"Don't look at me I only found out you existed right before leaving. Do you think I'd understand Grandpa's reasoning better than you?"
Han Li immediately threw Qian Daoliu under the bus he was already doing the old man a favor by showing up.
"Looks like I've been underestimated."
Qian Renxue let out a cold laugh, though her frustration wasn't directed at Han Li.
Han Li glanced at her hand her fingers were clenched tightly, clearly displeased.
"Time, place."
Qian Renxue turned back to Han Li, her battle intent burning in her eyes.
"You choose. Pick a time that works for both of us you know this place better than I do."
Han Li casually left the decision to her he wasn't picky about when or where he beat people up.
"Fine. I'll send someone to inform you when it's set."
Qian Renxue agreed immediately, without hesitation.
"Good. By the way, in the palace earlier that was Ning Fengzhi and Sword Douluo, right?"
Han Li shifted the conversation, asking casually.
"Mhm, it was them. Your perception…"
Qian Renxue trailed off, shaking her head.
She completely disregarded Han Li's previous "my spiritual power is only slightly stronger" excuse.
After how easily he exposed Snake Spear and Porcupinefish Douluo, she wasn't even remotely surprised that he noticed Ning Fengzhi and Chen Xin.
"No wonder he's the richest merchant on the continent his sense of opportunity is sharp."
Han Li sighed in admiration, then turned back to Qian Renxue.
"Your teacher must have praised me a lot, huh?"
Qian Renxue smirked.
"Oh, nonstop. Even I started feeling a little competitive… and wary of you."
"Tsk, what a petty mindset. You don't even know me."
Han Li muttered under his breath but he wasn't exactly innocent either.
They were both guilty of forming opinions about each other before ever meeting.
"Your trip away from Spirit City it's not just for the reason you gave earlier, is it?"
"I don't believe that someone like you would leave just because Grandpa told you to."
Qian Renxue had read far too much intelligence on Han Li.
Even though this was only their second official meeting, he didn't feel unfamiliar to her at all.
And from the way he interacted with her, she could sense that he knew her quite well too far beyond the surface level understanding he claimed to have.
It was a woman's intuition.
"Mmm, you're right. After finishing my task in Tian Dou, I plan to travel the continent, broaden my experiences."
Han Li answered honestly it wasn't something that needed hiding.
"Traveling, huh? That's… a great choice."
Qian Renxue looked at his carefree demeanor, her voice tinged with envy.
"You chose your own path, didn't you? You still have the option to change it."
Han Li noticed the longing hidden in her expression and casually pointed it out.
"Yes. I chose this path."
Qian Renxue stared ahead, her voice firm.
Then, she looked at Han Li again.
"But didn't you say you wouldn't try to convince me?"
"Was that convincing? I was just stating facts. For someone of your status and position, I'm simply telling you the truth."
Han Li chuckled.
"Fair point."
Qian Renxue was momentarily startled, then smiled lightly.
She lowered her head, falling into brief silence, before lifting her gaze again.
"I want to know your real opinion about the undercover mission."
Seeing Han Li about to answer, she immediately raised a hand, stopping him.
"And don't use that excuse from before it was too perfunctory. I won't accept it."
Her golden eyes burned into his.
"We may have only met twice, but after reading so much about you, I feel like I know you better than anyone else."
"You should also know that I've never had the chance to interact with many outsiders no one dares speak to me freely."
"But you and I are equals in status and position. I want to hear your true thoughts."
"Don't worry I won't get upset, no matter what you say. I just want to hear it."
Finishing her words, she looked at Han Li a bit nervous, but also expectant.
"This girl sure warms up fast, huh?"
Han Li's mouth twitched slightly under her intense gaze.
"Don't worry."
"I definitely won't take it personally."
Yeah, right.
If he actually believed that, he'd be an idiot.
Whenever a woman says "don't worry", it's never reassuring.
But looking at her expression, Han Li sighed.
She was so repressed, she was about to break.
"Alright then. I won't hold back you better brace yourself."
Since he was going to beat her up later anyway, he might as well collect some early interest.
After all, what could she really do to him?
"Mhm! Speak! I'm listening!"
Qian Renxue nodded enthusiastically, as if afraid Han Li might change his mind.
For a moment… Han Li swore she even looked a little excited.
"Wait… is it just me, or is something seriously off about Qian Renxue?"
