Douluo: The Mysterious System

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Good Sword!

Once Wang Xiaotian had finished everything at the Spirit Hall, Su Yuntao had also written the recommendation letter and handed it to him.

"Xiaotian, I've got other matters to attend to, so I won't accompany you to Nuoding Primary Soul Master Academy. You'll have to go on your own. Here's the letter of introduction." Su Yuntao patted Wang Xiaotian's head. A child this sweet-talking and cute was quite rare.

"Mhm, I can go by myself. Thank you, Big Brother Yuntao." Wang Xiaotian bowed respectfully once again. Someday, when the chance came, he would repay this most reliable man in history.

"If anything comes up at the academy, you can come find me here. If I can help, I will do my best." Su Yuntao walked him to the door and even pointed out the location of Nuoding Academy.

"Goodbye, Big Brother Yuntao."

"Goodbye."

Watching Wang Xiaotian leave, a faint smile appeared on Su Yuntao's face. Hopefully, this poor kid would have a bright future. Now, which village was he supposed to visit next? Something like Saint… Saint what?

Years later, when Su Yuntao became a divine official in the Divine Realm and recalled the proudest moments of his life, he often said:

"The best decision I ever made in my life was that moment of kindness when I helped Lord Wang."

Nursing Primary Soul Master Academy - Principal's Office

After reading Wang Xiaotian's letter of introduction, the principal nodded and said, "Since you come recommended by Master Yuntao, admission isn't a problem. But I'll need to see your soul power and strength first."

"This is a soul power testing device. Just inject your soul power into it." The principal handed him a soul tool that looked like a crystal ball.

"Yes, Principal Grandpa." Wang Xiaotian gave the principal a warm smile as he took the crystal ball. Truth be told, Wang Xiaotian was already a handsome little guy when he smiled like that, the principal's impression of him improved greatly.

Although Wang Xiaotian hadn't cultivated much that day, thanks to the so-called "mysterious and magical" system, a few deep breaths had raised his soul power slightly now at 39/1000.

As his soul power entered the crystal ball, it immediately lit up. The light wasn't especially bright, but it was unmistakably the glow of an 11th-level soul master.

"Hmm, for a ten-year-old to reach this level not bad. Now, show me your martial soul." The principal nodded. As long as the martial soul wasn't trash, he was worth admitting.

"Okay!" Wang Xiaotian responded. A yellow soul ring slowly rose beneath his feet, and the Heavenly Flame Sword (Tianyan Sword) appeared in his hand.

"A sword-type weapon martial soul, and it doesn't look like a normal one… Good sword!" the principal exclaimed with admiration as he looked at the weapon.

Wang Xiaotian...

Principal, if we were on Earth, and you said that to me, I'd stab you where the sun doesn't shine.

"All right, from now on you are officially part of Nuoding Academy. Considering your soul power and talent, your tuition will be waived. You also don't need to work as a part-time student." The principal waved generously.

After all, this child seemed full of potential he deserved some support.

"Thank you, Principal Grandpa," Wang Xiaotian replied with a smile. There are a lot of good people in the Douluo Continent.

"Haha, what a polite kid. In a bit, I'll write you a note. Take it to the logistics office to collect your uniform, school badge, and other items. Then head to the academic affairs office they'll assign you to a class and a teacher." With that, the principal went to his desk to write the note.

"Oh, Principal Grandpa, do you know the Grandmaster?" Wang Xiaotian asked. According to the story, the Grandmaster should be friends with the principal and currently working at Nuoding Academy as a guest instructor.

"The Grandmaster? You mean Yu Xiaogang?" The principal looked up in surprise. Has his name gotten that famous already? Why didn't I know?

"Yeah, that's him. Principal Grandpa, is he at our academy?" Wang Xiaotian nodded. If he remembered right, the Grandmaster's name was Yu Xiaogang. It had been three years since he last watched Douluo Dalu, but thankfully he still remembered some names.

"Yes, he arrived a few months ago. He's now a guest lecturer at our academy." The principal nodded. He and the Grandmaster were friends, so of course he gave him due respect when he came.

"Principal Grandpa, could you tell me where the Grandmaster lives? I'd like to visit him." Wang Xiaotian decided right then to visit him. After all, there's no time like the present.

"All right, he lives at…" The principal gave Wang Xiaotian the Grandmaster's address. Although many people didn't accept the Grandmaster's theories, he was genuinely knowledgeable and it wasn't strange that he had a few young admirers.

After bidding farewell to the principal, Wang Xiaotian didn't go to the logistics office. Instead, he headed straight for the Grandmaster's quarters. Heaven and Earth may be big, but my mission is bigger.

Knock knock knock… "Grandmaster, are you in?" Wang Xiaotian knocked at the door and called out, hoping the man wasn't out.

Creaaak....the wooden door opened, and a man appeared in Wang Xiaotian's view.

He was of medium height, slightly thin. Around forty or fifty years old, with short black hair parted three-to-seven. His appearance was ordinary, his hands clasped behind his back. Yet he carried a unique air about him, and there was a hint of laziness and melancholy in his half-lidded eyes.

"Who are you? What do you want with me?" the Grandmaster asked directly and succinctly.

"Hello, Grandmaster. My name is Wang Xiaotian. I've read about your Ten Core Competencies of Martial Souls and am very interested in your theories." Wang Xiaotian knew that with someone like the Grandmaster, starting the conversation with the right topic was key.

Sure enough, after hearing Wang Xiaotian's words, a glimmer of light appeared in the Grandmaster's previously lazy and dispirited eyes.

"Oh? Didn't expect someone to be interested in my theories. Come in." The Grandmaster turned and walked into the room. He had already developed some interest in this kid and wanted to hear what else he had to say.

The Grandmaster's room was simply furnished. Aside from a bed, table, and chairs, it was filled with books. Nothing extra.

"Sit." The Grandmaster poured a glass of water and handed it to Wang Xiaotian before sitting down across from him.

"You're a student here?" the Grandmaster asked, noticing that Wang Xiaotian wasn't wearing a uniform.

"Yes, I just transferred in today." Wang Xiaotian then repeated his "tragic backstory" once more, squeezing out three more tears. However, this time, unlike the story he told Su Yuntao, he added a mysterious master who appeared and disappeared like a phantom.

In Wang Xiaotian's tale, this master had only appeared twice but had taught him and enlightened him greatly. He spoke of the master with deep respect and reverence.

That's right this was Wang Xiaotian's new tactic. By inventing a fictional, elusive master, he could kill off any idea the Grandmaster might have of taking him as a disciple.

"Ding! You told a lie. 'Silver Tongue' skill has improved (4/1000). You have gained preliminary trust from Yu Xiaogang."

"Sigh…" The Grandmaster sighed after hearing the story. "So pitiful… If you ever need anything, come find me. I'll do my best to help you."

For some reason, the Grandmaster felt a bit of sympathy for the child and subconsciously wanted to help.

"By the way, which of my theories have you heard?" the Grandmaster changed the topic. Besides distracting Wang Xiaotian from his sad story, he also wanted to see how much the kid knew.

"For example, what you said there are no useless martial souls, only soul masters who are willing to be useless. And also that the absorption of soul rings is not absolute plant-type martial souls can absorb animal-type soul beasts too." Wang Xiaotian didn't remember much, but the most famous lines he still had memorized.
