Chapter 31: Chapter 31 – Departure
I'm here! I'm here, kid!
Dugu Bo came jogging over, holding the detoxification ingredients Chen Feng had requested.
The prescription Chen Feng gave him included dozens of herbs and more than a dozen live creatures. Thankfully, Dugu Bo was a Titled Douluo. Had it been an ordinary person, gathering all of this would've taken much longer.
"Kid, that burst of power just now—was that you? I remember Ning Fengzhi mentioned you were only a Soul Elder. When did you become a Soul Ancestor? And what's the deal with your spirit rings..."
As expected, Dugu Bo began firing off questions the moment he arrived.
"Who said I was a Soul Elder? I've always been a Soul Ancestor," Chen Feng replied with a casual smile, firmly denying the former.
After all, such an absurd rate of cultivation could make anyone reconsider their trust. Who knew if Dugu Bo might have a change of heart? And if that happened, how would Chen Feng walk away with those rare herbs?
So, even though Dugu Bo seemed trustworthy so far, Chen Feng couldn't afford to be careless, especially when Dugu Bo had someone like Dugu Yan to worry about.
Dugu Bo paused for a second and scratched his head.
"Did I remember it wrong? Then what about your spirit rings?"
While sorting the medicinal ingredients, Chen Feng answered offhandedly,
"Well, I'm a genius, aren't I? Think about it—if I weren't, would the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect have made me an elder?"
That reminded Dugu Bo—this kid, who looked younger than his granddaughter, was somehow already a sect elder.
"Unbelievable…"
Even a Titled Douluo like Dugu Bo couldn't help but feel his worldview crack.
He had seen geniuses before, sure—but one like this? Never. This wasn't just talent. It was practically monstrous.
And this was only Chen Feng at his current age. What would he become in ten years?
Dugu Bo didn't dare imagine it.
For a fleeting moment, a dangerous thought flashed through his mind—should he eliminate this genius before it was too late?
But just then, Chen Feng turned his head slightly and gave him a sideways glance.
"Old poison freak, what are you thinking about?"
Dugu Bo bared his teeth in a grin, his pupils glowing a faint green in the darkness, giving him a particularly sinister look.
"Kid, I'm seriously starting to envy you. You believe I wouldn't kill a genius?"
Chen Feng scoffed,
"Old man, please. If you're gonna say that, could you at least wait until I've finished curing your poison? Otherwise, wouldn't you and your granddaughter be going down with me?"
Dugu Bo froze for a moment.
That's right. He had a point. Why didn't he think of that?
And more importantly… this brat didn't seem scared at all.
Suddenly, Dugu Bo felt a strange sense of defeat.
Then again, why should he be afraid? If Dugu Bo had the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect behind him, he wouldn't fear anyone either.
Forget the detoxification—just considering how protective Sword Douluo and Bone Douluo were, Dugu Bo did not doubt that if anything happened to Chen Feng, his own life would be forfeit. He might as well prepare for a life on the run.
Meanwhile, Chen Feng casually continued sorting through the herbs, keeping a sidelong eye on Dugu Bo.
When he saw Dugu Bo's face darken and brighten by turns, a chill crept up his spine.
This old bastard might be considering it!
That expression… he was weighing the pros and cons.
But still, Chen Feng showed no fear. Even without Sword Douluo here, he had his trump cards.
Would the God of Shura, dwelling within his body, really just stand by and let someone kill him?
Not.
Still, Chen Feng wasn't foolish enough to rely entirely on someone else. Quietly, he adjusted the prescription—adding a few extra "guiding" herbs to the mix...
In the days that followed, Chen Feng lived alongside Dugu Bo near the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well.
Every seven days, he would administer a detox regimen for Dugu Bo.
What Dugu Bo didn't realize was that the prescription—centered around Fragrant Silk Beauty and Netherworld Yellow Spring—while effective at suppressing the venom of the Bi-Phosphorus Snake Emperor, also introduced a new, more subtle toxin...
Outside of detoxification, Chen Feng's life was one of intense, monotonous cultivation.
He rose before dawn, beginning each day with spiritual training and practice of the Sword Dao Heavenly Eye.
As the sun rose, he moved on to physical conditioning.
In the afternoons, he honed his swordsmanship.
It was a grueling routine, and he didn't allow himself to use spirit power during any of it.
Each evening, he had to soak in specially brewed herbal baths to relieve the extreme muscle fatigue.
Curious, Dugu Bo once asked him,
"You're already incredibly gifted. Why push yourself this hard?"
Chen Feng answered,
"A soul master's life is defined by their martial spirit. Mine is the Seven Kill Sword. And a sword, if not constantly honed… can never stay sharp."
Dugu Bo couldn't help but think of the pampered noble brats at Heaven Dou Imperial Academy. They whined and moaned through every training session. If only they had half of Chen Feng's determination...
Why is the gap between people so enormous?
Two months passed in the blink of an eye.
By now, the deep-seated poison in Dugu Bo's body had been mostly purged.
The once eerie, cold aura surrounding him was gone. His dark green hair had given way to strands of black, his pupils no longer emitted a poisonous glow—he looked almost like a normal person again.
And after spending so much time together, Dugu Bo and Chen Feng had developed a strong rapport. They no longer bothered with formality, addressing each other by name like true friends.
"Kid, the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect isn't far from Heaven Dou City. After you return, make sure to come visit me. I haven't had many friends in my life, but after these two months, I consider you one of them."
Dugu Bo clapped Chen Feng's shoulder.
Chen Feng shrugged his hand off and replied,
"Sheesh, why get all sentimental? Besides, the sect plans to move its headquarters to Heaven Dou City in the future. If you're ever bored, just swing by."
Dugu Bo blinked.
"The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect is moving to Heaven Dou City? Why haven't I heard of this?"
Chen Feng chuckled,
"It's just a plan right now. Hasn't happened yet."
In truth, he had to convince Ning Fengzhi to make the move soon. In just a few years, Spirit Hall would launch its infamous "Hunt the Spirit Masters" campaign. If the sect didn't relocate, history would only repeat itself…
Speaking of Spirit Hall, Chen Feng's feelings toward that so-called holy land of soul masters were… complicated.
In reality, Spirit Hall had two factions:
The Worship Hall, led by Qian Daoliu,
And the Elder Hall, led by Bibi Dong.
Chen Feng believed they should be judged separately.
Most of Spirit Hall's shady dealings only began after the death of Chihiro Ji and the rise of Bibi Dong. The Worship Hall members had little to do with it.
Especially Bibi Dong... Her tragic past—likely tied to a certain man—had twisted her psychologically.
