Douluo Dalu 3: Legend of the White Fox

Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Using Na'er for Practice

"Master, are we really not going to stop her?" Di Tian, along with Zi Ji and Bi Ji, appeared behind Gu Yue, their faces filled with helplessness.

"Keep an eye out, just make sure she doesn't die," Gu Yue replied indifferently.

"Master, isn't this a bit inappropriate?" Zi Ji asked, her brows furrowed. Both Di Tian and Bi Ji had always known that Xia Yi was different from them—Xia Yi wasn't particularly loyal to Gu Yue.

If Na'er injured Xia Yi any further, it might force him to withdraw from the Star Dou Forest altogether.

"I just want you to be careful. Don't let Na'er die inside," Gu Yue said with a faint smile. She wasn't worried about Xia Yi. She was worried about Na'er.

In fact, Gu Yue had her own ways of stopping Na'er, but after Xia Yi had beaten her so badly, she couldn't bear the thought of letting Na'er get away without at least some punishment.

"Little Master is only a two-ring soul master, and all her rings are a thousand-year age, plus the Silver Dragon Spear?" Bi Ji furrowed her brows slightly.

Gu Yue nodded. "I know, but don't forget, Di Tian's evaluation of Xia Yi—his brain is sharp."

If this had been before, even after Xia Yi defeated Tang Wulin, Gu Yue would never have thought that Xia Yi could defeat Na'er.

But after their conversation, Gu Yue truly realized that Xia Yi's "sharp brain" wasn't just talk.

"If that's the case?" Bi Ji's expression changed drastically, and she couldn't help but glance towards the inner courtyard.

"Poor little Master!" Both Bi Ji and Zi Ji said in unison, their gazes filled with sympathy.

They thought of how Gu Yue had been defeated by Xia Yi, and then of Tang Wulin's miserable state, which made them worry even more for their little master.

"Scree!" The Silver Dragon Spear pierced through the window with a sharp sound, shattering the thick glass—thick enough to withstand a direct hit from a second-level soul-guided cannon—into pieces like paper.

While Xia Yi was still devouring his meal, the moment the Silver Dragon Spear broke through the window, he slapped both palms down on the edge of the dining table. As the table flew away, he and the chair behind him were sent flying backward.

As he flew, the sharp Silver Dragon Spear grazed his chest, leaving a wound over twenty centimeters long, nearly piercing his entire torso.

Although it looked terrifying, the wound wasn't deep, merely breaking the skin. But the spear's cold and sharp aura seeped into his body, nearly freezing his blood.

Fast, too fast. Xia Yi didn't doubt that if he hadn't reacted quickly, it wouldn't have been just a skin-deep wound.

"Ha, indeed not bad," Na'er said, her eyes narrowing. Her sudden attack was so fast that even a two-ring soul master might have failed to react. Yet Xia Yi not only reacted in time but also countered.

Though surprised by Xia Yi's reflexes, Na'er didn't hesitate for a moment. The spear missed, and she immediately changed her stance, now swinging the spear like a staff, aiming it at Xia Yi who was still airborne.

Just as the Silver Dragon Spear was about to strike his already injured chest, Xia Yi leaned back, using the chair's momentum to narrowly avoid the attack.

"How many times can you dodge?" Na'er snorted. She quickly changed her strike from a horizontal swing to a vertical one, aiming directly at Xia Yi's wounded chest.

As a part of the Silver Dragon King and the current leader of the Sea God Pavilion, Na'er had both quick reflexes and mastery over the Silver Dragon Spear. No matter how Xia Yi dodged, the spear remained relentlessly on his tail, not allowing him any breathing room.

"Do you really think I'm afraid of you?" Xia Yi closed his palms, and with a sharp clap, he managed to catch the tip of the Silver Dragon Spear between his palms just before it slammed into his chest.

Na'er gripped her spear, pushing forward with all her might. Yet, the spear didn't budge an inch, leaving her shocked. She poured all her strength into the weapon, trying to force it back, but it felt as if the spear had been embedded in a solid iron mountain.

"This strength... Are you really a hundred-thousand-year transformed fox spirit beast?" Na'er's face changed drastically, realizing she was being overpowered in strength despite her superior cultivation.

Though her strength was being suppressed, Na'er didn't take Xia Yi lightly. The moment she realized Xia Yi's strength surpassed hers, her first soul ring activated with brilliant light, not giving Xia Yi a chance to exploit his power advantage.

"Even a mere hundred-thousand-year soul beast can make me use my soul skills; you should be proud," Na'er said, as her purple soul ring erupted with dazzling light. At the tip of the Silver Dragon Spear in Xia Yi's hands, a massive silver dragon head appeared, its mouth wide open, ready to bite him.

"Dammit!" Xia Yi didn't hesitate. With a flash, a fox tail appeared behind him, and he instantly entered his Martial Soul Avatar state.

In his Martial Soul Avatar, Xia Yi's strength soared. He quickly pulled one hand free, and with a speed like lightning, struck the middle of the Silver Dragon Spear, creating a loud clash. The massive force traveled through the spear and into Na'er's hands.

Na'er's hands were immediately pierced with pain, a deep crimson appearing in her palms. Only then did she realize that her grip on the spear had been shattered by the shockwave.

The overwhelming power and pain made Na'er instinctively raise her hands. The Silver Dragon Spear's tip grazed Xia Yi's head before crashing into the wall, creating a large hole.

Xia Yi broke into a cold sweat. If that dragon head had caught him, his head would have been torn off completely.

"Not bad, but still not much!" Na'er didn't stop. She swung the Silver Dragon Spear again, attacking Xia Yi with a flurry of strikes—stabs, slashes, sweeps, and jabs—each one faster and more powerful than the last.

In less than a minute, Xia Yi had over a dozen wounds, the worst of them being the one on his chest.

Strangely, though Na'er showed no mercy with each attack, Xia Yi was able to narrowly avoid fatal blows, even though he was injured. His survival seemed to defy logic.

Xia Yi was alarmed. Na'er appeared to be only around eight or nine years old, yet she was this powerful, overwhelming him to the point where he couldn't fight back at all.

More concerning, in just under a minute, Xia Yi's soul power had been completely depleted.

What Xia Yi didn't know was that Na'er was even more shocked.

Though she had a considerable cultivation advantage over Xia Yi, even with a sneak attack, she had been forced to use her soul skills first.

No, Na'er suddenly realized, although Xia Yi had been continuously suppressed and had entered his Martial Soul Avatar, he hadn't used any soul skills.

She had used only her first soul skill once, but she had also employed the spear techniques taught to her by the Sky Overlord, Yun Ming, which were on par with thousand-year soul skills.

Yet Xia Yi had endured it all without using his soul skills.

This realization made her feel a chill in her heart.

"You're using me for practice!" Na'er suddenly understood, her eyes widening in realization. She wasn't a fool—how could she not see what Xia Yi was up to?

Even though she didn't know what Xia Yi's soul skills were, they must have some use. Yet, he hadn't used them at all. Clearly, he was just using her as a sparring partner.

"I thought you had more to you. A mere Grand Soul Master can't even deal with a level ten auxiliary soul master," Xia Yi scoffed coldly. He wasn't holding back because he didn't want to use soul skills, but because if he did, he might lose even faster.
