Chapter 6: Chapter 6 First ‘Bold’ Sight At The New School
As the car drove out of the school, Zoey turned to glance behind her, just in time to catch the surprise and disappointed look on Kate's face.
It was just as she thought. This 'adorable' sister of hers did plan something.
Such an excellent timing to be craving chocolate milk.
The driver watched her from the rearview mirror for a moment before voicing out, "Ms. Smith, your sister likes to be in class at least ten minutes before it starts. That way, she can revise the topics for the next lesson."
Zoey didn't raise her head as she questioned blandly, "Am I her?"
"What? Eh… no, you're not."
"Exactly."
Hearing her curt and dismissive tone, the driver felt a flicker of irritation.
She was just the biological daughter of the Smith family, not the beloved girl they'd raised for the past eighteen years.
In the eyes of the Smith family and their staffs, she meant nothing! How dare someone who meant nothing try to be cocky with him!
Unable to voice out his annoyance, he stepped harder on the pedal, intending to startle her with the speed.
But Zoey merely leaned back, rolled down the window, and pressed her eyelids shut to enjoy the ride.
Three minutes later, the car pulled to a halt in front of the store.
She hopped off without hesitation, pretending not to notice the disdain in the driver's eyes as he watched her walk inside.
Getting to the counter, her eyes landed on the mouth watering ice-cream and she smacked her lips thoughtfully.
"On second thought, I no longer crave chocolate milk. Just give me ice cream. Vanilla flavor."
She paid and turned to leave the store only to spot a familiar figure wheeling himself in.
Noticing someone's eyes on him, Alden Leith paused and glanced around until his gaze settled on her.
The hard frown on his face slowly eased into a small smile as he watched her inch toward him.
She didn't say a word and stood in front of him, licking the ice cream provocatively.
He stared at her in genuine confusion.
"What is the purpose of this aggressiveness?"
"To provoke you."
"Why… would you aggressively licking ice-cream provoke me?"
"Because cigarettes are bad for your health, and so is ice-cream."
"No, too much of it is. It's only bad when you have too much."
"How do you know I haven't had too much already?"
"I don't."
"Then why did you take my cigarette yesterday if it's only bad when you take too much? It's not like you know if I've had one stick in the past three months."
Alden's lips twitched slightly at her pouting expression.
So she was still sulking over the cigarette. How… adorable.
"Why aren't you in class? Are you done with high school?" He promptly changed the subject.
"I would've been in my third year in college already if that woman hadn't made me retake high school." Zoey muttered tiredly under her breath, glancing at her watch.
"It says here I still have fourteen minutes to get back. But this won't be my first time being late. Nothing says 'delinquent' quite like a dramatic late entrance on your first day at a new school."
His brows lifted questioningly as he second-guessed, "You… want to be seen as a delinquent?"
Zoey shook her head in refusal.
"Seen? No. I am a delinquent. How many high school students do you see in here other than me?"
Alden stared at her, speechless.
Looking around, she bent toward his level.
"So what are you doing here? Don't tell me you came to get such a health-damaging thing as ice-cream."
"Okay, so the store's owner already has the papers ready. All you have to do is sign and the store becomes one of our subsidiaries." Sebastian's voice suddenly rang out.
From his angle, he could only see Alden.
It wasn't until he got closer that he realized Alden was talking to someone.
Both pairs of eyes shifted toward him once he walked out, Zoey's eyes immediately lighting up.
Her cheeks drew back into a wide smile as she returned her gaze to Alden.
"Wealthy Mister! Let's be good friends from now on. You may be old, but I've always liked making older friends."
"O-old? I'm just twenty-three!" Alden frowned.
Zoey regarded her 'free' ice-cream wealthy friend with a wider smile. "Anyone older than me is old. See you later, Wealthy Mister."
She bade him farewell and left the store.
Left behind, Alden wheeled himself around to face Sebastian squarely.
"…She called me old. Am I old, Sebastian?"
Sebastian sighed and walked around to his wheelchair, getting ready to push him.
"You heard her. She didn't call you old because you're old-old. She called you old because you're older than her."
"Now, we've got other places to be today, don't make us spend the whole day signing a store transfer agreement."
Alden was still not convinced, but he let it be, making a mental note to check what about him was old.
As he signed the contract, the driver dropped Zoey off at school and sped off before she would ask him to take her somewhere else.
Like she expected, the school was big on punctuality. Not even a soul was outside besides her.
Were they really so strict they didn't have a single delinquent?
How boring.
Thankfully, she had been enrolled her as a senior with Kate. So this was just for a year.
She had just taken a step forward when she caught sight of someone standing on the school's rooftop.
A smile instantly broke across her face.
Ah… a fellow delinquent.
The thought had barely formed in her head when she saw the boy step onto the railing.
