Douluo: Qian Xunji's Joyful Life

Chapter 38: The Yu Xiaogang

An hour later, Qian Xunji's soul power had already recovered. He hadn't expended much, and the Angelic Martial Soul, having no evident weaknesses, also boasted an exceptionally rapid soul power recovery speed—easily converting the surrounding spiritual energy into angelic soul power.

"Second Uncle, if you would, please instruct me."

Qian Xunji bowed. Two yellow, two purple, four black, and one red—nine spirit rings emerged, while Golden Crocodile Douluo likewise released two yellow, two purple, four black, and one red rings.

Two hundred-thousand-year rings. This meant the Wuhun Hall alone possessed at least two hundred-thousand-year soul bones. If that rumor spread, it would cause a massive stir across the soul master world. None of the top three sects themselves had any hundred-thousand-year soul bone heritage, showing just how long it had been since anyone had killed a hundred-thousand-year beast.

"Wah—"

A deep crocodilian roar echoed as Golden Crocodile Douluo fully transformed into an enormous golden crocodile with scales as hard as armor, towering like a small mountain. Compared to the Blazing Lion, the golden crocodile was even larger by a fair margin.

Every scale was as solid as metal, especially the tail occupying two-fifths of its body length, bristling with razor-sharp protrusions. One strike from that tail could tear a man to shreds.

Qian Xunji flew up with a flap of his wings. To defeat Golden Crocodile Douluo, he planned, as before, to adopt the same kiting method he had used against the Lion Douluo—exploiting the purifying properties of his angelic power plus the Angelic Domain to gradually neutralize Golden Crocodile Douluo's soul power. If he tried to win by force, even with his ninth soul skill, it might not suffice to wound the Second Consecration.

Just as he prepared his attack, Qian Xunji's eyes contracted. Golden Crocodile Douluo had vanished from the dueling field. Behind him arose a wild, primordial breathing sound—a colossal golden crocodile stared down at him from behind with mocking interest.

"What's wrong, Your Holiness? Did my speed surprise you? Indeed, the Angelic Martial Soul is fast, but I'm four whole levels above you—that can offset the gap. Use your domain."

Qian Xunji exhaled, turning toward the giant crocodile and backing off a dozen paces. The radiant Angelic Martial Soul behind him flared with golden light.

"As you say, Second Uncle—Angelic Domain."

A golden, barrier-like field spread ten meters around him, luminous with sacred, radiant angelic power—so dense it resembled a liquid. A soul master could enter from outside, but once they did, leaving became exceedingly difficult. That liquid-like angelic energy restricted movement and seeped into the body, purifying one's soul power.

"Since you're ready, I'll make my move."

Golden Crocodile Douluo's crocodilian tail whipped forth in a flash. Its velocity eclipsed what the eye could track; each swing echoed with deafening sonic booms. Even the Angelic Domain resembled shards of glass as it was shattered piece by piece.

Before Qian Xunji could react, something slammed into his chest with a cracking noise. He spat blood, the Angelic Domain vanishing back into his martial soul. The blow flung him across the arena into a crater; unconscious, his chest visibly caved in where the tail had struck.

Beside Qian Xunji's fallen form stood a middle-aged man with long golden hair, sharing about seventy percent resemblance to him—that was Qian Daoliu.

Golden Crocodile Douluo also walked onto the dueling ground, bowing. "Big Brother, I did what you asked. If His Holiness blames me for being too rough, I hope you'll plead on my behalf."

"Don't worry. If you hadn't smacked the boy, I would have," Qian Daoliu responded calmly. Indeed, he had ordered Golden Crocodile Douluo to teach Qian Xunji a harsh lesson, both to vent his own displeasure and to ensure Qian Xunji didn't get too carried away after defeating two rank-96 Titled Douluo.

Moments later, two people arrived to carry the unconscious Qian Xunji back to the Pope's Hall for treatment.

It took half a month for Qian Xunji to recover from the injuries Golden Crocodile Douluo had inflicted. Even then, he spent another half a month looking wan and pale. Once his wounds finally healed, he hastened back into seclusion, silently vowing that one day he would make Qian Daoliu—the useless old codger who only got in his way—die of anger.

Three more years passed. Qian Xunji eventually broke through to rank 95 Titled Douluo, before turning forty-nine—eleven years sooner than his original timeline's self, and without using the Angel God Trials.

All of which affirmed why so many main characters favored creating their own forces: after all, if they dumped daily administrative tasks on others, they could devote time to training, popping up only when real danger struck, then triumph heroically. The best of both worlds.

To reach rank 96, though, Qian Xunji expected it would take at least another decade. After rank 95, soul power accumulation mattered far less than enlightenment. Given enough time for the martial soul to evolve, he might indeed need a century as Poseisi once said.

But Qian Xunji had other matters to address—like the Blue Silver Emperor. If he remembered correctly, Tang Xiao and Tang Hao had roamed the continent for two years, stumbled upon the Blue Silver Emperor, all falling for each other at first sight. Soon came a sworn siblinghood among Tang Xiao, Tang Hao, and the Blue Silver Emperor. After three more years of wandering, Tang Xiao discerned her feelings and withdrew, leaving Tang Hao and the Blue Silver Emperor to confess their love, only to run afoul of the Wuhun Hall on their way back to the Clear Sky Clan.

By now, Qian Xunji was still under fifty, so Tang Xiao, Tang Hao, and the Blue Silver Emperor should still be somewhere out on their travels. He just needed to find them. He had wanted a substitute for Bibi Dong when he'd given her to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan; the Blue Silver Emperor was that replacement. Capturing her would require planning far beyond Tang Hao's raw strength.

After dispatching men to locate the "Clear Sky Double Stars," Qian Xunji received another piece of news from a Red-Robed Bishop: a few days earlier, Yu Xiaogang of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan had tried joining the Wuhun Hall.

Because he was a direct descendant of the top three sects, and the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon master Yu Yuanzhen's own son, the Wuhun Hall gave them face—assigning Yu Xiaogang a token position as librarian in Wuhun City, effectively a trivial job.
